Chapter 29: Sylus’s Confession
"Ugh! Hrk!"
Louis collapsed over the toilet, fingers jammed down his throat as he retched violently, as if trying to vomit out his very organs.
Damn it, hopefully his stomach hadn't digested anything yet!
He didn't think Athena's words were just symbolic. Something that could make people addicted… or even labeled by the government as Hazardous Substance S01—that was none other than the drug fad that had swept through not long ago.
It originated from the Aurellan family, practically a public experiment on Athena herself. What could they do? Those people with an addiction had "volunteered" to test the drug for her…
Louis, drained, collapsed onto the bed, shutting his eyes as his thoughts spun.
The Astar Auction House, the largest in Zone 5, has over half its shares belonging to the Aurellan family.
Not only famous in Zone 5, but it was also the gathering place of nobles every auction season.
Tomorrow was the annual auction of Astar—countless rare items would be displayed, and it would be the stage for nobles to flaunt their wealth and power.
Of course, only the nouveau riche would act that way.
Athena suddenly wanted to drag him to that damned place—who knew what was going through her head?
Louis rubbed at the cat's ears, but no matter how clever he was, he couldn't figure out their structure just by touch.
Shit, there better not be some bomb buried inside!
At least he'd managed to gain Athena's initial trust. Yes, he was nothing more than a simple, sweet fool.
"For now, just endure a little. Fall in love with Athena, slowly, step by step, like rain seeping into the soil."
Louis muttered, the words sounding like self-hypnosis.
At that moment, G's voice suddenly rang out from outside:
"Louis, come with me. Master wants you to learn a few things."
Louis exhaled before stepping out.
G hadn't been lying—he really did take Louis to study. How to manage affairs, compile summaries, and write reports. He also gave Louis a rough overview of the Aurellan family's authority, what they were responsible for producing, their role on this planet, and the great mission they carried.
But staring at these documents—ones not top-secret but still holding vital information—Louis once again deeply understood Athena's arrogance.
She let him, someone who had only been here less than two days, access all this just because she saw his "sincerity." She wasn't even worried about whether he was a spy or not.
On second thought, if he were a spy, she'd probably find it even more entertaining. She might have already arranged all sorts of paths for him.
Louis flipped through the files in his hand. He didn't bother pretending ignorance, just carried on with the work.
What a pity… in this life, he wouldn't even have the chance to live in peace and waste away in debauchery. Sylus, you seriously owe me a huge thank-you!
G stood to the side, watching Louis gradually get used to the work, his eyes glinting faintly.
"How is it?"
Athena stood in the laboratory, her white lab coat doing nothing to hide her tall, slender figure.
She didn't even glance at G, only asked.
G reported truthfully:
"He's not stupid."
They would surely have reminded their superior about Louis's presence if it had been an ordinary subordinate. But G would never do that. He knew that no matter what Louis looked like or what kind of brain he had, everything had already been within Athena's calculations.
As expected, Athena only smiled faintly, saying nothing more.
"Oh, right. Don't let Joshua scare Louis anymore." Athena turned to look at G, raising her hand to touch the muzzle strapped over him. The cold sensation—whether from the muzzle or Athena's hand—was impossible to tell. "A dog should know how to guard the door."
G obediently lowered his head. "Yes, Master."
And so, G shifted all the work directly onto Louis, standing to the side to watch him.
Louis couldn't help the twitch at the corner of his lips, staring at the oversized dog speechlessly.
Really? Was that the best he could do for jealousy—such childish tricks? Funny, actually.
Louis worked the entire afternoon, and G watched him, his piercing eyes as if trying to burn Louis alive.
At last, Louis suddenly stood, meeting G's gaze with a smile. "A toy that dares fall in love with its master, huh?"
G's eyes flicked to Louis's motionless cat ears, his gaze icy. "Liar."
Louis froze momentarily, then suddenly clutched his stomach and burst out laughing. "Ha ha ha! A liar, me? I'm a liar?"
He strode right up to G, jabbing a finger into his chest, mocking: "But Athena sees me as the honest one. The only liar here is you, puppy."
G narrowed his eyes at Louis, feeling certain that one day Master would regret bringing this man home.
At that moment, G suddenly raised his fist—massive, swinging down with enough force to smash any man's skull. The air itself tore aside in its path. His speed wasn't too fast, just enough that Louis could clearly see it coming.
Closer, closer—yet Louis only smiled at him, eyes utterly devoid of fear.
Swish!
Ultimately, the fist didn't crash into Louis's irritatingly smug face. It veered off, the gust it carried blowing his hair askew.
"What's wrong? Didn't dare?"
Louis smirked, his face brimming with provocation.
G knew his emotions were always steady, but faced with Louis like this, he suddenly felt his teeth itch—he wanted nothing more than to rip out the man's throat.
Tch. Good thing he had the muzzle.
"Joshua's been looking everywhere for you," G said suddenly. He was satisfied to see Louis's pupils shrink slightly, his lips pressed tight.
Louis glared at G, then directly slapped him across the face, hard enough to knock G's head to the side.
G's black eyes widened, trembling slightly, but he didn't move—just stayed frozen in that posture.
Louis ignored him, tossing the pile of documents onto him instead. Papers flew messily across the room.
"These things, I don't understand. You handle them yourself."
Louis strutted out of the room after saying that. He said "a few things," but the whole pile of work was left there.
Bang!
The door slammed shut, and G's body suddenly jerked.
His eyes flushed red, as if about to boil over. Saliva dripped from beneath his muzzle, mixed with blood, and every breath he took seemed to steam the air.
"Ha… ha…"
G's hand moved down to his lower body, where a huge bulge had already formed. He growled, like a beast left unsated, his hand clawing at his own neck until fresh blood smeared it. He curled up, gasping raggedly.
"Pathetic."
At that moment, Athena's distant voice suddenly echoed from deep within his memory.
G's eyes widened, his body shuddering once before going rigid. The room was left with his strained, guttural breathing and the musky, metallic stench filling the air.
Louis shook his hand. A clear red mark was on it—he really had struck G hard, though that damn muzzle of his was far too sturdy.
He had no intention of returning to his room. What he wanted was to find the most significant trouble of all—Sylus.
Remembering the scene in the garden, Louis finally decided to head there.
That day, two Aurellans from a collateral line visited Joshua. Since they weren't in the manor, the garden hadn't been occupied, leaving the night oddly silent.
Then, suddenly, the sound of wind tore through—the air sliced apart as someone arrived, the petals brushing together in a rustling chorus.
Louis stood behind the large tree in the garden, feeling sleepy.
"Moonlight… Athena, the one I love… what should I do? Has my heart really betrayed you? I don't deserve to exist in this world. I should have died. But I… but I…"
Sylus stood beneath the skylight, lamenting endlessly, glittering tears slipping down his cheeks.
His whole figure was in ruins—ashen skin, wounds still bleeding, clothes soaked through a deep crimson.
And still, he repeatedly repented: "I should have died, for my love for you has faded, Athena. But I couldn't. I realized… perhaps I love myself more."
Louis: "…" Tired.
