Being A Law God In Marvel!

Chapter 26: Bold Invitation

Inside a small inn on the outskirts of the town, Steve Trevor drank glass after glass of barley wine until his face turned bright red. His companions seated around the table exchanged helpless glances.

"Steve, what's gotten into you?" one of them finally asked.

"Congratulations, Samir," Steve said, raising his glass mockingly. "You've climbed the social ladder."

Samir slammed the table, his patience running thin.

"Yes, I climbed it—what of it? You think you can? Look at yourself! A drunk soldier chasing after someone way out of your league. What do you have to offer? She's practically a goddess, and you're a wreck! Keep drinking, Steve. Maybe you'll drown your sorrows."

The tension at the table grew thicker. The chief pressed a hand on Samir's shoulder and spoke in a low tone, "That's enough."

But Samir wasn't about to stop. "No, I need to say this. Steve, do you even remember why we're here? We're supposed to stop a gas bomb from being unleashed. Instead, you're mooning over someone who doesn't even see you. Get a grip, man!"

He spat onto the floor in disgust.

"Look at yourself. Pathetic!" Samir barked, grabbing Steve by the collar and yanking him out of his seat. "If you've got the guts to drink yourself senseless, then you've got the guts to confess to her. Go on! Do it!"

With that, he kicked Steve out the door.

Steve stumbled toward the inn's exit, but before he could leave, Charlie rushed over to pull him back inside.

"What are you doing? You can't just go out there like this!" Charlie exclaimed.

The chief stepped in, shaking his head. "Steve, if you try anything now, you'll just embarrass yourself—and us."

"Don't you get it? You'll ruin everything!" Charlie shouted, his voice almost a growl. The words seemed to cut through Steve's drunken haze, and his eyes widened in realization.

Steve shook his head, beads of sweat forming on his brow. "I—I wasn't thinking."

"Finally, some sense," Samir muttered, crossing his arms. "Listen, Steve, she's out of your league. You're here to save lives, not fall in love. Get some sleep. We've got a long day ahead of us, and the people are counting on you."

Steve clenched his fists but said nothing, glancing toward the bonfire outside where Diana and Ryuji sat together. Letting out a heavy sigh, he turned away and climbed the stairs to his room.

"You were harsh," the chief said to Samir.

"Yeah, maybe too harsh," Charlie added.

Samir shrugged. "He needed to hear it. Better to crush his illusions now than let him lose focus when it matters most."

The three men exchanged tired nods and retreated to their rooms.

Outside by the fire, Ryuji sat beside Diana, close enough for their shoulders to almost touch. The firelight cast flickering shadows on their faces as the night air grew cooler.

Diana broke the silence. "I remembered something," she said suddenly.

"What is it?" Ryuji asked.

"I saw Victor earlier—he was with a woman."

Ryuji choked on his words. "Uh…yeah, well, you know Victor."

Diana's lips curved into a teasing smile. "And Logan? You sent him to talk to me on purpose, didn't you?"

"Well…yes. I thought his experience could help you," Ryuji admitted, though her expression made him uneasy.

"I wasn't talking about his experiences," Diana said, her tone playful but edged with danger. "I meant the part about finding a partner."

Ryuji froze.

"Logan warned me to stay with my own kind," she continued, her smile growing sharper. "You wouldn't have anything to do with that, would you?"

"N-not at all!" Ryuji stammered, his face flushing. "Logan was just…sharing his perspective."

Diana tilted her head, her piercing gaze fixed on him. "And what about you? Are you like me? A long-lived kind?"

Ryuji hesitated. He'd never considered it before, but now… "Yes. My magic gives me a lifespan of at least 200 years. And as I grow stronger, so does my longevity."

Diana leaned closer, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Interesting. So, Ryuji, do you want to try what Victor and the others are doing right now?"

Ryuji's heart skipped a beat. Was she…suggesting what he thought she was? His mind raced.

This was Wonder Woman. A goddess. And she was inviting him—

His thoughts spiraled, and before he realized it, his nose started to bleed.
