Beast Taming: Slaughter Atlas

Chapter 224: Fame Breeds Trouble

"No." Chu Chen immediately stopped him.

"Oh? Why is that? Do you think I'm not worthy to be your mentor?" Dong Hanyang said somewhat angrily.

Upon hearing this, Chu Chen quickly recounted the situation.

Dong Hanyang frowned upon hearing the words and said, "This matter is indeed difficult to handle. We can only spread some rumors saying that I am interested in taking you as my disciple. However, it depends on your performance in the Daoist School exchange competition. This way, those major forces will have to weigh their actions before targeting you, and Zhang Kun will not hold back on his intentions. But he'll employ more power to ensure everything goes smoothly."

Chu Chen nodded solemnly, feeling the necessity to inform Wang Tianxiong to further augment manpower.

Dong Hanyang sighed upon hearing this and said, "Alright, I'll help you one more time. Notify me ahead of your departure, and I'll arrange for a Soul King to protect you covertly. The City Lord's Mansion belongs to the neutral faction, not participating in any conflicts, and sending out one person is already the limit."

Chu Chen immediately showed a joyful expression and quickly clasped his hands in gratitude, saying, "Thank you, Elder Dong."

Dong Hanyang waved his hand and said, "No need to be courteous. You and I are now tied together; if anything happens to you, my Beast Taming Egg will be gone."

After giving some final instructions, Dong Hanyang turned and left.

Moments later, Lu Hongfei hurriedly rushed up. Seeing Chu Chen safe and sound, he let out a sigh of relief.

Zhang Yuyan and the other two also arrived one after the other.

"Did City Lord Dong give you a hard time?" Lu Hongfei asked worriedly.

"It's nothing, just wanted to chat with me."

Upon hearing this, everyone frowned; Chu Chen's answer was too perfunctory. However, since he was unwilling to say more, they felt it was inappropriate to continue questioning him.

At this moment, Steward Sun led four staff members over, each carrying a tray. Within were four Beast Taming Eggs.

"These are the four Beast Taming Eggs you specified. The other six have been bought back by the Gambling Egg Pavilion at market price, totaling 130,000. Please check it over," Steward Sun said with a smile.

Steward Sun was in high spirits, having just been praised by Lord City Lord; his future career seemed smooth, all thanks to the young man before him. Hence, his demeanor was exceedingly courteous.

Chu Chen summoned the Slaughter Atlas to examine the four Beast Taming Eggs. Confirming there were no issues, he stored them in the Space Belt.

"Steward Sun, let's consider the money settled. Everyone worked hard tonight, how about I treat you to tea?"

Upon hearing this, Steward Sun wanted to refuse, but considering the young man had just won five million, he laughed and said, "Then I shall accept your kindness. In the future, feel free to come directly to me; I'll ensure you have a great time."

"Alright, it's settled then. I have other matters, so I'll take my leave first."

When Chu Chen and the others reached the fourth floor, they noticed everyone was staring at him, making him feel as if he had spikes on his back.

Chu Chen dared not linger and continued down, but the result was the same: numerous eyes fell upon him, filled with envy, jealousy, hatred, greed, and more.

This place harbored every gaze one could think of; possessing a billion in cash and mysterious gambling egg skills, in the eyes of some, he was a walking treasure vault.

After exiting the Gambling Egg Pavilion, the group of five rapidly made their way to Cyan Dragon Daoist School.

The tail behind them numbered over a hundred, making Chu Chen quite helpless, truly exemplifying the saying: people fear fame as pigs fear becoming fat.

Only when the group returned to Cyan Dragon Daoist School did the tail stop.

Sitting together to rest, their expressions were not bright.

Being followed by so many, even if they didn't travel together, those tails would remain.

"Everyone need not worry, the matter at the Gambling Egg Pavilion will be dealt with by Lord City Lord," Chu Chen said with a smile.

"Really?" Gu Hui quickly asked.

"Of course, rest easy tonight; I believe there'll be an outcome tomorrow," Chu Chen assured confidently.

Seeing this, everyone let out a sigh of relief.

The Gu Family siblings were the first to rise and leave.

Lu Hongfei and Zhang Yuyan also intended to leave upon seeing this but were stopped by Chu Chen.

Once the siblings had walked away, Lu Hongfei asked, "Do you have something else?"

Chu Chen did not hide it and spoke about Dong Hanyang's fabricated excuse and Zhang Kun's potential increase in manpower.

Lu Hongfei's expression turned grim upon hearing this. After a moment of silence, he said, "I'll discuss this with Director Wang and have him arrange more manpower." With that, he hurriedly left.

After Lu Hongfei left, Chu Chen returned the bank card Zhang Yuyan had lent him earlier, and then handed her the Beast Taming Egg of the White Snow Sword Crane.

Zhang Yuyan looked at the Beast Taming Egg in surprise and asked, "Is this for me?"

Chu Chen responded with a smile, "Certainly, to thank you for your trust in me, and as a gift for you breaking through to the Soul Master level. I know you're lacking a flying Beast, so I hope you like this White Snow Sword Crane's Beast Taming Egg."

Zhang Yuyan immediately showed a joyful expression, accepting it without being overly modest.

"Thank you for the gift; I love it." She said, blushing, as she rushed away.

It was Chu Chen's first time giving a gift to a girl, and he didn't expect it to work so well. Could she have misunderstood something?

Thinking this, Chu Chen couldn't help but chuckle. Saying he didn't like her would be too dishonest, but Zhang Yuyan's background was too intimidating; he lacked the courage to act despite his affection, choosing instead to keep his feelings hidden, lest he met a mysterious end.

In the City Lord's office, Dong Hanyang sat at his desk, sipping a bit of tea as he asked, "Shadow, what do you think of that little fellow?"

As his voice fell, a shadow appeared behind him.

"This young fellow is quite interesting, carrying many secrets. Despite his talent and strength, he managed to stand out among a crowd of geniuses, something even I was unable to do in my time."

"Hmm, this young fellow has a steady heart; despite causing such a commotion today, he seemed completely unfazed."

"Would this kid have anything to do with Elder Zhang?"

Dong Hanyang shook his head upon hearing this and said, "No, that little girl should be related to Elder Zhang. From what the other party implied, the information about Elder Zhang was likely only shared tonight."

The shadow, surprised by this, said, "Oh? That's quite intriguing. Could he have hidden tactics of his own?"

Dong Hanyang pondered for a moment before saying, "No, he's likely relying on that young girl. But when I appeared, he seemed not to be startled, as if he had expected my arrival."

"Yes, I noticed that too. In that case, we might have underestimated him. Are you seriously considering taking him as an apprentice?" Shadow asked, somewhat surprised.

Dong Hanyang chuckled and said, "I've been City Lord for so many years, and I'm a bit tired. Let's see how he performs next."
