Bastard Homunculus: Reborn in the Corpse Pit

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: The Scent of Mana

Meanwhile, in the Knight outpost in Sapphire City, which was under the jurisdiction of the First Squad...

"Hey, what do you think you're doing? I thought the Captain warned you about this, you damned alcoholic," Frowned one of the Knights.

"Whatever, he'sh off on patrol, I can do what I want," Came a slurring response.

"Tch, you may not be a part of our squad, but that doesn't mean you can do as you please. I must insist that you follow our rules while you're here, we aren't as disorganized and ill-disciplined as your Third Squad. As Knights and members of Nobility, we must be dignified in our conduct. Put the bottle down, we need you to be sober and alert in case something happens. That's the whole reason why you're here, because you're a Teleporter capable of long-range teleportation."

"Pleashe, why would I washte my effort over a group of shtupid Commoners? And beshides, I can use my Magic jusht fine even if I'm not shober," Responded the Teleporter, as he took a deep gulp from his bottle of liquor.

"You insubordinate asshole..."

"Is every member of the Third Squad like this? It's no wonder their Captain and First-Class Knights were so easily wiped out."

"Maybe we should just kick this bastard out and make do with the Teleport Spell Cards, he's an eyesore, not to mention he reeks of booze."

"Grr, I can hear you, ashholes! You need me more than I need you, sho shut the fuck up and-...!" Exclaimed the Teleporter as he got back onto his feet aggressively and stumbled forward, before he was abruptly cut off as something came shooting in through the doorway and struck his chest, before piercing in and getting lodged in.

He let out a sharp yell of pain as he coughed out blood, shakily turning his gaze down to his chest before crying out in horror at the sight that met him, a long, sharp bony arrow pierced into the middle of his chest.

"What the-...?" Began one of the other Knights in shock, before trailing off as a figure came zipping in through the entrance rapidly, charging towards the Teleporter and leaping straight towards him as they closed in.

"[L-Long-Range Telep-...]...aghh!!!" He began to chant in desperation, before gasping out in pain as the figure plunged a dagger into his throat, giving it a sharp twist and violently pulling it back out.

"It's too bad...I'd have liked to have given this guy a more painful, drawn-out death, considering the fact that he's a known rapist and all, but unfortunately, I just don't have the luxury," She sighed wistfully, swinging the dagger across to get the blood off.

"Shit, it's one of The Irregulars!"

"Surround her, quickly!"

"That's right, I'm Lexia Bell of The Irregulars...now, if one of you would be so kind as to show me where you keep your Teleport Spell Cards...," Smiled Lexia as she carefully watched the faces of the Knights surrounding her, before noticing one of them glancing towards a drawer by the wall, "Ah, so that's where it is."

She then shot towards the drawer, one of the Knights quickly stepping across in front of it before his eyes widened in alarm as she swiftly leapt up and over him as she closed in, before striking the top of his head with the base of the handle of the dagger, knocking him out.

She then landed behind him as he collapsed onto his knees and fell onto the floor with a thud, before she pulled the drawer out, a gleam appearing in her eyes as she saw that it was full of Spell Cards, before she activated her Storage Ring, transporting the drawer into it.

"Shit, the Teleport Spells!"

"Apprehend her, now!"

"We can't let her get away!"

"Too slow," Smirked Lexia, as she flung a smoke bomb at the floor, a massive cloud of black smoke erupting and concealing her as the Knights cried out in alarm.

She then swiftly and silently shot towards the entrance of the building, leaping out of the smoke cloud and emerging out into the open, before firing out several large bone spikes at the entrance and blocking the doorway, creating an obstacle to slow the Knights down.

"Alright, I've cut the city's phone lines and dealt with the teleportation network here, they won't be able to call for backup anytime soon...that masochistic pervert better be carrying out his role properly, or I'll slap the shit out of him! Oh, wait...knowing him, that'd be more like a reward. That stupid dumbass."

Meanwhile, in the church in the city...

"N-no, wait! Please, don't do this!" Cried the head of the Sapphire City church, Cardinal Hoil Sapphire, as Colt approached him with a sadistic smirk, having wiped out all the Inquisitors in the church.

The Carindal was in his sixties, he was bald with a thick, graying beard, he had dark grey eyes, a fair complexion, and was on the shorter side with an overweight build.

"Heh, that's ironic, I bet you've heard those exact words countless times yourself, haven't you?" Smirked Colt, his expression darkening towards the end.

"I-I don't know what you're talking about, y-you must be mistaken-...!" Stuttered the Cardinal, averting his gaze slightly.

"Oh, I assure you, I'm not. We're well aware of your depravity and lustful appetite, and how you've taken advantage of your position to have your way with the nuns under your command. Now, there's no shame in being lustful, everyone gets horny to varying degrees, it's a natural part of being human...but it's a different story when you make a habit of violating innocent women against their will.

The presence of the First Squad here in Sapphire City has kept you somewhat in check lately, but you've nevertheless managed to inflict more than your fair share of both physical and psychological damage to the women in this city, haven't you?" Inquired Colt icily, as he stepped over the corpse of an Inquisitor and cornered the Cardinal by the wall.

"G-get away from me, y-you lowborn swine!"

"Ah, you're not trying to deny it anymore, that's good. Don't worry, I won't kill you right away...before you die, you'll experience the agony of having every single orifice in your body violently invaded, before you'll feel your insides getting torn apart with merciless brutality. It's a taste of your own medicine, with a little extra spice added to it," Smiled Colt malevolently, as he extended out several blood tendrils from his hands, immense terror gripping the Cardinal at his looming, inevitable fate...

Meanwhile, elsewhere, in the Knight outpost of a place called Opal Town...

"My patrol shift is over, I-...," Remarked a Knight, as he stepped into the building.

"Tch, looks like the vermin is back."

"How sickening, I feel ill breathing the same air as this lowborn creature."

"I just can't accept this, to think that we have to share our space with a mere Commoner."

The Knight clenched his fists and gritted his teeth as he calmed himself, holding back from retaliating or snapping at them.

Nile Voner, one of the few Commoners in the Knight Order, and the only one in the Third Squad. He was in his early-thirties, with a shaved head, his eyes a gradient mix of green and blue, he had a short, thick, black beard, a dark complexion, and was absolutely towering in height, with a bulky, muscular build.

The Third Squad had recruited him into their ranks for the sole reason of appeasing the Commander, and they'd made no effort to hide how they feel about him, in an effort to drive him out of their squad.

Thanks to the Commander, he had managed to earn a promotion to Second-Class Knight, though his actual ability level was close to that of a Vice-Captain, which was made all the more remarkable by the fact that he was a pure Commoner, with no Noble blood.

As the other Knights in the outpost continued to jeer at him, he looked down at the floor and did his best to ignore them as he entered the building, before lifting his gaze as the other Knights suddenly went quiet.

He noticed their gazes focused behind him, before turning around towards the entrance, to see a hooded figure standing by the doorway.

"Excuse me, I'm sorry to bother you...but I need your help, I'm-...," Began the figure.

"Fuck off, Commoner! Go to the church if you're looking for some charity," Scoffed one of the Knights, the Vice-Captain of the Third Squad, Shrike Rowser.

He was in his late-twenties, with longish, straight dark brown hair with a thin goatee, dark brown eyes, a brown complexion, and he was on the taller side with a slender, lean build.

Nile clenched his fists, before approaching the hooded figure as he took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.

"Poor guy, he's probably wearing that cloak so that these bastards don't see his face and come after him just for showing up here...and the fact that he came here despite knowing that's a possibility likely means he's needs help with something urgent," Nile assumed sympathetically, before addressing the figure, "What's wrong? I'd be happy to help you with your problem, if it's within my ability to do so."

"Tch, hurry up and kick your fellow lowborn trash out...one Commoner is bad enough, having two of you creatures in our building will sully the air even further," Called out Shrike disdainfully, before adding as he noticed the hooded figure looking around the space while sniffing, "What the-...? Hah, are you a dog or something!? My, what fitting behavior for a Commoner, hahahaha!"

"Uh, are you okay?" Inquired Nile with a look of concern.

"Hey, Vice-Captain of the Third Squad, wanna know something interesting? The Mana of each Magic Class has its own unique scent...it's a very subtle difference, but if you figure out that distinction, you can tell the difference between different Magic Classes, and even identify which Magic Class a person has by the scent of their Mana," Remarked the hooded figure.

"Huh? The hell are you talking about, you gutter rat? Hah, seems you're on a few too many drugs, vermin...Mana doesn't have a scent," Scoffed Shrike in response.

"Yeah, a normal human sense of smell can't pick up the scent of Mana, so you wouldn't know. Speaking of things you don't know, despite being a Teleporter who holds the rank of Vice-Captain, you don't know how to cast Level 3 Spells, which means you can't use long-range teleportation," Stated the hooded figure tauntingly.

"What the hell...? What's this guy trying to do? Is he trying to get himself killed or something?" Nile thought to himself in bewilderment, getting concerned as he sensed the growing tension and hostility among the other Knights.

"The hell? You have a death wish or something? I'll fucking tear you apart, you son of a-...," Began Shrike with a venomous growl.

"Found you," The hooded figure smirked as he narrowed his eyes at one of the Knights, before he shot forward with immense speed, faster than the Knights could react before he closed in on his target, whose eyes widened in alarm.

The figure's right arm came shooting out of his cloak as he reached out, revealing a monstrous arm covered in black and purple scales, grabbing the Knight's throat and eliciting a choked gasp from him before crushing his throat, blood bursting out of his mouth as a loud crunch echoed out.

The Knight collapsed onto his knees with an agonizing, gurgling wheeze, before hitting the floor with a thud and writhing around excruciatingly as he rapidly bled out, clutching his crushed throat to try and stem the blood loss, but to no avail.

"You bastard...! Surround him and kill him!" Snarled Shrike, the other Knights springing into action in response as the one with the crushed throat went limp and slumped against the floor.

"Go ahead, I'll wipe you all out of existence...I'm Raven Kyzer of The Irregulars, but you might know me better as the Homunculus," He remarked as he pulled off his cloak and tossed in away, before unleashing his Aura before the Knights could attack him, a fiery glow surrounding his body.

"Wh-what...what the hell is this!?"

"H-he's a Monster!"

"I-I've never felt an Aura this strong before!"

"You should get out of here...you're not a target," Raven addressed Nile, who had a wide-eyed look on his face.

He quickly backed away towards the entrance of the building, before the fiery glow around Raven's body sharply intensified, right as a massive burst of purple flames erupted around Raven, cries of pain ringing out around his as the flames engulfed the Knights who had surrounded him, before rapidly spreading out across the space, setting the entire building ablaze in a matter of seconds...

Meanwhile, in the church in Opal Town...

"Alright, everyone who isn't an Inquisitor, you're going to want to leave if you don't want to die," Remarked Celia bluntly, as she stepped into the middle of the church, looking around as several Inquisitors dropped down and surrounded her.

"You must be one of The Irregulars, is that right? I sympathize with your situation, you've experienced unjust treatment, but this isn't the way to-...," Began the head of the church, Bishop Yute Sapphire, as he signaled to the Inquisitors to stand by and started to approach Celia.

He was in his early-sixties, with medium length, frizzy, grey hair that framed his face and thick sideburns, he had black eyes, and a dark complexion, with an average height and build.

"Don't bother, there's nothing you can say to change my mind. I know you're a righteous person who's worked hard to protect the people of this town from the impulses and whims of the Third Squad Knights...so I have no reason to kill you. So leave, along with the nuns here...otherwise, you'll all die for nothing," Celia interrupted him, her tone and gaze making it clear that she wasn't messing around.

"Get back, Father Sapphire, we need to eliminate her! You're in the way!"

"Do as she says and leave...we cannot guarantee your safety once we start fighting her!"

The Bishop clenched his fists in frustration before quietly leaving, the nuns in the church wasting no time in following after him.

"How nice of you to wait like this...I guess I'll be nice too. Get out of here if you don't want to die," She warned the Inquisitors.

"I'm afraid we'll have to decline!" Snapped one of the Inquisitors, drawing out a dagger and zipping forward and he unleashed a bolt of lighting at Celia.

"Yeah, I figured as much," She sighed, as she turned her body across to evade the lightning bolt, before swiftly reaching out and grabbing the Inquisitor's forearm as he drove the dagger towards her, stopping the thrust of his blade before it could reach him.

She tightened her grip around his arm before swiftly driving her knee up, striking his elbow and breaking it with a sharp crunch, eliciting a stifled cry of pain from him before she quickly pulled him across as a blast of water came shooting towards her, using him as a shield to block the blast, a sharp gasp ringing out as the attack collided against his back with a painful impact.

"Alright, then...time for all of you to die. If it's any consolation...this'll be over before you know it," Remarked Celia, as her entire body began glowing with an ominous, dark red hue, which rapidly brightened as she chanted, "[Explosion Zone]."
