*Axel's POV*
As we walked into the safe zone of the First Floor, Silvara gave me a rundown of the Dungeon itself.
"This is the safe zone of the first floor of the dungeon; every floor has safe zones at the beginning and at the end of each floor. That is for at least the first ten floors. After that, the floors get so big that the dungeon puts other safe zones in the middle of the lower floors. Now, for the first few floors, we will be facing off against a few different types of monsters. There will be some humanoids called goblins that the dungeon has created for us to fight. Please don't misinterpret my meaning; the goblins on the first floor and the goblin race in the real world are two different species."
"That is a lot, but I am guessing that you haven't finished yet, have you?" I asked curiously.
She smiled a brilliant smile at me.
"You are exactly right, my love. I am not done. There will also be wargs, which are kind of like wolves with scales and deformed faces. They tend to use the goblins on these floors as food. There are some other basic magical beasts and monsters that spawn in here, but I won't explain all of them."
"Well, thank you, hun, for helping me understand a bit about this place. And yes, I see you, Leah, but I will listen to your more in-depth conversation later, just the two of us, okay?"
With a small smile and a slight dusting of blush on her cheeks, she nodded and looked down slightly, feeling shy.
I smiled at her reaction while patting her head. She was stunned at first and then just leaned into it slightly.
"Ok, I will act as the main fighting force this go round in the dungeon. I will need all of you to back me up. I feel like I am missing a limb right now without Lozen and Amani here, though..."
"I know how you feel, love. I miss Greta and my Dire Wolves, but they are doing special training with Lozen's mother."
On our way back to the city, Lozen's mother popped out of the brush once again and asked to train our bestial companions in some so-called secret techniques to which we had no reason to disagree. They are supposed to be gone for a while, but hopefully not too much longer. I miss having their constant companionship.
Spending all the time with my women is one thing, but having friends close by is also a great feeling that I cherish dearly.
I shook my head to shake off my thoughts and concentrate on the here and now.
It just so happened that at this time, we seemed to step through a veil, and a large forest opened up in front of our eyes. The trees were towering, and the brush was thick. I could hear the snarls and growls of many different beasts hidden away in the thick brush.
The canopy of the deciduous and coniferous trees let streams of faux sunlight through the gaps. Birds flitted here and there in the trees. Insects of all shapes and sizes moved through the dirt and climbed the gigantic trees, going about their daily lives.
In front of us, there were three different paths that we could choose from. I looked to Leah, having felt her getting excited to give another explanation. With a smile on my face, I nodded at her, and she beamed at me in response before launching into her spiel.
"Ok, so throughout the dungeon's floors, we will come across paths like we are walking through predetermined pathways because we are. The first ten floors tend to have full ecosystems we cannot interact with because a form of magic has isolated the area around these paths to keep us from straying too far. Now, every path of the dungeon will always lead you towards the next floor, so there is no reason to worry about that. We will have to worry that the paths vary in difficulty, ranging from easy to impossible to pass. I have read that sometimes the path can even take you directly through the hidden boss area, which happens to be a goblin settlement with a Hob Goblin Shaman as the hidden boss and chief of the village. From what has been documented, only four groups have fought them, and every group had to run as fast as they could or end up dead. They still were gravely injured in the process, but I couldn't find anything other than that on the subject. From what I have gathered, the dungeon will pick your path as you start to walk on it, though, after feeling your power level."
"Wow, that was a lot. Thank you once again, Leah. I don't know what I would do without your sexy smarts." I bumped my eyebrows at her, making her giggle. The others around us smiled at our interaction.
"Hey, if you are giving out compliments, don't forget me, darling..."
I heard Mia's cute voice sound out from behind me, and just as I was about to answer her, my senses picked up on bloodlust being directed my way. Reacting on instinct, I reached out my hand in front of Silvara's face and caught the arrow headed straight for her eye.
Observing it quickly, I noticed that it was crudely shaped but could still fly true. The tip seemed to be made of some kind of obsidian-looking material and was coated in a green substance that sizzled as it dropped to the forest floor.
My eyes snapped in the direction the arrow came from, and with a flick of my wrist, I sent it back to the same spot it flew from. With a *THUNK* sound, the arrow embedded itself in the culprit who had tried to kill my lover.
A small green humanoid fell out of the brush onto the path. It had large ears and disgusting yellow teeth in its open maw. It had gangly limbs covered in crude leather armor. Its wide, yellow eyes were still filled with terror from when it had died.
I spread my senses quickly as the girls went into defensive positions in a flash of a second. I could tell that the enemies were in a semicircle in front of us.
"They are to the front but quickly moving down the sides, trying to surround us. Leah stop their advancement with thorn walls. Lauren and Laurel, I need you two to prepare your flame shields, and you will make them as strong as possible. Sil, use storm magic to force them into the open for me if you can. Leah and Mia, I need you two to distract them while I destroy them."
With a smirk, I said the last bit that made my women lovingly roll their eyes at me.
Quickly, everyone fell into their roles as I had directed. Again, I was amazed at my lover's efficiency when they all worked together.
I pulled my sword from my inventory and set myself in position to dash as the first exposed goblin. It did not take long for the first to be forced out of the underbrush from Silvara's snaking storms working their way through the underbrush with ease. It was almost as if she had a sixth sense to feel their presence.
One after another, the goblins were forced out quicker than I could chop them down.
I dashed at the first, quick enough to displace the leaves and branches of the trees and bushes, making them sway with the current of wind I had generated with my dash. I brought my sword down on the goblin before moving on to the next as fast as possible without looking back to see if it had died.
I moved quickly through the horde of goblins, chopping and slashing reaping their lives like I was harvesting wheat.
Leah and Mia were using long-range attacks to keep the goblins I hadn't reached yet at bay so I could slaughter them all in due time.
Taylor was shooting her bow at a truly astonishing speed. She was mowing down the Goblins almost as fast as I could, with up to three mana arrows flying from her string at a time.
Lauren and Laurel did a fantastic job controlling their fiery shields to protect our backline from any attack, whether aerial or terrestrial.
Finally, after about 15 minutes, we were all panting slightly, getting our breath back after slaughtering nearly 25 goblins in the group.
"This doesn't make sense. They are not supposed to group like that on the upper floors. On the first floor, we are only supposed to find at most three in a group."
The implications of what she just said were not lost on me. I thought for a moment before opening my mouth to answer. That was until Silvara jumped in at this point.
"You know what that means, Leah..."
"Yes, there are two possibilities: First, the dungeon is almost at a dungeon break period, or we are very close to the goblin village territory."
