Chapter 97: The Sakaar Revolt

POV Rio

A day after the battle of Gaia, Tex asked me to meet him in the command room.

Tex: "Good you are here."

Rio: "I am curious why you called for me when we are so busy with cleanup."

Tex: "As we predicted the Grandmaster has broken the agreement. He has hired numerous mercenaries and bounty hunters to assist him in throwing off our control of the planet. We have also intercepted communications between several pirate groups. They are being purchased to attack our fleet when we come to invade Sakaar."

Rio: "What about our forces on Sakaar?"

Tex: "They were able to get away before being overwhelmed."

Rio: "We won't invade right away. We aren't in a position to do so."

Tex: "I agree. I thought it prudent to update you on the situation. I would like to know when you would like for us to attack."

Rio: "March 5th. I should get Gacha results and that could give us more troops or weapons to use. In the meantime just keep monitoring the situation. We can gather our forces and crush the Grandmaster's pointless rebellion."

Tex: "Yes sir."

A Few Weeks Later...

I arrive at the planning room where we will discuss how to go about this invasion. Once I get inside I see Yularen and Tex discussing something.

Yularen: "Orbital Bombardment would decrease our losses significantly."

Tex: "It would also cause us to come under scrutiny by the other star nations. Moreover, we will lose resources the planet could offer us."

Yularen: "The planet has little resources left. Moreover, we would be destroying a group of pirates and criminals the nearby star nations will not be that upset."

Rio: "There are still civilians and slaves on the planet. If we kill them it could be used as a casus beli to take Sakaar from us. It would also give the Grandmaster the moral high ground."

Yularen: "Ah, Rio apologies I didn't hear you arrive."

Rio: "It's fine and I see you were discussing so I didn't want to intervene at first. I am curious what tactics you suggest if we can only use limited Orbital Bombardment."

Yularen: "The Grandmaster has gathered most of his forces in his capital. The capital has several laser turrets that would destroy our gunships. The planet's orbit is filled with numerous pirate fleets. Most are of Corvette class or smaller. Our ships should have no issue tearing them apart. That does depend on what forces we are allowed to use."

Rio: "No Venators, Lucrehulks, Providences, Trifighters, Clones, or other republic ships."

Yularen: "So only Droids? Hmm, if that is the case I would suggest using the B2s as our main force. The enemy number is less than 50k. The Munificnets, Dreadnought, and Halberd can easily clean up the orbit. Their shields could stand up to hours of attacks from the pirate vessels. The Vulture Droids will be sent out to assist with the clean-up of the pirates. Once Orbital supremacy has been obtained we will begin landing troops at this point. Once a camp is set up the AATs can begin destroying the enemy air defenses. Once they have been disabled we will use the Hyenas to bomb major defensive fortifications. Next, the HMPs will drop B2s directly into the city. While these B2s draw the enemy's attention the main force of B2s will be marching on the city."

Tex: "A sound strategy. It is missing one thing."

Yularen: "And what pray tell would that be?"

Tex: "We have the Spartans and UNSC vehicles we could use."

Rio: "I suggest we use the Saibamen before we send our troops to the surface. They might get killed eventually but by the time they are the Grandmaster will have lost a lot of his forces. I will knock out and evacuate all civilians on the planet before we attack. Then after all the Saibamen are killed I will use the Gate spell to transport the B2s into the city. If we do it like that then use the UNSC vehicles to support we should be able to crush this rebellion easily enough. I would also suggest using our 2 Stealth Quinjets to deploy the Spartans, BXAs, and some BXs. Alternatively, We could use the orbital drop pods to send in some of the Spartans."

Yularen: "Ah yes, sorry I am not used to working with magic and I was under the impression that the UNSC tech was still being studied. As for the Saibamen, I have little info on them."

Tex: "It is but the Hornets have been fully analyzed. The Pelicans are almost done but they won't be used in this invasion. The HEVs have also been fully understood. As for magic, I would suggest learning more about its capabilities as it can be a massive tactical advantage our empire has compared to all other forces."

Rio: "Indeed. Magic is rare among the star nations and those who can use it don't know the spells I know. As for the Saibamen, they are plant-based soldiers who are fairly strong. They don't live long and they are not that intelligent. I will give them the order to kill everything that isn't a Saibaman and let them free in the city."

Yularen: "I see. Thank you for the guidance."

Rio: "No problem. I have no doubt you will learn quickly. Now are we ready to begin the attack?"

Tex: "I believe we are. We just need to position the forces and brief our soldiers."

A Few Hours Later...

POV Grandmaster

I heard an explosion in the city and was scared that the enemy had somehow gotten into the city unnoticed. When I checked the security cameras I was confused at what I was seeing.

Grandmaster: "Are those little green men? Where did they come from."

BOOM

I look at another camera and see these little green men killing everyone they can find and despite their small size seem to be very deadly. I look at the mercenaries in the same room and shout at them.

Grandmaster: "Don't just stand there go kill those things!"

As I am watching the feeds suddenly the cameras and computers glitch and a strange song starts playing.

(AN: Play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ on YouTube. It's funny.)

Tech: "We are locked out of the system!"

Computer: "Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let down. Never gonna run around and desert you."

Grandmaster: "Shut it all down!"

They try turning the system off but nothing seems to work. Finally, someone goes to the main power distributor and turns off the power.

POV Rio

Monika: "The Rickroll has been deployed. I repeat the Rickroll has been deployed."

Rio: "Sigh. I can't believe you convinced me to let you do that. Was it at least funny?"

Monika: "It would have been more funny if they understood the joke. It succeeded in disabling their surveillance. They are fighting blind now."

Rio: "All ships you are clear to begin your attack."

I observe from a distance as 3 Munificnets, a Dreadnought, and the Halberd enter the system and begin tearing through the pirates easily. It takes only 10 minutes before the orbit is under our control. No pirates escaped thanks to my influence. After orbit is under our control I check on the Saibamen.

'Wow, the Saibamen are all injured but still fighting. At this rate, we won't even need to use the B2s.'

I updated Tex and Yularen on the current ground situation and suggested we wait. It takes another hour before the last Saibaman falls but not before they activate the final trump card of their race. Their signature move is the Yamcha killer.

POV Mercenary Captain

Captain: "Ah get this thing off of me! Wait why is it glowing?"

BOOOM

POV Carter-A259

Rio: "All Saibamen are destroyed, I am sending all B2s now."

Carter: "All right Noble Team. Our target is the Grandmaster. Don't underestimate him he is several million years old and will no doubt have some tricks up their sleeve."

Kat: "We have spliced into the surveillance we have a clear landing zone."

Emile: "Let's kill some mercs!"

Carter: "Jun I want you to be overwatch. Jorge, I want you in front clearing a path for us. Emile left flank. 6 right flank. Kat I want you to keep us up to date on the Grandmaster's movements. Especially his guards. I will cover our rear. Let's move it Spartans."

As we land we secure the area and Jun heads off to find a perch. We start moving through the palace killing any hostiles we come across along the way.

Kat: "Hold here. The Grandmaster has just sent all of his guards to protect the central control room. If we continue on this path we will be caught in a pincer."

Carter: "Any automated defenses we can activate on our side?"

Kat: "No they have removed all the automated defenses in that part of the palace."

Carter: "All right let me contact command and ask if they have any special equipment they can spare."

I talk to Rio and he says he will send something to draw the enemy fire. A Gate opens up and what comes through is something I haven't seen before. It was a creature made of fire with a dog or dragon-like head. Just being near it made me start sweating.

Emile: "If this is our reinforcements I almost feel bad for our enemies."

Carter: "I understand you will be heading to attack from the front while we strike the enemy's rear."

The creature nods.

Carter: "Good. Okay, Spartans let's move out."

We use an alternative route to get to the command center and I hear screams of terror before we even arrive. As we are about to arrive Kat shouts for us to stop.

Kat: "Stop. We need to fall back now!"

None of us hesitate and start running as fast as we can away from the command center.

BOOOOOOOOM

We make it far enough away to not get injured from the blast but I look back and I am shocked at what I see. Almost everything has been vaporized.

Carter: "What just happened?"

Kat: "The Guards were protecting the command center because it was a trap. When they lost most of their troops a massive energy build-up began. The Grandmaster made the main reactor of the palace go supercritical and it did what you are seeing now."

Noble 6: "The Grandmaster would have never killed himself. So where did he go?"

Kat: "I haven't found him yet. Most of the surveillance has been disabled or destroyed. What little is still operable is in the city."

Carter: "Jun, do you have eyes on the target?"

Jun: "Negative. However, most of the resistance in the city has been wiped out."

Carter: "He must be trying to escape. What's the fastest route to the hangar from here?"

Kat: "Working on it. I got it. I am sending it to your helmets now."

Carter: "Let's go!"

I message Yularen and tell him the Grandmaster may attempt to flee the planet via a spaceship. Once we arrive at the hangar we see it empty.

Carter: "There is nothing here. Has he escaped already?"

Kat: "Orbital forces have not detected any launches. If he isn't here he must have a fallout bunker somewhere."

Carter: "Rio do you know the Grandmaster is?"

Rio: "Yes, I can see him. He is hiding in a facility 500 meters below the palace. I suggest you vacate the palace as I am now seeing several explosives placed throughout the palace."

Carter: "Copy that we are exfiltrating now."

POV Rio

After I sent the message to Carter I thought about how I wanted to deal with the Grandmaster.

'I should just teleport and use Drain Knowledge on him. I will need to wait for Noble Team and our forces to leave the capital first as I feel he will blow up the capital before letting it fall.'

I order all forces to retreat from the capital and once everyone is away I Drain Knowledge on the Grandmaster and learn that I was right. As soon as the Grandmaster is knocked unconscious the entire capital starts self-destructing. I take what wealth is in the bunker before I leave. Once I leave I take stock of our losses. We lost 2k B2s and 1 Vulture Droid

'A small cost for what we gained. Now we just need to send all the former slaves and civilians to the Nova Empire and Sakaar can be turned into a foundry world or a trading world.'
