Becoming an Accidental God in a New World

Chapter 93: Ch 93- Greet the Neighbour- Part 1

[Thank you for shopping with the system. Your remaining faith points: 99]

I looked at the wide spread of modern food in front of me. For about 1 faith point, I had gotten enough food to feed a professional team for a few days.

'Did I buy too much? But refusing this food does not feel right. Especially when I have already paid for it.'

The problem with using faith points to buy food was that the system just gave out too much food at once, which was impossible for a single person to finish.

But was I going to say no to the extra food and not take it? No way-!

So the situation ended up like it did— with a lot more food on my table than I anticipated. I was going to preserve what would not spoil and give the rest away.

Surely the fairies in my back garden would appreciate this feast?

"Nyx, Erebus, it's time for dinner."

I told the two kids who had just left their room. They had not even tried to explore the shop yet.

Their demeanour felt too timid, like they did not want to walk around and startle me or someone else. But in my opinion, these kids did not need to act like this.

Not that I was going to be the one to tell them this. These kids needed to make up their minds and start exploring on their own.

They came out when I called for them and sat down at the table quietly as well. Their eyes widened as they saw the spread of food around the table, but they chose not to speak.

"You can have whatever you want from here. I accidentally bought too much food, so we can enjoy. But make sure not to make yourself sick either."

I told the kids, and they blinked for a few seconds before they dug in. I also sat down to eat, and Fenrir had not even waited for us to start before he dove in.

"Master, this is good. What is this? I have never tasted flavours like these before!"

Fenrir asked as he devoured plate after plate. He was so fast that I even doubted he was chewing the food.

"Slow down a little. The food is not running away anywhere."

I told Fenrir as I tried to slow down his eating. But that proved to be of no use because Fenrir did not listen to me.

Fenrir, along with the kids, finished the first serving in record time and then the second.

Finally, I had to put my foot down before they all ended up with a stomachache.

"Alright, that's enough. Let's clean up this place and then start our business. You both will be assisting me around the shop, but you don't have to talk to anyone you don't want to."

I told the kids, and they looked nervous—and for good reasons as well.

Cleaning took some time because I needed to teach the kids how to handle the books and other stuff. But once they got the hang of it, things were easy.

Between the three of us (Fenrir was useless), we got the most important things cleaned up, and then it was time for the business to open.

Of course, the first one to step in was Madam Shelly. She came by not even ten minutes after I opened the shop, and she looked excited.

"Oh my—! You are back, shopkeeper? I was worried that you had gotten lost or something. It's nice to see that it's not the case."

The female told me as she forced her way in. Her sharp eyes quickly looked around the shop before they landed on the kids.

I immediately positioned myself in front of the kids so that the female wouldn't look at them too much. Unfortunately for me, Shelly was not an easy opponent to go against, and she seemed unwilling to let a topic drop.

"Oh my—! Who are these darlings, shopkeeper? Have you been keeping a big secret from the world? Care to share with me?"

Shelly asked with a smile on her face. Her enthusiasm was overwhelming for even me, never mind the kids.

What was even worse? Miss Shelly seemed to know that, but she did not care to hold herself back.

If she was going to be shameless, then I had no reason to hold back either. I stepped forward and blocked the kids from her sight even more.

"Miss Shelly, you are scaring the kids now. I think you are getting a little over-excited here."

I told the woman, only for her to raise her eyebrows at me before pretending to back off.

"Oh, do forgive me. I guess I just got a little too excited. You know how I get when I get excited. There has just been too much going on for the past few days."

The woman told me with a smile on her face.

Suddenly, I no longer wanted to hear what she had to say. But I also felt curious, so I allowed her to speak.

Shelly took my silence as her sign to continue talking.

"Well first, you know the dome of Goddess Helia, right? Something big happened there. Rumors say that it got taken over by a follower of another god, and Goddess Helia interfered herself. It's exciting to hear, right? And also… that there was a prophecy… oh—! I want to hear more about this."

Shelly was beginning to sound more and more excited by the second. A part of me suddenly felt like it would be better for the kids not to hear this conversation that was going to take place.

"One minute. Kids, you should return to your room and take Fenrir with you as well. He's also dirty, so give him a bath for me."

I told the twins, and they looked at me for a whole minute before they went to grab Fenrir.

The dire wolf pup did not like that. In fact, he hated it enough to try and claw his way out.

"Master, no wait—! I don't want to take a bath—! Master…."

The pup cried, but there was no one to hear him speak. I also ignored his cries in order to pay attention to Miss Shelly and her news.

"So, what were you saying about the dome and such?"

I asked, and she blinked before snapping out of her daze. Her eyes shined as she told me the exciting news she brought me.

"Ah—! About that… listen to me, shopkeeper, it's such big news. You know the prophecy, right? The one that everyone knows but pretends not to know about Goddess Helia's savior? Apparently, something went wrong, so the soul split. However, she interfered directly to rectify that mistake… and you already seem to know all about it."

I tried to control my expression, but somehow, Shelly still managed to guess what I was thinking.

She looked almost disappointed as she gave me a sour look.

"Well, that sure feels disappointing. I guess I got ahead of myself for nothing here. Anyway, I should finish what I was telling you."

I forced myself to calm down. I did not want Shelly to think that I knew too much here.

"Anyway… regarding the situation… things are definitely tense right now, and people are debating whether the dome is going to survive or not. There are also rumors that the owner of the other two souls has gone missing. Oh—! And also, Duchess Isabella was seen on the site with her 'mysterious helper.'"

I felt my soul leave my body at those words. The situation was getting too complicated for me.

But still, I had to make sure people did not know about me.

"About the Duchess's mysterious helper…? Does anyone know who it was?"

I asked, and Shelly suddenly looked frustrated.

"Ugh, don't remind me about it. I was so excited when I got the news about it as well, only for me to get nothing. According to witnesses, the goddess protected the identity of her messenger."

Shelly told me, and I felt my heart calm down all of a sudden. It was going to be fine now… as long as my identity remained a secret.

"Anyway, that's secondary. The main reason I came to meet you was because I wanted to ask if you saw our new neighbour. How long have you been back for?"

Shelly asked too quickly, and I blinked to try and keep up with her.

"Ugh… what?"

I asked, and she sighed and shook her head, almost as if she was dealing with a kid.

"We got a new neighbour yesterday. But from your clueless look, I can tell that you have no idea. You better pay them a visit with a gift in hand. Who knows, it might come in handy."

She told me before she left to browse the shop. I truly did not understand Shelly and her desire to gossip. What did she want exactly?
