Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Chapter 35: Chapter 35

Sam examines his new Hunter attire in the mirror, feeling a sense of anticipation. The Batsuit, absent the iconic cape and emblem, fits him snugly, providing a familiar yet transformed appearance. Securing the utility belt around his waist, he tests the grapnel gun, watching as the line fires and retracts with a satisfying hum.

Holstering the pistol on his thighs and the assault rifle on his back, Sam draws the magic sword, its electric hum resonating through the room. Slipping the amulet over his head, he feels a surge of confidence, knowing the shield it provides could prove invaluable.

Shouldering the backpack filled with healing potions, Sam tugs the cloak's hood over his head, casting his features in shadow. He takes a deep breath, steeling himself for the journey ahead.

Sam pulls up to the towering Hunter Headquarters, its imposing facade a stark contrast to the bustling activity around it. Hunters of various ranks stride in and out, their uniforms and gear a testament to their skills.

Stepping out of his car, He adjusts his hood, ensuring his features are partially obscured. With purposeful strides, he approaches the grand entrance, his heart racing with anticipation. As he pushes open the heavy doors, the sound of voices and the clinking of equipment fills the air.

He makes his way to the front desk, where a bored-looking receptionist sits. "I'm here to pick up my Hunter's license," he states, keeping his tone even.

The receptionist looks up, her eyes widening slightly as she takes in Sam's attire.

"Name?" she asks, her fingers poised over the keyboard.

"Sam Briar," he replies, watching as she types the information into the computer.

The receptionist nods and reaches below the desk, retrieving a small, rectangular card.

"Here you go, Mr. Briar. Your license." She hands him the card. It's an E Rank Hunter license, which he quickly tucks into his pocket.

"Thank you," he says, turning to leave. Sam can't help but feel a sense of anticipation. With his license in hand, the world beyond the city walls is now open to him.

Sam checked the holographic bulletin board to see if there were any missions available. He noticed several tasks involving the elimination of goblins and wolves. Since these missions matched his danger rating and were located not far from the city, he decided to accept them. After tapping on the bulletin board to confirm his choice, he received a notification on his phone regarding the mission.

A map appeared on the screen, highlighting the location of the goblins and wolves. Sam studied the terrain, mentally preparing for the journey ahead. He secured his equipment, double-checking the ammunition and potions in his pack, then headed out.

Sam drove through multiple checkpoints, presenting his ID to the guards at each one. At the final checkpoint, the guard reviewed his credentials and, seeing no issues, opened the gate to allow him to pass.

Sam's car rolled out from the protected confines of the city walls, emerging into the open expanse beyond. The flat, grassy terrain stretched out before him, dotted with the occasional shrub or rock formation. In the distance, a lush forest came into view, its dense canopy of trees casting shadows across the landscape.

Gripping the steering wheel, Sam took a deep breath, his eyes scanning the unfamiliar environment. This was his first venture beyond the safety of the city, and a sense of both excitement and trepidation filled him.

Pushing down on the accelerator, Sam's car surged ahead as he made his way towards the forest.

Sam stops his car on the outskirts of the verdant forest. He could hear the rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds echoing through the trees. Gripping the steering wheel, he takes a deep breath, trying to quell the nervous flutter in his stomach.

Glancing down at the map on his phone, Sam locates the approximate positions of the goblins and wolves. With a steely resolve, he steps out of the car, his boots crunching on the forest floor. Securing the assault rifle on his back, he enters the lush greenery, his senses heightened and alert.

The forest is alive with the sounds of nature - the chirping of crickets, the rustling of undergrowth, and the occasional snap of a twig underfoot. Sam's heart pounds in his chest as he navigates the winding paths, his eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement.

Suddenly, a loud, guttural screech pierces the air, and Sam instinctively reaches for his weapon, his finger poised on the trigger.

Sam saw it was just a fox. The small, russet-colored creature hurriedly scampered away, and Sam relaxed a little, his grip loosening on his assault rifle.

He then hears a group of high-pitched giggles mixed with low-pitched growls nearby. Cautiously, Sam moves towards the sound, his footsteps light and his senses on high alert. Peering through the dense foliage, he spots a group of Goblins.

The Goblins are small, standing no taller than a meter, with hunched, wiry frames. Their skin is a sickly, greenish-gray hue, and their features are twisted and distorted. Their large, bulbous heads are disproportionate to their spindly limbs, and their eyes are sunken and beady, glinting with a malicious gleam.

The Goblins are armed with an assortment of crude weapons - some carry sticks sharpened to a point, while others wield rusted, serrated knives. Their movements are jerky and unpredictable, as they cackle and chatter amongst themselves in a guttural, unintelligible language.

Sam tightens his grip on his rifle, his finger poised on the trigger as he observes the Goblins' activity. He knows he needs to be cautious, as these creatures are known to be cunning and dangerous, despite their small stature.

Sam aims his rifle at the Goblins and squeezes the trigger. The sharp cracks of gunfire pierce the air as his bullets find their marks, felling several of the creatures in quick succession. The remaining Goblins, alerted to his presence, let out a chorus of shrill screeches and begin to charge towards him, their crude weapons raised.

Thinking quickly, Sam switches tactics, reaching into his utility belt and retrieving a handful of sharp batarangs. With practiced precision, he launches the projectiles at the Goblins taking cover, the blades embedding themselves in their skulls with sickening thuds. The Goblins let out agonized howls as they crumple to the ground, their lifeless bodies twitching.

The charging Goblins, undeterred, continue their assault, their gnarled claws swiping at Sam. He deftly sidesteps their attacks, his enhanced reflexes allowing him to evade their strikes. Squeezing the trigger again, he cuts down the remaining Goblins, their bodies collapsing in heaps at his feet.

Surveying the aftermath, Sam's expression remains stoic, his grip on the rifle unwavering. He knows this is just the beginning of his journey as a Hunter, and he steels himself for the challenges that lie ahead.
