Chapter 101: Ch 101- Guests- Part 2
In another part of the town, Reeze Spencer, the white witch, blasted away another man who came after her. Recently, the amount of supernatural creatures in the town was increasing, and it was getting exhausting to keep them away.
She had tried her best to keep the white witches out of it and remain neutral, but it had not helped.
Especially against those who had already lost their reason.
"Leader, we also cleared out the west side. But the east side is overwhelming us. The black witches are sending their enemies toward us as well."
Her second-in-command yelled as she pushed away another monster.
Reeze flinched as she watched this happen. Everyone was working harder and harder as this fight dragged on.
It was all because of the grove and its lost item. Now that the news of its disappearance was out, everyone was trying their best to find it and gain an advantage.
Reeze was no different. She had managed to track the item down to this town as well but had lost track of it halfway.
She was sure the others were the same, and it was because of the shopkeeper and his aura.
But unlike others, she was not going to interfere if the shopkeeper was involved. She did not want to make an enemy out of that man.
"Leader, some of these monsters managed to get past the barrier. What should we do about that?"
Reeze's eyes narrowed as she considered what to do. But in the end, she decided not to break her formation. She could not betray the white witches like that.
"Don't worry about it. The city guards will take care of the situation. It is out of our hands now."
She declared, and the other white witches nodded at her words. They decided to pull back as well.
As for what was about to happen? Reeze was not as worried as she should have been. Mainly because she believed in the shopkeeper and was sure that he would be able to take care of the situation one way or another.
__________
Sneeze
"Is someone talking about me? Somehow, I do not have a good feeling about that."
A shiver passed down my spine as soon as I sneezed. A part of me told me that I was in danger. But I ignored it and decided to finish what I was doing.
The pot in front of me threatened to boil over, and I quickly caught it before continuing with my preparation work.
The only reason I had to spend extra time in the kitchen was because I had two uninvited guests over.
"Hey shopkeeper, is this right?"
Leo asked as he showed me the vegetables he had cut. They were all uneven, but at least that was a start.
"Yeah, that is fine. You can peel off the next one."
I told him as he went back to work. His sister, Luna, watched from outside with a pout on her face. But after a near disaster with my kitchen and water of all things, I was not about to take any chances.
As for what was happening? It was simple.
Ever since that visit from Leo and Luna where I served them snacks, they had started to drop by. Not wanting them to go home empty-handed without eating, I had started to cook a little extra for them.
And before I knew it, they had become a permanent fixture around food times. Even the kids had come around and stopped questioning why the strangers were here during food time.
The only one who complained was Fenrir, and that was also because it meant he got less food… or something.
Leo paused while slicing the vegetables in front of him for the second time, and I almost yelled at him because he did not follow instructions.
My face must have shown my unhappiness because Leo flinched before he looked down at the food he had started to prepare.
"Shopkeeper, I can explain… I started to cut the vegetables because I was done peeling them… and I will follow instructions next time."
Leo quickly backed down once he realized that he had been going overboard.
I sighed and went back to cooking. Finally, the food finished, and we sat down to eat. No one talked much during eating time, and once we were done, Leo once again helped me with the dishes.
Luna did not even seem concerned that she had to help or anything as she kept playing with the kids. Not that I blamed her.
"Your sister is rather carefree, right? At least she seems to be having fun."
I told Leo, and he grunted.
"She is a little… too free-spirited. I worry about what would happen to her once I am gone."
Leo told me as he looked at Luna. His eyes held a deep sadness, as if he knew that they could not stay together.
I had a sudden realization that Leo might be dying or something, but he did not want to tell Luna or have her worry.
He looked at me, almost as if he wanted me to offer him a helping hand… which I could not do.
'But I am in no condition of helping other people. I have too much on my hands at the moment.'
I sighed and looked at Leo.
"You should eat good food and better take care of yourself if you want to be around your sister for a long time. Don't give up too easily. There is always a way out."
I told Leo, and he nodded.
It did not seem as if he believed me or even wanted to talk more about it. But he was at least willing to listen to me and not demand too much from me, which was a win in my book.
The pair quickly left my store to head back to their own house, and I finally went to sleep.
And then a huge explosion woke me up right in the middle of the night.
