Chapter 41: The Time Has Come
"Luna, are you questioning me?" Hearing Luna's words, Lucas couldn't help but speak coldly.
"No, Lucas, I'm sorry. But… could you kill Aboli before dealing with Louis?" Luna's voice was soft.
"We can't do that." Lucas directly rejected her.
"No, you know we can, brother," Luna said with a smile.
Lucas fell silent.
Yes, they could do it. Many people would be buried along with them, but so what? All they wanted was to sweep away the pests they despised! Luna could no longer hold back; she was impatient to carry it out. She hated Aboli, hated him to the core. And she knew Lucas felt the same.
After a moment, Lucas spoke softly: "Wait for the right opportunity."
Luna smiled happily.
"Take this, I believe it will help you in dangerous times." Just as Louis was lost in thought, John's voice rang again. He handed Louis a purple "gemstone," smiling as he did.
Louis couldn't help but smile a little but shook his head: "This is too valuable. I can't accept it."
Hearing that, John directly pressed the gemstone into Louis's hand, stood up, and said, "This is from Luna and Lucas. Don't refuse, or they won't be pleased."
At those words, Louis couldn't help but tremble slightly. His lips moved as he asked: "What… did they say about me?"
"They said they miss you very much." John smiled, as if he didn't know anything more. After delivering the gemstone to Louis, he turned to leave.
But just then, Louis suddenly grabbed his hand in a panic, his face distraught: "Why are they here?"
Lucas looked at Louis's uneasy expression and chuckled: "So he does know fear. This trembling look of his is actually much more pleasing to the eye."
"Louis, what's wrong with you?" Outwardly, John feigned concern as he asked Louis, while simultaneously pulling his hand free.
"What are you people doing?!" Joshua had also heard the commotion on the other side and rushed over. Seeing Louis gripping John's hand tightly, his face instantly turned sour.
"Louis, what the hell are you doing?"
He immediately stepped forward. Even though his anger was directed at Louis, his target remained John.
Shoved aside by Joshua, John could only smile awkwardly. In truth, his "mind" at that moment was already coming up with countless ways to torture Joshua to death.
Before John could say anything, Joshua seized Louis's hand and pulled him away, his voice cold: "It seems this place doesn't welcome me and Louis. In that case, there's no reason for us to stay!"
Watching Joshua's figure quickly vanish, a few people couldn't help but curse under their breath: "Lunatic!"
"He should count himself lucky to be born into the Aurellan family and to be Athena's younger brother. Disgusting."
Many muttered their curses, but none dared openly gather to badmouth Joshua. Who knew if the people standing beside them might stab them in the back later, reporting everything to Joshua?
Even if they despised and scorned him, they couldn't deny that Joshua had the power to end their lives.
Bang!
Joshua shoved Louis directly into the car, causing him to stumble. His head struck the window with a loud thud.
Louis clutched his head, avoiding Joshua's gaze.
"Looking for a new master, are you? Who gave you the guts, Louis? Even if I want to kill you, all you can do is bare your neck and wait for me to finish you off!"
With those words, he suddenly yanked open a drawer. Louis hadn't even seen what was inside when the sound of a ringing phone broke the moment.
Joshua lightly tapped the earpiece at his ear. From the other side came an aged voice: "We've found an excuse to invite Master Athena out."
If any Aurellan family elder were present, they would instantly recognize this as the voice of one of their clan's old council members.
Joshua smirked at the news, his gaze falling on Louis as he pushed the drawer shut.
The car began to move. Joshua settled into his seat, extending a small hand toward Louis with a harmless, thoughtful smile.
Louis blinked in surprise but accepted the hand, using it to rise to his feet.
Only then did Joshua smile and say: "It's time you fulfilled your promise, Louis."
As soon as Louis sat down, hearing those words made his body stiffen, his pupils trembling.
Joshua looked at him with a chuckle: "Don't worry. Athena has her own matters to handle. All you need to do is follow my instructions."
Louis hesitated: "I can, but to be sure… at least give me some information about Sylus, Joshua."
Joshua laughed at that: "Not entirely brainless, I see."
Louis pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
Joshua let out a cold snort before speaking: "The only place Sylus could be held is in Athena's laboratory. A map leads straight there among the documents I want you to retrieve. Do as I say, and you'll get the answers you're after!"
At last, Louis nodded. Even trembling with nerves, he refused to back down. He had to save Sylus!
The Aurellan estate hardly had many people around. The servants working there always hid themselves away, moving like lifeless puppets. Joshua's butler, meanwhile, followed him obsessively.
Today, with Athena and G away, the mansion was emptier than ever—just the perfect timing for Joshua to set his plan in motion.
Since their parents passed away, although Athena held the reins of power, Joshua knew the elders had always supported him. The elders wanted him to take control instead of Athena, and they had even contacted him many times.
But in truth, he had been terrified. How foolish could these older men be to dare challenge Athena's authority?
Yet when things began to unfold, Joshua realized he wasn't as afraid as he had thought. Just imagining himself sitting in Athena's position made his whole body tremble excitedly!
He wouldn't lift a hand himself—the elders were urging him forward. As for Louis, he had nothing to do with Joshua. Louis was driven mad to save Sylus, enough to dare storm into Athena's office.
Satisfied, Joshua pinned a rose-shaped brooch onto Louis's chest, reminding him, "Be sure to take clear pictures."
Any documents caught within the brooch's lens would immediately be transmitted to the elders' data center!
When that happened, all of Athena's secret projects would be his! If Athena carelessly allowed such information to leak, she would no longer be qualified to hold her position!
Excitement coursed through Joshua—he was sure the elders would vote for him unanimously!
Louis glanced at Joshua's eager expression before quickly heading upstairs to the third floor, where Athena's office was.
Meanwhile, Athena herself had already arrived at the meeting place.
The headquarters of the Aurellan family conglomerate.
Today, she wore a black suit that perfectly outlined her flawless figure and long, slender legs.
Her high heels clicked against the ground, and employees bowed their heads in greeting wherever she passed.
Athena smiled in response as she entered a private elevator to the top floor, where the urgent meeting demanded by the elders was to take place.
These older men were growing more and more troublesome. Athena's dark eyes glinted as she adjusted her glasses.
The vice-chair's secretary had been waiting outside for some time. When she saw Aboli approach, she quickly bowed in greeting before hurrying to speak: "The elders keep pressuring us, saying the release of new products is too slow, that the corporation is stagnating. They want to seek a real scientific team instead of relying solely on you!"
The secretary was so angry she nearly ground her teeth. These elders did nothing but bark all day. If not for the chairwoman, the Aurellan family would never have reached its current status—yet they still dared to make things difficult for her!
Suddenly, Athena raised a hand to halt her secretary. Her gaze was deep and unfathomable as she spoke softly: "This will be a private meeting between me and the elders. Do not let anyone else enter."
Hearing that, the secretary's eyes widened in shock. Her otherwise plain face lit up with surprise, and then she suddenly broke into a broad grin, barely restraining herself from laughing aloud.
"Understood, Chairwoman!"
The door closed before the secretary, cutting off all sound from within…
