Beloved Bride: Captured by the Top Playboy

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Late

The next day, when Suxin opened her eyes and checked her phone, "Oh no, it's eight o'clock!"

She quickly sat up from bed. Normally, she woke up at seven-thirty and was out the door by eight.

She hurried to the bathroom to wash up and hastily applied some moisturizer before changing her clothes, grabbing her bag, and heading out.

By the time she got to the subway station, she was a mere two minutes late, just missing the previous train. The next one wouldn't arrive for another ten minutes.

"This is terrible; it's only my second day at work, and I'm late. What if they fire me?" Suxin worried as she considered hailing a cab, but it seemed it would be too late, especially during the morning rush when the roads were congested.

With her phone in hand, watching the time and feeling hungry, she decided to run to a nearby shop to buy some breakfast. By the time she got back, the train was just arriving.

In the nick of time, Suxin finally stepped into the subway, took a breath, then squeezed through the crowd to find a rare empty seat and sat down, stowing her bag behind her and starting on her newly bought breakfast.

After finishing her breakfast and looking at the time on her phone, she felt increasingly anxious as it edged closer to nine o'clock. Why was this train moving so slowly?

At eight fifty-five, the subway finally reached the station, and Suxin dashed out of the station like a shot.

"Miss, wait a moment!"

Suxin ran swiftly, utterly oblivious to what she might have left behind.

"Miss, your bag!"

Suxin finally reached the street; across the road was the towering building of Yuanfang International.

As the light turned green, just as Suxin was about to start running, someone suddenly grabbed her shoulder.

"Miss, your bag…" A man, panting heavily, held a black bag in front of Suxin.

"Thank... thank you…" Suxin apologized to the man, embarrassed by her own blunder for leaving her bag on the subway.

Seeing the man catching his breath made Suxin feel even more remorseful, "It's all because I was rushing to work and wasn't paying attention. Luckily, you are such a kind soul, chasing after me all this way…"

"It's not your fault; I'm just lacking in exercise. Seems I need to work out more!"

The man raised his head to face Suxin, around thirty years old, not very handsome but very sunny. Suxin found him quite easy on the eyes.

"Oh, I'm going to be late; I have to go now. What's your name? How can I contact you? I'll treat you to a meal to say thanks!"

"No need, it was just a little help. You better hurry; you're really going to be late!" The man smiled warmly.

"Alright. Thank you!" Suxin grabbed her bag and dashed across the street. She was really on the brink of being late; she had seen that it was already nine o'clock. What could be the consequences of being late at Yuanfang International?

When Suxin arrived on the twelfth floor, the entire floor was eerily quiet. Every person in the Support Department was busy with their tasks, with only a few moving around.

Crouching down, Suxin quietly sat at her desk and slid her bag into the drawer.

A "thump, thump, thump" sounded on Suxin's desk.

Suxin looked up to see a fist knocking on her desk. Looking further up, she saw a very stern face; a woman in her forties with large black-rimmed glasses and hair tightly coiled at the back of her head, embodying a very strict and old-fashioned demeanor.

"Cheng Suxin!"

Indeed! The voice was also very stern and old-fashioned.

Suxin felt today was definitely not her day. No need to ask; this was surely Support Department team leader Wen Yuhan. As Li Tian had described to her the day before, her name matched her personality—cold and harsh!

"Here!" Suxin quickly stood up, ramrod straight, as the colleagues around her all lifted their heads to look, not daring to make a sound.

"What does the first rule of the employee code at Yuanfang International say?"

"No… no being late or leaving early…" Suxin said guiltily, having spent all morning yesterday looking at the rule.

"Your memory isn't bad, but your actions are too careless!" Wen Yuhan lectured sternly, "You're a newcomer, still on probation. If you can't even understand these basic rules, I find it hard to continue employing you!"

"Team… Team Leader… I promise, I will never do it again!" Suxin had to forcefully assure him.

"Recite the employee code to me before you leave today, not missing a single line!"

"Yes!"

Wen Yuhan stared at Suxin intensely, his gaze so stern that it made Suxin feel uncomfortable all over.

"Team Wen!" A delicate, soft voice called out.

Upon seeing who it was, Wen Yuhan's stern face immediately switched to a smile, the speed of which made Suxin doubt her own eyes.

"Secretary Monica, did the director have any instructions?"

Monica's gaze swiftly passed over Suxin. "This afternoon the director is calling an impromptu meeting for all teams, please have someone prepare the meeting room. Here are the documents needed for the meeting, could you have someone make thirty copies?" Monica said, handing a stack of documents to Wen Yuhan.

"Understood, our Support Department will handle it perfectly."

"Okay, then I will be going now, I still have a ton of things to do."

"Sure, take care!"

No sooner had Wen Yuhan turned around than a wave of people converged in front of him— all were women, and Suxin was also a bit stunned. Who could tell her what was going on?

"Team Leader, let me handle it!"

"Team Leader, I'll take care of the copying!"

"Team Leader, I always organize the meeting room, let me do it!"

"I'll do it!"

"Leave it to me!"

Suxin simply couldn't understand— did people actually fight over work? Did doing more work increase their salaries? Or was this the style at Yuanfang International?

"For the meeting room, Akun, you go prepare!" Wen Yuhan didn't pick from the group of women, instead, he pointed to Akun, a man sitting at the back.

"These documents, you! You make the copies!" Wen Yuhan pointed to Suxin, handing her the stack of documents, "Remember, thirty copies! Don't make any mistakes!"

"Yes, Team Leader!" Suxin hastily took the documents, being chosen for this important task among a group of women clamoring to do the copying— could anyone tell her if this was a good thing or a bad thing?

Then, everyone else, looking dejected, headed back to their seats.

"Suxin, you're so lucky, getting to help the director with his tasks!" Li Tian returned to her seat, feeling moody.

"Lucky? What do you mean?" Suxin was completely confused.

"The director, don't you know how handsome our director is!" Li Tian immediately showed a yearning expression, her face flush with excitement at the thought of the director.

"But… whether the director is handsome or not, what does that have to do with photocopying documents?" Suxin didn't understand.

"You're really clueless, aren't you? Our director is handsome, wealthy and charming, and most importantly, he's still single!" Li Tian couldn't believe how obvious it was and yet Suxin didn't get it.

Suxin nodded as if she understood, then she headed to the photocopy room, although she still didn't really get it.
