Bastard Homunculus: Reborn in the Corpse Pit

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Return of the Undead King(Part 5)

As the Undead King approached her, Jules shakily raised her right hand and unleashed a sharp burst of flames, sending him stumbling back as she scorched the front of his body, before firing out jets of flames from the soles of her feet to fly up.

She balanced her body upright as she hovered in the air, floating above the Miasma flowing over the area, while the Undead King stared up at her in amusement.

"Th-there's...there's no way you can keep regenerating indefinitely. I just...I just need to keep damaging you until you run out of Mana and-...," She began with a grimace, her vision blurring thanks to the effects of the Miasma debilitating her.

"Yeah, I'm going to stop you right there, that isn't going to work. See, someone already tried that not too long ago, and as you can see, I'm perfectly fine!" He laughed in response.

"Not too long ago? I see, he must be talking about The Irregulars...hm, when I brought it up, Aster Stark seemed to believe that he defeated this bastard when I fought him outside the Quartz Ruins. Which means, making him regenerate repeatedly and drain his Mana is an effective method against him...but evidently, it is not enough to finish him off for good," She surmised warily, before her eyes widened in alarm as he suddenly leapt up towards her, reaching her altitude in the blink of an eye and meeting her gaze from a few centimeters in front of her with a smirk on his face.

He then grabbed her arms as she began to swing her sword at him, holding them down before pulling her along with him as he began to plummet.

She fired out a blast of flames at his head from her mouth, turning his face to ash before he swung his head forward as he regenerated, slamming his forehead against hers and severely dazing her as trickles of blood ran down her face from the middle of her forehead, right as her back collided against the ground with a thudding, painful impact, eliciting a sharp gasp from her as he landed on top of her.

He then got up and planted his right foot on her stomach, slowly pressing it down with increasing pressure, her vision blurring sharply as she coughed out blood with an agonized wheeze.

"Alright, I've had my fill with fighting you, it doesn't look like you can entertain me any further. And besides, I should wrap things up for today, this was supposed to be nothing more than a glimpse of what's to come, after all...well, not that you'll be around to see it," He remarked, before driving his fist down towards her face.

Suddenly, as he fist began to close in on her, his arm got diverted off to the right as a spear coated in flames zipped forward and pierced into the middle of his forearm, pushing his arm across.

"C-Captain Fyre...," Uttered Jules shakily, as Fyre swiftly ducked as the Undead King whipped his right fist across towards the Knight's head, narrowly evading it right as Rione sprang up behind the Undead King, his hammer crackling intensely with lightning as he swung it forward.

It slammed onto the Undead King's back with a vicious spark and crackle, launching him forward through the air as the impact snapped his spine like a twig, before he hit the ground and skidded away several meters, coming to a screeching halt.

"What is this dark mist? I feel a bit off," Frowned Fyre as Rione helped Jules back onto her feet, swinging his spear at the Miasma, to no effect.

"Commander!" A voice echoed out, as Tilda raced out of a nearby alley.

"Are you okay, sis?" Inquired Rione with a look of concern, as Tilda came jogging over.

"D-don't take your eyes off him, he regenerates instantly," She uttered with a grimace, right as the Undead King got back onto his feet.

"How fortunate for you, it seems you'll live to see another day, after all. But once you see what I have in store for you next time, I'm sure you'll wish that I'd killed you here today," He remarked with a smirk, before Rione fired out a massive blast of lightning towards him from his hammer.

The blast struck his chest and burst through, blasting a large hole through the middle of his chest, before the Knights' eyes widened in disbelief as the Undead King rapidly regenerated.

"It's no use...no matter how severe the injury, he instantly recovers every time," Jules informed them with a grimace.

"If flames and lightning don't work, then how about this...[Dark Spear Scattershot]!" Chanted Tilda, firing out a barrage of rapid, shadowy projectiles towards him.

The attacks peppered the Undead King's body, drilling several holes through him, before they swiftly closed up as the projectiles petered out.

"It doesn't matter what you throw at me, it's all the same. Alright, I'll wrap things up here for today. But let me assure you that I will return again soon, it won't be long before you see me again," Stated the Undead King with a smirk.

"We won't fall for your bluffs! You're not much of a threat now that we've wiped out your army of undead freaks, don't think for a second that we're just going to stand back and let you get away!" Snapped Rione, as lightning crackled around his hammer.

"Huh? Hahaha...HAHAHAHAHA!!! You really think that was the entirety of my army!? Not even close! The forces I unleashed here today were nothing more a small, SMALL part of my undead army, made up of some of the weakest creatures under my control! Not only do I have a lot, lot more forces that what you saw today, but most of them are far stronger than these ones!

So, no, that wasn't a bluff. And just so you know, you don't have a chance of stopping me from leaving, nor should you waste any effort trying. There's no need to be impatient...like I said, I'll be back soon. And when I do, I'll wipe the nation off the face of the map! And in the aftermath of Persona's destruction, I'm sure all of you will make for fine additions to my undead forces. Well...bye, for now!" He called out as he turned around and began walking away.

"Not so fast!" Exclaimed Rione as he chased after the Undead King, Tilda and Fyre following his head.

"N-no, wait-...!" Began Jules, but they were already gone.

Rione leapt forward as he closed in on the Undead King from behind, swinging his hammer down at the back of his head. The head of the hammer slammed onto the Undead King's head with a crushing impact, streaks of lightning erupting upon impact as he smashed his head in.

He then raised his hammer again, charging in with lightning before his eyes widened in alarm and he quickly lowered his hammer defensively as the Undead King's left foot suddenly swung back with immense force, slamming onto the handle of his hammer and sending him flying back at a rapid speed, a deafening crash echoing out as his slammed onto a building, the wall collapsing in upon impact.

The Undead King's head rapidly regenerated before his gaze darted across to either side as Fyre and Tilda sprang up to his left and right, swinging their weapons across at him.

Fyre's spear sliced off his right arm as Tilda's scythe slashed his head off, which turned to smoke before a new head rapidly grew back.

He then stomped his right foot out, triggering a shockwave and knocking Fyre away as Tilda switched her scythe to its intangible form and swing it through the Undead King's body, the blade phasing through his torso.

"Hm? Was that supposed to do something?" He inquired in bemusement, before whipping his left fist out towards her.

She just barely managed to block it with the handle of her scythe as a blast of flames struck the side of his arm and slowed down some of the momentum of his swing, his fist slamming onto the handle of Tilda's scythe and sending her hurtling back rapidly through the air, her back slamming onto a lamppost with a sharp clang before she lost consciousness as the back of her head thudded against the large metal pole.

He then glanced at Jules, who'd fired the blast of flames that slowed his strike down, before his gaze shifted to the right as Fyre came charging in towards him and drove his spear into the Undead King's side, unleashing a burst of flames inside his body from the blade of the spear.

Streaks of flames erupted out of his body as smoke billowed out of his mouth, before Fyre froze as a wide, chilling grin spread out across the Undead King's face, before he rapidly whipped his fist out towards the Knight's face.

Fyre quickly sprang back as fast as he could, firing out a concentrated burst of flames from his mouth, which slowed down the swing of the Undead King's fist, before it slammed onto the middle of Fyre's face, smashing his nose in and knocking out several teeth as he got sent flying back, skidding along the ground painfully before coming to a screeching halt as blood poured out of his mouth and nose.

"Keep coming after me if you want to throw your lives away, but there's really no need to be so impatient. I'll see you all again soon, when I come back to kill you!" The Undead King called out, before leaping forward at full force, jumping up and over a building ahead and disappearing from sight in a matter of seconds.

"He's gone...and I can't help but feel relieved. But it isn't over...he'll be back, no doubt about it. And when he does...how the hell are we supposed to defeat him?" Jules thought to herself, a creeping sense of despair starting to envelop her...
