"I knew something was wrong. So it wasn't a peak bronze rank, but a mutated peak bronze rank demonic beast. No wonder it cost me two fucking lives," Ray thought after reading the notifications.
Each usage of the Turtle Shell Armor was the same as surviving death once. It had been used twice during the battle with the Flaming Dire Wolf. It wasn't to say it cost him two of his lives.
Furthermore, this battle had forced his Turtle Shell Armor to enter a state of slumber. Now, three days and a lot of magic power would be needed to make it work again.
Ray went ahead and stored the entire corpse of the Flaming Dire Wolf into his interspatial ring. It would sell for a lot, he believed.
"You have done it!" Ashclaw came running towards him. "The dungeon boss is dead. We can finally get what we came here for. After the Blue Spirit Fruits are secured, I won't need to live in fear anymore, and you can advance your status in the Beast Hall."
In his excitement, Ashclaw hugged Ray.
Ray hugged him back, "Yes, father. After today you won't need to live in fear anymore, and I will go on to become a very successful man."
While saying these words to Ashclaw, his eyes glowed.
The Azure Wind Blade flew out of his hand and stabbed Ashclaw from behind, through his blind spot.
Ashclaw didn't feel anything wrong even as Ray made his move to kill him. He was too busy hugging him to notice anything wrong!
Puchi!
The sound of flesh being torn echoed.
A sword stabbed through Ashclaw's back and nearly burst out of his chest, making him vomit blood on Ray.
The old man's disgusting blood didn't land on Ray.
The defensive layer of Azure Wind surrounding Ray blocked it.
"Why?" Ashclaw looked at him with trembling eyes as he collapsed to the ground.
"Because you deserve it," Ray replied plainly.
"I deserve it?" Ashclaw coughed blood with every word, his body trembling as warmth left his limbs. "I raised you with love. I gave you everything. Why commit patricide?"
He didn't bother reaching for the teleportation scroll. His heart was pierced straight through. The bodies of Iron rank tamers weren't much better than those of commoners and slaves. With his heart sliced open, he was as good as dead.
He knew it. Even if he ran, his steps would only carry him to the grave. Nothing short of a god's miracle could save him. But miracles do not come for men like him, men who had done nothing but a whole bunch of evil their whole life.
In his last moments, he only wanted clarification. Why had his son betrayed him?
"Old dog, stop acting pitiful," Ray said coldly. "Look carefully. Do I still look like your son?"
His disguise melted away. He wanted Ashclaw to die knowing what had killed him. That was the only way to make him die as miserably as possibls.
Ashclaw's fading eyes widened in horror as he recognized the face before him. "H-how… it can't be you… you were dead."
"I crawled out of hell to chop off your head," Ray said that was most of the time as calm as still water was raging with emotions. "You old bastard."
"What did you do to my son?"
"I sent him to hell before you."
"Damn you! You're no man. You're a devil!" Ashclaw screamed like a banshee.
He found Ray more terrifying than Varun ever was. Varun had shown his fangs openly. Ray had hidden his until the very end, only killing him after he had run out of uses, after he had helped him conquer a D-rank dungeon!
Ray scoffed, "I am a devil? Funny to hear it coming from you."
He struck again to cut Ashclaw's head off.
An azure light flashed as Ashclaw's life flashed before his eyes.
Shua!
Blood erupted from the severed neck as Ashclaw's head flew into the air before landing on the dirt with a dull thud.
In that moment.
The man hollowed by greed and cruelty met his doom for real.
♦️ You have killed Ashclaw.
♦️ You have gained +50 EXP.
♦️ You have gained an additional +50,000 EXP for vanquishing a Corrupted Iron Rank Soul.
Ray looked up.
Overhead, the gap in the canopy revealed a pale grey sky.
His gaze seemed to travel past it, beyond the clouds, beyond the distant mountains, as if piercing through time itself, staring at the horizon where the future awaited.
"I have avenged you and your father. You can rest in peace now. As for me, I have lots to do."
"I will keep growing stronger so I can gain the strength to sweep my house clean. Whether it be the wilderness or the royal capital, every place will be cleared of filth and corruption. I will restore the world back to its original state."
The demonic races had to be slaughtered.
Earth wasn't their world. It was humanity's homeland. They were brutal invaders, and they all had to go.
At the same time, a lot of humans needed to be punished.
They had done too much, committing atrocities that made them no better than demonic creatures.
They also had to go.
Ray decided to take on these two tasks.
Before.
He used Devour on Ashclaw's corpse.
♦️ You have devoured Ashclaw.
♦️ The skill was successful.
♦️ You have gained Ashclaw's memories.
♦️ You can now use Mimic to transform into Ashclaw.
Ray's reaction to obtaining Ashclaw's memories was far more intense compared to the last time he used Devour.
If Torvin could be considered a devil's spawn, Ashclaw was the devil who had birthed him.
