Beast Taming: Slaughter Atlas

Chapter 143: Human-faced Poison Spider (Part 1)

The intense explosion lifted a sky full of dust, obscuring everyone's view of the aftermath.

A moment later, a gentle breeze blew through, carrying the dust away.

Only then could everyone see the situation outside the city clearly.

"Hiss"

The sounds of gasping came one after another, and everyone's faces turned pale.

Four huge craters appeared where the beast horde had been.

Each crater was ten zhang in diameter, with a depth of more than two zhang.

There were no Star Beast corpses inside the craters, but around them were scattered pieces of flesh, and at the outer edges lay the bodies of Star Beasts, crisscrossed.

Just one attack from the four Star Core Cannons had obliterated seventy percent of the Star Beasts, with ten percent of the remaining beasts seriously injured and more than ten percent slightly injured; less than ten percent were intact.

The power of the Star Core Cannon was terrifying; just one round nearly wiped out the War General Level beast horde.

The remaining two thousand plus Star Beasts were scared out of their wits and, without any hesitation, returned directly to the Beast Tide.

The Beast King wasn't angered by this, as it was still in shock, even wondering if it could withstand the Star Core Cannon itself. Facing such a dreadful weapon, the siege seemed like a joke.

For a moment, the entire Beast Tide was unusually quiet as all the Star Beasts awaited the Beast King's command.

The Beast King, however, was staring intently at the Star Core Cannons on the city wall, deep in thought, unable to determine the firing frequency of the cannons. If they could be used continuously, continuing the siege would be a suicidal endeavor, but it was loathe to just give up after waiting for this breakthrough opportunity for decades.

While the siege fell into a momentary standstill, the battle on Chu Chen's side never ceased.

A third of the distance to the sewer exit remained.

Chu Chen initially thought the remaining journey would only involve encountering Mud Swamp Pythons, but reality surprised him.

A few minutes later, they encountered a new kind of Star Beast.

Their path was blocked by a giant spider web, on which lay two massive spider-like Star Beasts.

They stood about one zhang tall, with a body length of up to two zhang, entirely dark green in color, with a bloated abdomen featuring a human-like face pattern, looking extremely terrifying. Their legs were long, and the tips were very sharp, like long spears.

Faced with such Star Beasts, Chu Chen didn't dare take any chances, quickly summoning the Slaughter Atlas to check the information on this spider.

After reviewing the Slaughter Atlas, Chu Chen couldn't help but grow serious.

This Human-faced Poison Spider was very powerful and extremely troublesome.

Not only did they possess a potent poison that made people turn pale at the mention, but their web control was also exceptionally formidable.

Speaking of the Human-faced Poison Spider race, they were also known by a loud nickname, "Love Seeds." They always appeared in pairs; it's their racial habit. They have only one lifetime partner. Once confirmed, they are inseparable, and if one suddenly dies, the other will starve itself to death.

It is said that a Beast Master once conducted an experiment; he contracted a Human-faced Poison Spider hatchling and, upon its maturing, led it to find a mate, resulting in him having a half-tamed beast.

The reason it was called half-tamed is that the Beast Master could control the other Human-faced Poison Spider through the one he had contracted.

However, this scenario was akin to a double-edged sword; if the indirectly controlled Human-faced Poison Spider died, the contracted one would starve itself despite the master's persuasion.

Furthermore, carrying the Human-faced Poison Spider was extremely inconvenient, requiring Beast Taming Equipment.

During combat, it was difficult to command promptly; sometimes, it even became a hindrance.

"What should we do next?" Wang Lu asked in a low voice.

Hearing this, Chu Chen responded solemnly, "Let's continue having Lei Yao and Nirvana as the main attackers, and you guys provide support from the side."

The four nodded gravely in response.

"Have the Burning Flame Fox use its Fireballs to attack the spider web," Chu Chen commanded sternly.

Upon hearing this, Cold Face didn't hesitate and immediately ordered the Burning Flame Fox to launch an attack.

A basketball-sized Fireball landed directly on the spider web, instantly burning a large hole, and soon the entire web was set ablaze.

The two Human-faced Poison Spiders naturally noticed Chu Chen and the others.

They immediately moved off the web and charged toward Chu Chen and his group.

Seeing this, Chu Chen quickly directed Nirvana and Lei Yao to confront them.

The Human-faced Poison Spider moved extremely fast and reached the two beasts in the blink of an eye, thrusting its sharp spider spear toward Lei Yao's body.

Seeing this, Lei Yao dared not take it head-on and quickly turned to dodge. It hadn't even had time to counterattack before another spider spear of the Human-faced Poison Spider shot forward, forcing it to evade again, with no chance to strike back.

Nirvana, however, was more reckless in its combat style, charging directly at the other Human-faced Poison Spider with its Earth Rock Armor.

The Human-faced Poison Spider could hardly refuse food delivered to its doorstep. It raised its spider spear and stabbed straight at Nirvana.

With a heavy "bang," the spider spear struck hard onto the Earth Rock Armor.

The thick Earth Rock Armor cracked instantly, but it did not shatter completely.

Nirvana continued its stride, charging straight to the Human-faced Poison Spider, its giant Ao Clamp snapping at the spider spear on the side.

The Human-faced Poison Spider encountered such a fierce opponent for the first time, leaving it unprepared and giving Nirvana a chance.

It was too late to dodge; the Ao Clamp clamped down tightly on the spider leg, then gave a fierce shake of its head, severing the slender spider leg into two.

Screaming angrily from the pain, the Human-faced Poison Spider dared not stay and, with the force of its remaining seven legs, leaped several zhang away.

Seeing this, Chu Chen was surprised by the Human-faced Poison Spider's strong strength, with spider legs of tremendous power and such a massive body appearing so light.

The battle for Nirvana seemed under temporary control, while Lei Yao was stuck in a bind, with the Human-faced Poison Spider attacking so swiftly that Lei Yao struggled to find a chance to counterattack.

Seeing this, Chu Chen immediately launched a "Soul Spike" at the Human-faced Poison Spider.

The "Soul Spike" was only palm-sized, entirely semi-transparent, emanating intense Soul Power fluctuations.

The "Soul Spike" moved incredibly fast, appearing before the Human-faced Poison Spider in the blink of an eye.

The Human-faced Poison Spider suddenly felt a sense of crisis in its soul, with its heart rate involuntarily increasing.

The next moment, the "Soul Spike" pierced directly into the Human-faced Poison Spider's head, sending a stabbing pain through its soul, causing its body to halt abruptly, emitting a piercing, anguished shriek.
