Beast Tamer Academy

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

THREE MONTHS LATER

"Are you going to be okay? You have your bag with you, right?" At the airport, or that's what Bryan called it, he was fussed over by his adopted mother as she patted him over.

"Relax, even if something were to happen, I have the training you gave me so I won't die that easily." He laughed and Agnes pursed her lips and let go of him.

"Carl." Agnes turned her gaze to the lizard lying on Bryan's shoulder and he shivered and woke up.

"If anything happens to Bryan, I'm letting Maya eat you. Alive." The lizard, despite it's noble bloodline, nodded in fear and Agnes smiled satisfied.

"_Flight 3048B is taking off in one minute._" An electronic voice announced and Bryan picked up his luggage.

"Bye... Mom." He hid his face and hurried away leaving Agnes standing there shocked from what he said.

"Take care, my darling little boy." She smiled and looked at the flying ship he was in and waved at it.

"As I expected... calling her that is too embarrassing." Bryan said as he settled down in his seat and gazed at the interior of the ship.

Instead of planes, this world's aircraft was flying versions of ships designed for movement in all kinds of terrains.

The reason for that was because of the unpredictable nature of this world so most ships were optimised for two or more terrains.

'Let me review the details for the exam.' Bryan raised his wrist and tapped on the terminal and AA holographic screen appeared above it and he scrolled across the screen until he found a file he had made a shortcut for.

The Fourth Continent's Beast Tamer Academy entrance exam was held in a location just a ten kilometres run away from the place the flying ship was supposed to land.

The details of the exam was unknown and the only thing the examinees were allowed to bring was a basic survival kit and their tamed beast.

Terminals were to be left either at home or lodgings or at the entrance to the test venue.

'Judging from the fact that we are going to need a survival kit, it means that we're going to spend the night outside. The duration of the exam is three days so I should prepare for at least a week.' Bryan thought as he looked at the box that was by his feet and made a mental note to buy more supplies.

'The Beast Tamer Academy was a place to train elites so there are two options for a test. Either a pure combat against monsters or a survival. The Beast Tamer Academy admits noncombatants so it is most likely a survival. They said the duration is three days but knowing how often bad guys attack exams, preparing for a week is the right answer. Just like I thought.'

'Number one rule of survival is to find comrades. I specialise in attack so finding someone who can scout ahead and a support-type would be ideal. A defence type would be gold. So to summarise, I have to make friends.'

Bryan's mind cooled as he arrived at this conclusion and he slumped in his seat.

For all his prowess, forming interpersonal relationships has always been difficult.

It was not that he had no confidence in himself or was unable to express himself. It was just that no one he has ever met clicked with him.

'Ah... I guess I did with someone but he doesn't count.' The thought of a friend he once had in this world flashed through his mind and he faintly smiled.

'Wait, I shouldn't try to escape from my problems. How should I go about making a team?' He wracked his head and before he knew it, the ship had already taken off and he was in the air.

"Hmm, doesn't feel that much different from a car." He commented as he felt the vibrations that passed through the seat.

"Grr..." Well, it seemed to be different for Carl as he flicked his tongue and let our a growl that could only be considered cute.

"Rest assured. This ship would not crash so long as the captains do not get distracted and notice the iceberg." Bryan said as it pattes the scaly back of the lizard.

Carl looked at him like he was looking at a fool and his eyes seemed to say, "This ship flies, idiot."

"Hey! That's rude." Bryan said and Carl snorted and let out a puff of flames that singed a speck of dust that was falling.

As the ship sailed through the air, Bryan felt drowsiness seep into his body and his eyelids began to grow heavy.

'I guess it doesn't change just because it's a ship.' For as long as he could remember, both on Earth and in this world, Vehicles had always been so comfortable that he often slept when ever he was in one.

"Carl, wake me up when we get there." Bryan said and adjusted his sleeping position before dozing off.

...

"... passenger. Passenger!" Bryan felt someone shaking him and he groggily opened his eyes to see a flight attendant shaking him.

"You're finally awake. The flight has landed and everyone except you has gone off." She said in a sweet voice but Bryan could vaguely sense her irritation.

He hurriedly apologised to her and grabbed his sleeping lizard and his luggage and left immediately.

"Carl, what was the big idea? I told you to wake me up, didn't I?" Bryan hissed as he made his way through the crowd and headed to the hotel he reserved earlier.

"I never agreed to do so." was what the lizard seemed to say as he snorted fire and Bryna grabbed Carl by his tail and dangled it in the air.

"Just cooperate. I don't want to have to tell on Agnes." The lizard shivered and nodded his head and Bryan sighed.

"Where do you find a tamed beast that obeys others more than its own contractor?" He flagged down a cab and negotiated with the driver and entered left the station.
