Chapter 83: License Plate Number

"Thanks a lot for today." Chen Yiyang thanked Aniu while slipping a piece of jade material, specially reserved earlier to make a landscape pendant, into Aniu's pocket.

"You're being overly polite." Aniu saw Chen Yiyang's action and immediately tried to return the item.

However, Chen Yiyang quickly stopped him.

After leaving Aniu, Chen Yiyang checked his phone.

Maybe it was because of his presence in Jin City this morning.

Today's push notification delivered a tip about purchasing a batch of cotton raw materials at a low price from a material trading market in Jin City.

If resold, he could earn over ten thousand yuan.

Just ten thousand.

Having just earned more than three million, Chen Yiyang decided to spend the ten thousand yuan on a leisure day for himself.

He planned to return to West Capital in the evening.

As for the daytime.

He called Natasha, a Russian gal, to enjoy a day of playing war games simulating Germany versus the Soviet Union in World War II.

However, by the afternoon.

After Natasha, representing the Soviet Union, had lost two rounds in a row, Chen Yiyang received a call from his accountant.

"Boss, there's a problem. The fire inspectors just came by and said our hotel's fire safety isn't up to standard. We might be fined and required to rectify by a deadline."

"Alright, I understand. Before I return, just let them inspect as they need to and cooperate actively."

"Understood." The accountant, after saying so, curiously asked Chen Yiyang, "The hotel has been open for years, and most of the fire equipment was replaced last year. Why is it suddenly failing inspection?"

"Because it was never up to standard in the first place," Chen Yiyang replied casually, "If strictly by regulations, there probably aren't many places in West Capital City that would pass fire inspections. But don't worry, just stay put at the hotel.

If anyone asks where I am, just tell them I'm not returning to West Capital City until tonight."

"Got it, boss." The accountant agreed decisively.

"My busy life." Chen Yiyang sighed, pushing away the enthusiastic yet repeatedly defeated Natasha.

He stood up and got dressed.

First, he called Zhou Jianjun, asking him to find two drivers to drive his Red Flag car back to West Capital City.

He then bought a business class ticket on the high-speed train, comfortably heading back to West Capital.

Not long after Chen Yiyang returned to West Capital, he received another call from the accountant.

The accountant informed Chen Yiyang that Zhao Cheng had just come by the hotel looking for him, but was told he hadn't returned to West Capital yet.

Chen Yiyang thought for a moment, then dialed Zhao Cheng's number from a nearby café.

"Brother." Zhao Cheng's voice was still as enthusiastic as ever.

"I heard from my secretary that you went to the hotel looking for me."

"Yeah." Zhao Cheng said, "I heard from a friend that your hotel was undergoing a fire safety check, so I went there to see if I could help."

"Thank you." Chen Yiyang expressed his gratitude to Zhao Cheng in a plain tone.

"Recently, there have been stricter checks due to new directives, and you were really careless, brother."

"I only just took over the hotel and haven't even sorted out the accounts yet. How could I anticipate fire safety issues?"

"I'll tell you what, I know someone in the fire department. I'll invite him over tonight to discuss and see what's up with your hotel. Want to come over and hear for yourself?"

"Alright." Chen Yiyang nodded in agreement.

Even though Zhao Cheng remained enthusiastic after making the call, Chen Yiyang's responses remained indifferent.

So after discussing the main issue, Zhao Cheng ended the call without further small talk.

Chen Yiyang remained at the café until the two hired drivers brought his Red Flag car nearby, only then did he leave, driving to the location Zhao Cheng mentioned.

Zhao Cheng had directed Chen Yiyang to a private club.

This club was built within a park.

Chen Yiyang drove straight to the club's parking lot, then got out to ask a server for the room number and walked over.

"Brother, you're here." As soon as Chen Yiyang entered, Zhao Cheng warmly greeted him, introducing him to another person in the room.

"This is Captain Zhao from the fire department."

"Captain Zhao, hello." Chen Yiyang greeted the other person politely.

After the three of them sat down, they exchanged a few casual words, probing each other slightly.

"I didn't realize you're one of Jin City's Top Ten Outstanding Youths; I underestimated you," Zhao Cheng said, upon learning that Chen Yiyang held such a title, immediately raising his glass for a toast.

Zhao Cheng, though speaking highly, showed no real change in his actions.

A Top Ten Youth from Jin City doesn't mean much in West Capital City.

"Considering you're a renowned youth, how could you be so careless on a crucial issue like fire safety?"

At this moment, Captain Zhao spoke.

He sternly told Chen Yiyang, "During our inspection, we found that some of the fire extinguishers had unclear labels and hadn't been cleaned. The emergency lights and evacuation signs were also a bit dirty. These issues may seem minor, but if an incident occurs, they could lead to severe consequences."

"Yes, yes, yes, I'll have the staff clean every day from now on." Chen Yiyang didn't bother finding an excuse about the hotel being unused for a long time. It's normal for certain places to be dirty.

"Speaking of staff, your employees' fire safety training is also somewhat inadequate."

"Which employee?" Chen Yiyang was a bit confused.

There's only one attendant at the hotel right now.

"The girl who's managing the hotel now. I asked her how to quickly evacuate people in case of an emergency, and she couldn't answer."

Turns out they were talking about the junior accountant.

Chen Yiyang thought to himself, when he gets back, he'll give the junior accountant a hard time, dock her pay, and see if she'll still demand overtime pay for bringing him fruit.

"Is that all?" Chen Yiyang was surprised when Officer Zhao didn't continue.

For just these minor issues, a fine should be all there is to it, right?

After hearing Chen Yiyang's words, Officer Zhao didn't respond immediately. Instead, he turned to look at Zhao Cheng.

Only after Zhao Cheng nodded did Officer Zhao continue, "Additionally, there's an issue with your hotel's fire system wiring, which might need major renovations."

"What kind of major renovations exactly?" Chen Yiyang asked.

"I can't tell you everything clearly now. We'll need to study the hotel's structure thoroughly before we can offer a complete set of renovation recommendations.

But one thing is certain: the hotel cannot open until the renovations are complete."

"Alright. I understand." Chen Yiyang nodded decisively to indicate his understanding and then said no more, focusing instead on devouring the food on the table.

After driving half a day yesterday, and having two rounds with the Russian girl this afternoon.

He really wanted to eat more to replenish himself.

Officer Zhao and Zhao Cheng saw Chen Yiyang's behavior and felt as if they'd punched a pillow.

But since Chen Yiyang wouldn't respond to them, they couldn't just lay things bare, right?

Zhao Cheng subtly hinted multiple times that if Chen Yiyang found the fire system renovations to be too lengthy, financially unbearable, he could sell the hotel to him cheaply.

However, Chen Yiyang never took the bait.

And so, the three of them found themselves in an awkward atmosphere.

Like three friends having a weekend meal, each absorbed in their phones, eating, without exchanging a word with one another.

After they were full, Chen Yiyang put down his chopsticks.

Zhao Cheng called in the waiter to settle the bill.

"A total of three thousand six hundred and eighty, who will be paying?" the waiter asked.

Officer Zhao and Zhao Cheng both looked towards Chen Yiyang.

Chen Yiyang was sitting in his chair, pretending not to have heard the waiter's words as he scrolled through his phone.

After a few minutes of stalemate, Zhao Cheng, looking quite displeased, pulled out his phone to pay the bill.

Then all three of them walked outside together.

"I've been drinking, did you drive? Could you give me a lift?" Zhao Cheng looked at Chen Yiyang.

He still wasn't ready to give up and thought about talking to Chen Yiyang further about selling the hotel during the drive.

"No problem, my car is parked just ahead." Chen Yiyang pointed to his Hongqi car in the yard.

"A young person driving a Hongqi." Officer Zhao approached with interest to see Chen Yiyang's car.

Then as he observed, he noticed the license plate.

"This car is yours?" Officer Zhao abruptly looked up to ask Chen Yiyang.

"It belongs to a senior of mine. I'm just borrowing it for now." Chen Yiyang replied.

After Chen Yiyang finished speaking, seeing that Officer Zhao was at a loss for words, he took the initiative to say to Zhao Cheng, "The senior's surname is Yu."

"Yeah, yeah, I couldn't forget Mr. Yu's license plate if I tried." Officer Zhao gave a couple awkward laughs, then approached Chen Yiyang, whispering.

"Friend, I think I mentioned the issues with your hotel's fire safety in error. I'll talk to them again, your hotel's issues should be just some unclear signage — just needs a wipe."

"Sure, sure, sure, thank you Officer Zhao." Chen Yiyang expressed his gratitude and then looked over to Zhao Cheng.

"My route is different from yours, I'll just take a cab home." Zhao Cheng also decisively left.

Clearly, he was also aware of Mr. Yu's identity.

Since Chen Yiyang was driving Mr. Yu's car, he definitely wouldn't dare bring up selling the hotel again.

Thus, Chen Yiyang was left alone driving back to his apartment.

After returning to his apartment, he called Liu Yiyi, trying once more to recruit her to manage the hotel.

"I heard the hotel had a fire safety inspection today. Will it still be able to operate normally after?" Liu Yiyi asked, somewhat suggestively.

"There shouldn't be any issues for now. I had dinner with an Officer Zhao tonight. He suggested that the hotel's fire safety issues are just about unclear signage, just needs a wipe."

"Impressive." Liu Yiyi sincerely exclaimed, then continued, "If I had your impressive background, I wouldn't have to be so cautious."

"I was just lucky. How about this, if you come work at the hotel, I'll give you a bit of stock."

"No need, I'll just take the dividends." Liu Yiyi rejected Chen Yiyang's proposal.
