Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 202: Resentment Within the Calamity Fog (Part 2)

His gaze locked onto the resentment, thinking to himself, let me see what this is about.

As the red light from the resentment surged towards him, his consciousness swayed, and from the first-person perspective, he found himself in a place both familiar and strange.

Judging by the structure of the building, he was likely in the power station of the Underground Shelter, but compared to the power stations he visited before, this one was bustling, with hundreds of people busily rushing around, as if preparing for something major.

Before Wu Chang could get a clear view of his surroundings, a piercing alarm sounded from the district of the underground refuge. Starting from the district, alarms began to blare throughout the Underground Shelter, including the power station.

At the same time, a voice came through his headset.

"The backup plan has failed, and the situation is evolving towards the worst-case scenario. Everyone assemble and activate the final plan."

The voice in the headset was very distinctive. It was He Yun's voice, but compared to the He Yun that Wu Chang knew, this voice was more decisive and aloof.

Upon receiving He Yun's command, the owner of the resentment took the elevator towards the circuit passage below the power station.

"I thought being stationed at the power station meant I'd be the first to arrive, but it turns out you guys got here even earlier than me!"

As soon as he entered the circuit passage, Wu Chang saw more than twenty companions in mecha suits already waiting inside, apparently members who had received He Yun's command.

Among the crowd, one person stood out. He wasn't wearing a mecha suit but a suit resembling an insurance salesman's.

The owner of the resentment shouted, "Mercury, you really are a jinx. You jinxed it, and the worst situation really came true."

The man called Mercury adjusted his tie and said calmly, "Zhuo Jie, I've explained to you many times, I'm not a jinx; I just have foresight. As long as you look far enough ahead, you can see the outcome of many things when they happen."

"Though you have indeed said so, I still think it's your jinx causing it."

Through their conversation, Wu Chang learned that the protagonist's name, from his perspective, was Zhuo Jie, and that Mercury, named after a God, was obviously a Player.

Moreover, he was a very powerful Player.

While everyone was joking around, the gate deep in the circuit passage opened, and He Yun, along with a man who resembled her by eighty percent, walked out.

He Yun swept her gaze over everyone and said,

"You all know what we must do. This is our last chance, and the last chance for Shelter No. 88."

"This matter is extremely dangerous. If we fail, we will all die, but if we do nothing, everyone will die. So, everyone, please lend me your power."

After He Yun finished her speech, everyone was moved by the atmosphere in her words and became serious, except for Zhuo Jie, who burst out laughing and shouted,

"Boss, it's not our first day knowing each other. Whenever you ask, have we ever been afraid? Why are you dawdling today, like a lady."

His companion next to him gave Zhuo Jie a punch and laughed, "You screw up the mood, you bastard. Besides, the boss is a lady."

Zhuo Jie rubbed his arm and grumbled, "The boss holds records higher than any of us in three major categories; she's a man born in the wrong body."

He Yun looked at Zhuo Jie with a line-streaked face, her aloof tone dissipated considerably as she said in a frustrated tone,

"If we make it back this time, you brat will wear a maid outfit and hand out flyers for a month at the Bliss Sect's entrance for me."

Zhuo Jie exaggerated, "Oh no, I didn't plan on dying, but is it still time to write a will?"

With Zhuo Jie's interruption, the sorrowful atmosphere became lively, and everyone laughed and joked as they crossed the gate, venturing further into the power station underground.

Following Zhuo Jie's perspective, Wu Chang entered the place He Yun mentioned.

Contrary to what he imagined, the deeper area was not a miner's tunnel for underground energy research but a region comparable to, or even more developed than the shelter's district.

Although there were no skyscrapers here, various factories and research facilities were densely packed, with many buildings typically located in the city center moved to the deeper area.

It seemed that the entire focus of Shelter No. 88 was shifting towards the deeper underground.

However, at this moment, all these buildings halted operations, with alarms blaring just like the district above.

Passing through these buildings, everyone boarded a large transport vehicle heading for the end of the highway.

At the end of the highway was a massive metal gate, which He Yun used an identity card to swipe open a small door on the gate.

Under He Yun's command, everyone opened the protective covers on the mecha suits, entering after passing through the large gate.

Beyond the gate, a vast whiteness of Calamity Fog greeted everyone's sight.

Here, the Calamity Fog was especially active, floating on its own like a living creature without wind.

Everyone relied on the shields of the mecha suits capable of isolating the Calamity Fog to traverse through it.

In the midst of the fog, they observed a massive Stone Temple.

The temple was only a dozen meters high, and small compared to the skyscrapers on the surface and the twenty-story buildings of the underground shelter district.

Yet, in everyone's eyes, the temple projected a grandiose primitive magnificence, as if one temple could fill the heavens and the earth, far bigger than any skyscraper.
