Chapter 226: The Acquaintance Ball (2)
Kai felt like he entered the gates of heaven.
Not only because the hall was filled with people who looked like they belonged in a different tax bracket. Experience tales at empire
But also because most, if not all of them, were wearing white clothes.
His eyebrows raised in surprise, although it wasn't really obvious because of his obnoxiously long hair.
Then, he looked down at his red suit before bolting to the table meant for the Shizi Dogs. It was a good thing he saw Yuze right away because of his huge height, which spared him some shame.
As soon as he arrived at their table, Jet covered his mouth to stifle a chuckle.
Kai clicked his tongue and glared at him. "Don't even start. You never told me that there was going to be a dress code!"
"I didn't?" Jet asked. "I definitely did! I gave everybody a copy of the invitation."
"Well, you definitely didn't!" Kai deadpanned. "I didn't get the memo."
"Oh," Jay chuckled. "So, that's what I forgot!"
Kai facepalmed and sat next to him, wanting to be swallowed whole by the ground.
"I think I should just go home," Kai said, about to stand up when Kun held onto his shoulder and brought him to sit down once more.
"You look great!" he exclaimed. "Not only that, but you're like the main character in the room. In a sea of whites, you're the only red."
"Yeah," Jinping chuckled. "Like a menstruation stain on a woman's white pants."
Kai clicked his tongue. "Why, thank you for that analogy. I really needed it," he sarcastically said.
Jinping smiled at him. "You're welcome."
"It's alright. You still look good," Lina said, causing Kai to lift his head.
As soon as he saw her, it seemed like the world paused.
He was so preoccupied with his embarrassment that he didn't get to look at Lina closely.
Kai couldn't help but stand and match her height. Lina's eyes widened in surprise.
"Do...you need something?" she asked.
Kai cleared his throat before shaking his head. "Oh, nothing," he said, snapping back to reality.
"You just look really pretty," he muttered.
Lina's face heated up, so she quickly looked away. "Thanks," she also muttered.
Zeren quickly looked away from the scene and focused his gaze on something else.
Just then, the venue erupted into chaos as a new team arrived—the Yin Yang Knights.
Yuze's jaw clenched as soon as he saw the familiar team and their very familiar coach.
He shook his head. "He could have waited for me," he muttered.
Meanwhile, the people chattered among themselves as the Yin Yang Knights entered altogether.
"They were already here a while ago. Where did they go?"
"I think they talked about their strategies for the Interhigh Preliminaries."
"This early? It's a party! They should be having fun."
"Well, they're champions for a reason."
"Goodness," Jinping muttered as they continued walking down the path. "Their aura is completely different from the rest of the teams. How could that be when there are also other winning teams in here?"
"Well, they're the Yin Yang Knights," Jinping deadpanned. "What else can we expect from them?"
"Were they close to our table before?" Kun suddenly asked.
"Nah," Jet said. "They're sitting near the stage. They are a VIP team, after all."
Kun's frown deepened. "Huh, that's strange."
"Yeah, strange," Kai said.
"Because why are they heading in our direction?"
Truth be told, the Yin Yang Knights were walking in their direction. The Shizi Dogs didn't know how to react! Almost everyone at the party was already looking their way.
However, as the Yin Yang Knights arrived in the middle of the room, their other teammates dispersed and went to their respective table, making the Shizi Dogs sigh in relief.
Yet, even then, Max, Ailun, Fabin, and Fei continued to trudge toward their way, making the team confused.
"They're still coming here," Jinping remarked. "I think they want to talk to us."
Fabin couldn't help but frown as he gazed at the Shizi Dogs from afar.
"What are we even doing here?" he asked. "I don't want to go near the Shizi Dogs."
Ailun chuckled. "That's only because you were beaten by Kai in that shooting game."
Fabin clicked his tongue. "It was a moment of weakness! Anyway, let's just join Coach at our table—our very luxurious table with free drinks and some candles."
Max shook his head. "I want to talk to Kai."
Fabin sighed. "I swear—your fixation with Onion Boy is getting out of hand. He was also on your mind during our training camp!"
Fei frowned as soon as she heard what Fabin had said. Then, she focused her gaze on Kai—which wasn't very hard to do since he was the only one wearing a bright- colored suit in the room.
"What's so special about that guy?" she asked.
"You tell me," Ailun muttered. "I still don't know what Max sees in him."
Finally, they arrived at the Shizi Dogs' table, and they were immediately greeted by Kun and Jet.
"Sit, sit," Kun said, offering his seat to the Elite Five player.
"Thanks," Max said, taking the spot next to Kai. Jet also offered his spot for Ailun and Fabin. However, the two of them declined and talked among themselves.
Meanwhile, Fei immediately went to where Lina was standing, much to the latter's dismay.
The two of them shared fake smiles before conversing with each other.
On the other hand, Kun looked at Kai and Max, who were busy chuckling on the leather bench.
Then, he went closer to Jet and whispered. "If I rub my butt on the same spot that Max is sitting on, do you think I'll improve my basketball skills?"
Jet looked at him like he had gone crazy. However, not even a second later, Jet also whispered in Kun's ears.
"I think that'll work. Save me an unrubbed spot."
"Were you unaware of the dress code?" Max asked in a teasing tone, causing Kai to chuckle.
"Nope. That guy didn't inform me," he said, pointing at Jet.
"Well, the theme tonight is supposed to be for angels," Max said. "It seems like you brought a devil instead."
Kai shook his head. "Whatever. I'll just stay here in this very spot for the rest of the night."
"I'm actually glad that you stayed here," Max said, causing Kai to look at him with intrigue.
"Why?" Kai couldn't help but ask.
"I wanted to ask you something," Max continued.
Kai raised his eyebrows, silently signaling for him to continue.
Max smirked as he asked a new question.
"Do you want to join the Yin Yang Knights?"
