Chapter 23: The Search

I can't help but being a little proud of myself from making something they would like this much. Since everyone was busy exploring the new stuff and playing i decided I would lean on a tree in the shade while I thought of more to add.

All of this alone is already amazing so I don't know what more I could add. More importantly I need to think up a solution for the kids. While they do have probably everything they could ever need it still doesn't feel right to basically keep them captive, even if they don't want to leave.

While I could just keep them here I need to think about the long run. After all they eventually need to leave the nest and have there own lives and careers. I certainly don't have any experience outside of cooking and there are far too many of them to all turn into cooks.

I would send them to school but I don't think they have schools for commoners here. Even if they just never get a job everyone needs a good and solid education for good mental development.

Now that I think about it, couldn't I just make my own school? Not only could I teach all the kids here but also if I made it open to the public then children outside could also learn. Considering that there are no other easily accessible schools they would all come to me.

Though that does bring up a lot of problems, like where would I put it, as I can't just up it in the same building as the bar. Also who would teach as I have absolutely no one in mind for the position and I couldn't teach that many people at once.

Then what would be taught as I don't know if magic, potion making, or swordsmanship is a normal thing to have in medieval fantasy world. Would people even want to go to school as I certainly didn't.

After thinking about it I decided that I would make a school and began right away. The first and most important thing was telling everyone that I was leaving and to not worry as I would be back later and also to not leave the store or unlock the door for anyone. Then I walked outside, hoping I wouldn't come back to a mess.

At first I was going to look at a space to build the school but then I realized that I probably have enough money to buy out every shop behind my alleyway bar especially considering this was the commoner district. With this in mind I decided that I would commence the journey by looking for some good teachers

In order to do that though I would have find some teachers in the first place. Luckily I'm not too worried about not being able to hire someone as I had made a magic survival bag that came with a lot of beef jerky, water, my patent pending disintegration gun for protection, and more importantly, enough money to buy a castle.

Unfortunately as I was walking around way out of my element I couldn't seem to find anyone who knew where a school was. So I decided to go to a place that would know, a information guild. There is no way they wouldn't know where one was.

After finally finding the guild despite the many twists and turns I had to go through I walked in hoping to get the answers I needed. As I walked in I was directed to a booth with a curtain covering up the other side. The moment I sat down on a stool I heard a man behind it say, "what do you need to know."

After the quick fright of the sudden voice I said, "Oh, could you please tell me where all the schools in this city can be found?"

There was a long pause after I asked the question and I for a second thought I could have heard a soft sigh coming from him. Honestly I wouldn't blame him as this place is supposed to handle highly secret information, not show detections. Unfortunately I couldn't for the life of me find any school so I had to come here!

Finally a sheet of paper was slid under the curtain. I picked it up and was surprised to see a heavily detailed map of the city with all the schools marked. I was very thankful for it as if he had just told me where they were or how to get there I most definitely would have gotten lost.

Then he asked for the amount of money he would need to receive for the info, which while was more than it was probably worth I happily payed for it after having wasted the man's time with such a stupid and probably easy to answer question.

After the transaction was made I quickly thanked him and got out of there before I embarrassed myself any further. I then went into my bag to get the map so I then took it ou… I forgot it, I actually forgot it, why me, why?

I then, despite the urge to just continue walking decided to go back and get. When I got the entrance the guard must've remembered me and stopped me and asked why I was going back, probably suspicious as to why I was immediately coming back.

I had to tell him why and was finally went in and as quickly as possible walked in, swiped the map and speed walked out. While the was in visible change in the guard's expressions I didn't need to be able to tell to know that he was laughing inside.

After getting far enough away I took out the map and was finally able to get a good look at the map and find out where the schools were. When I read the names of the schools it was pretty clear that most of them were mainly for the nobility or all the schools just really liked to have fancy names which is unlikely.

With all that I had went through today i decided that I would wait till tomorrow to look at schools for potential teacher as I had been running around so much looking for directions that it was going to be dark soon. I did make some good progress so I think I deserved a break.

Lucky I had better luck at finding the bar than the schools and made it home just as night was about to cover the streets. I had apparently gotten there in the nick of time as there was a group of regulars looking in apparently grieving at the loss of my delicious drinks due to the closed sign.

As I greeted them and opened the bar up I was pretty sure that I saw a tear roll down one of their faces which I find a little over dramatic. After getting them seated I quickly ran upstairs to see if all the kids were alive. Of course, they were so I than ran downstairs and began to earn my keep.

Surprisingly it didn't take long before the place reached normal capacity which I could only thank my spectacular food and drinks for. As I was going about my normal business serving people I suddenly heard a crash and someone yell, "stupid game".

As I turned around I saw that it was a muscular man surrounded by some what looked to be friends seemingly frustrated at the darts game they were playing. While I did explain the rules on a paper next to the poster darts can still be a frustrating game to try and play.

While he wasn't an actual threat to anyone I decided to amuse myself and step in and have some fun. "May I join in a game?" I said to the group. While I might not be an expert at the game my experience would certainly give me an edge over the competition. This was especially so as all the men here could seem to wrap the head around the fact the power doesn't equal accuracy.

Lucky they all said yes and took a bit of my time to play a game. The fact that I was playing the game that nobody could find except in my tavern attracted a lot of onlookers which was good as it meant that I didn't have to worry about leaving as many people wanting to be served.

Despite the fact that I didn't play the best game I could have I still surprisingly did well enough to win by a landslide. It took all of me to not get too cocky over it as I had to remember I only beat beginners. While there was a lot of clapping and yelling the same man actually started to cry in a drunken state so I decided to give free bear on the house which earn even more congratulations.

After everyone left I rounded up all the children for bed and made sure I didn't leave any in the nature room. Then I went in bed ready to search for teachers the next day.
