Chapter 47: Louis Dies
No no no no no!
Joshua realized Sylus's path, and despair inevitably appeared in his eyes.
Impossible, Sylus couldn't possibly do this. Sylus was nothing more than a servant of the Aurellan family, a pawn Athena could arrange however she pleased—how could he dare treat him like this?!
Sister Athena, Sister Athena! Where are you? You should come back and punish Sylus. Sister Athena, save me, save me!
Joshua was screaming frantically in his heart, but on the surface, only a few desperate, powerless sounds came out.
At that moment, Sylus dragged Joshua in front of Leo's cage.
More than a meter tall and over two meters long, the lion was pacing furiously inside, occasionally slamming its massive claws against the iron bars.
Its lower body was exposed—it was in heat. Yet its master enjoyed nothing more than watching it suffer, only occasionally throwing in enslaved people who had displeased him.
But without a lioness, enduring the heat was truly tormenting.
When it saw Sylus approach, the lion suppressed its frenzy, tail drooping as if in fear.
Sylus didn't hesitate for a moment—he threw Joshua into the cage!
Joshua hit the ground hard, surrounded by the stench of the lion's heat and the reek of blood.
He screamed in pain, then quickly crawled toward the bars, shouting:
"No, Sylus, you can't do this! I am the heir of the Aurellan family, the overlord of Zone 5, second only to Athena in status! You can't do this! The Aurellan family will definitely kill you, Sylus!"
Joshua roared like a madman, but in just a blink, Sylus had vanished from sight—while the lion's breath drew ever closer.
Joshua's face turned deathly pale as he looked back. Leo knew well: anything thrown into the cage was a toy and food.
Faced with the beast's gaze, Joshua seemed to realize what would happen. His face twisted with terror, his head shaking frantically. So this… this was what it felt like to be thrown into Leo's cage?
But no—this was supposed to be the fate of slaves, of Louis. He was a noble, a noble! Why should he have to face this?!
Joshua was so terrified he pissed himself, scrambling backward without end—yet Leo had already pounced!
"No!"
The scream echoed through the entire mansion, quickly drowned out by the beast's growl and the door slamming.
Sylus thought of Joshua's words—Louis surely wasn't dead yet. Perhaps he had found the map leading to the underground basement!
Yes, that thought was like a curse, instantly planting hope in Sylus's mind.
"BOOM! CRASH!"
At that moment, the ground suddenly shook violently, as if a massive earthquake had arrived without warning. The mansion trembled fiercely, then collapsed at once, the earth splitting open with jagged cracks as though it was about to tear apart completely.
Sylus reacted quickly. Even though his head throbbed so painfully and hazily that he could barely see anything ahead, he still managed to escape the mansion in time.
The quake struck without warning, powerful enough to bring down the entire Aurellan estate. The rumbling continued endlessly, mingled with human screams of fear that sounded so small, so insignificant.
Dodging falling rubble and massive slabs of concrete, Sylus could feel the source of this terrifying energy coming from beneath the Aurellan estate itself.
His hands trembled uncontrollably, his head ached even more, and his lips muttered: "Louis..."
No… he wouldn't be in the underground basement, would he? No… no, he wouldn't…
Suddenly, a massive chunk of earth crashed down toward him. Sylus didn't even notice—he stood still, letting the debris crush his body. His eyes didn't blink once, devoid of focus, as if he were already dead.
It took more than ten minutes before the quake finally ceased. By then, the entire Aurellan estate had collapsed. Cracks in the ground extended beyond the estate's borders. Civilians outside had been evacuated as quickly as possible by the police.
Not a single person emerged from within the Aurellan grounds after the quake. Perhaps some were still trapped inside, but the rescue teams could only wait—the observation team had to assess the situation first.
The disaster had struck without warning, an unprecedented calamity in this era. There could be aftershocks—they could not act rashly!
At that moment, a shadow suddenly appeared in the sky, flying swiftly toward the ruins of the Aurellan mansion.
The crowd below erupted into commotion.
Sylus sensed the light above him being blocked, the shadow growing larger and larger.
He widened his eyes, realizing it was a giant swallow descending from the sky.
On top of the flying vessel, faint silhouettes stood. The strong wind could only whip at their hair and clothes, unable to shake their bodies.
Aboli tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Her white goddess dress fluttered wildly in the wind, the slit running up to her thigh revealing smooth, pale skin. One hand rested lightly on her chest, and she smiled faintly:
"Louis, you've really outdone yourself. You're always like this—always chasing death."
Luna and Lucas stood on either side of Aboli, their faces tense with worry as they looked down at the quake's aftermath.
Luna almost screamed: "Louis! Where? Where is Louis?!"
"Before I punish him, he is not allowed to die!" Lucas shouted.
Luna's face turned cold as she glared at Aboli: "You said Louis would live!"
Lucas also widened his eyes at her, as if demanding an answer.
Aboli didn't even spare them a glance. Her voice was calm: "What a pity. He's probably already dead."
As she lowered her gaze, a single tear slid down her face, as though she were deeply mourning Louis:
"His actions were so entertaining. Finding such an intriguing soul in this rotten, tedious era is rare. But sadly, he chose to make such a foolish decision. Mutual destruction. How utterly contemptible."
Tears welled up in Luna's eyes almost instantly. She broke down, sobbing, gripping Lucas's hand tightly:
"No… no, Louis can't be dead. He was supposed to return to me. It was always meant to be that way…"
Lucas's eyes turned hostile as he looked at Aboli:
"You said you'd give Louis to us if we followed you. Even if he's dead—I want his body!"
At those words, Aboli tilted her head toward Lucas, her lips suddenly curling into a smile:
"Louis's body, hmm? I'll find it for you…"
She raised her hand, and with her words, the ground below—the area of Athena's mansion—suddenly split apart, severed into a perfect square. The deafening sound of earth being ripped apart echoed without end.
Aboli narrowed her eyes:
"Of course, it will still belong to me."
She could revive Louis—conveniently rewrite his memories. A gentle soul like Louis deserved nothing less than to become her servant. Louis, our bright future awaits us.
Her outstretched hand lifted higher, and with it, the earth seemed to be pulled by an unimaginable force. The land surged into the sky before crashing down again—and everything was inverted!
Athena's ruined mansion sank deep underground, while the hidden experimental basement was revealed before everyone's eyes!
Luna and Lucas's eyes went wide. Without hesitation, they dove down.
Through rubble and twisted wreckage, they clawed their way forward. Finally, they caught sight of a charred, blackened hand jutting out from beneath the metal.
Luna's eyes widened in horror as she lunged forward, frantically digging.
Louis. Louis—it really was Louis.
But now his body was crushed and deformed, his bones shattered, his blood soaking into the ground. His stomach had been ripped open, intestines spilling out.
His once-beautiful face was drenched in blood and marred by wounds from the steel and debris of the laboratory that had buried him.
"Louis…" Luna whispered. Her trembling hand gently lifted, softly wiping the blood from Louis's face.
But it wouldn't go away. It wouldn't stop. Why? Why?!
Of course—this was their mistake. They should have taken Louis with them the moment they found him, instead of trusting Aboli. It was Aboli who had killed Louis!
