Chapter 43: The Gun Muzzle Decides
Eslite had already fallen flat on his back in terror, his body stained with fresh blood—not his own, but that of his companions.
Athena had truly slaughtered all the elders. How could she dare!?
But questioning such things now was meaningless, because Athena had done it without the slightest trace of fear.
Only now did Eslite's stubborn, old-fashioned mind begin to grasp the truth: the previous heads of the family had needed the elders because they lacked enough intelligence, enough strength. But Athena was utterly different. She had the power and intellect—and they were nothing but paper tigers. Before Athena, they were no more than dust!
Just as she had eliminated Sylus, she would destroy them all!
"No… please, Athena, give me one more chance…" Eslite dropped to his knees, begging her.
But Athena's footsteps did not falter. She seemed to be killing in a frenzy now, the bright smile on her face never fading, as though she were savoring Eslite's terrified, pitiful state.
She raised her hand, and Eslite knew all hope was gone. Driven nearly mad by fear, he roared in despair:
"Do you think you can rule unchecked forever!? Joshua has wit, he has schemes—wait, you'll be struck down!"
Athena paused for a moment at those words.
She tilted her head, her face returning to its usual gentle calm—but her blood-soaked body left no trace of gentleness behind.
She looked at Eslite with a pitiful gaze.
Eslite seemed to realize something, but before he could shout again, his head had already flown, rolling across the floor—his face still frozen in shock and disbelief.
Athena flicked her hand, the tip of her mechanical fingers pointing downward. The blood clinging to their sharp edges dripped onto the ground, leaving small holes where it fell.
Clack, clack, clack…
In an instant, her mechanical hand shifted back to its standard form.
She pulled a handkerchief from the pocket by her chest, gently wiping the blood from her face, murmuring:
"A bunch of little mice… but it's fine. Even dogs know how to catch mice."
Meanwhile, in Athena's office, Louis finally cracked the third layer of encryption!
Creak…
The safe door swung open, revealing a large stack of documents. Louis couldn't help but frown. Surely, files like these must have electronic backups—so where did Joshua get the confidence that merely seizing these papers would let him take control of the Aurellan family?
Clearly, those old fools had poisoned his mind with their nonsense.
Just then, Louis froze. A massive shadow loomed behind him, so tall it blotted out every trace of light.
Louis widened his eyes and rolled to the right with his fastest reflexes. He didn't stop there—springing back up immediately, he bolted toward Athena's desk. The papers in his hands scattered across the floor, fluttering weakly in the air before falling with a dull rustle.
Boom!
The safe had been smashed and twisted out of shape, mangled like a flimsy plastic toy torn apart with ease.
G straightened up, looming in place, his pitch-black eyes brimming with bloodlust as he fixed his gaze on Louis.
This time, he wore no muzzle, revealing the gentle, handsome face of a large, loyal dog.
But Louis, staring at the destroyed safe, saw no lovable big dog—only a monster.
Louis smirked at G. "Brother, how about we discuss this? As long as Joshua succeeds, you'll get to imprison Athena. How about that? It sounds amazing, right? You've always secretly loved her, haven't you? This is the perfect chance!"
G stood firm, staring at Louis as though studying which part of him to bite into first.
"Or," Louis chuckled, feigning seriousness, "I could hit you five times. You'd enjoy that, wouldn't you?"
G's eyes widened at Louis, baffled by how he knew such a thing.
Then, all of a sudden, G opened his mouth. His jaw split wider and wider, the skin tearing, fangs sprouting as his face warped into a monstrous, canine maw.
His clothes ripped apart as his body swelled nearly double its size, thick fur sprouting everywhere. His hands and feet morphed, sprouting razor-sharp claws.
He panted heavily, saliva dripping from his gaping maw, and his eyes burned a blood-red hue.
Louis tilted his head back, staring at the towering beast nearly scraping the ceiling, and muttered, "Oh, oh… what did I say to make you this mad? Can't we really talk this out peacefully?"
Graw!
G roared and lunged at Louis, claws slashing down with a chilling gleam. A single strike would surely send him to heaven on the spot!
Elsewhere, Joshua gawked in shock at the scene. Never had he imagined that his sister's slave was this strong. G wasn't just powerful—he was a monster! And Joshua had never known it.
Watching G's towering form and those claws lashing toward Louis, Joshua shivered, regret already gnawing at him.
At that moment, his screen went completely black, the last image frozen on G's massive claw lunging closer.
Louis had to be dead. Of course he was. How could a human possibly stand against a monster?
Joshua paced frantically around the room, his mind restless, his hand bleeding from where he had bitten into it. The metallic tang and pain filled his mouth, yet none of it could bring him calm.
Meanwhile, Louis—the man Joshua was confident was dead—looked down at the claw marks slashed across his chest, smiling faintly.
Blood poured freely from the gashes, his shirt shredded to tatters. The flesh beneath twitched violently, blood gushing out in waves, the pain so sharp it made one wish for death.
"It really hurts, my friend. Makes me wonder—do you have rabies? I'm too broke to afford treatment or vaccines…" Louis muttered in mock frustration.
"Grawghhhhhhh!"
G roared thunderously and lunged at him again. But this time, Louis didn't dodge. He stood there, flipping his hand over—and a "gemstone" suddenly appeared in his palm.
Louis clenched it hard, crushing it. Instantly, radiant violet light wrapped around his hand, spreading outward, growing and expanding as though following a pre-designed blueprint in a computer. At last, it took shape as a gun, its single barrel aimed directly at G.
"Nice toy," Louis smirked. The next moment, energy gathered at the barrel's tip and then blasted forth, streaking straight toward G!
But G seemed utterly frenzied. He didn't retreat—in fact, it was as though he had already judged the attack to be useless against him.
Boom! Bang!
The energy core tore through G's body, blood erupting instantly as his flesh seemed to ignite from within. But it didn't end there. Suddenly, a massive explosion erupted from the collar around G's neck.
Louis, gritting his teeth against the searing pain in his hand, dove toward Athena's desk and curled up on the ground.
The blast tore G apart, scattering him into pieces. His bones shot out like shrapnel, embedding into every surface.
Only after a long while did Louis dare crawl back out.
The entire room was drenched crimson, G's flesh and bones strewn everywhere—he was dead beyond any doubt.
Athena truly was prepared to sacrifice anyone but herself.
Louis panted heavily, cold sweat dripping down his face as he lowered his gaze to his hands. The energy gun was gone, leaving only his scorched, blackened hand. Flesh peeled away in chunks, blood dripping steadily down.
"There really is no such thing as a free lunch…"
From the moment he activated the gun, he had felt the unimaginable agony, the searing burn it brought—almost as if Luna and Lucas, no matter what reason they had to help him, still wished to punish him, to make him suffer.
"What a nuisance."
Expression hardening, Louis strode toward the pile of scattered papers, quickly found the map, and left the room.
Before going, he lifted his gaze to the camera still glowing red on the wall—and suddenly flashed a smile. Send my regards to dear Aboli. Are you enjoying the show?
