Chapter 79: Class Duel [Part-3]

Dapper stood frozen in place. He couldn't believe what he had just witnessed. It felt like he was looking at a completely different person, this wasn't the Shinro he once knew.

'How the hell did Shinro get so strong? I could follow his movements, but damn, he was fast. If I were in Ebat's shoes, I doubt I could've dodged that kick. And to think this all happened just weeks after he started training under Manor? He's left me in the dust. I seriously need to buckle up.' Dapper thought, clenching his fists in silent determination.

Suddenly, Shinro approached him, giving him a playful jab with a smug grin stretched across his face.

"How did I do?" he asked, flashing a wide, toothy smile.

"You did better than I expected," Dapper replied, forcing a smile of his own, still clearly stunned.

Just then, the machine flickered again, displaying the next two names.

"The next round is Romulus vs Ban," Old Man Manor announced.

A booming cheer erupted from Class B as a white-haired boy stepped forward. The girls were especially fired up, squealing and cheering with enthusiasm.

"That guy… he's ridiculously strong," Shinro muttered, then noticed Dapper's eyes were fixed on Romulus. That made him fall silent, focusing on the new duel.

Moments later, Ban, a slender young man roughly the same height as Romulus, stepped into the ring and stood opposite him.

"Hey, just surrender when the match starts. You don't stand a chance. I'm not really in the mood for all this drama," Romulus said, his expression weary and indifferent.

"You arrogant bastard! Who the hell do you think you are?!" Ban barked, clearly pissed off by Romulus' bluntness.

"The match begins now!"

As Manor's voice echoed, Romulus vanished, reappearing instantly beside Ban, his hands casually buried in his pockets.

Ban collapsed to the ground a heartbeat later, completely unconscious. The entire hall fell dead silent. Even Old Man Manor wore a look of surprise. His old eyes had seen exactly what happened.

'He knocked him out instantly… and without causing any visible harm. This boy… I thought he was just some cocky brat. But after seeing that, maybe I misjudged him.' Manor mused before snapping back to the present.

"T-The winner is Romulus Trikarstian!" Manor declared, his voice raised. Class B erupted into wild celebration.

As Romulus walked back to his spot, he glanced at Dapper with a smirk before turning away.

'That guy again… What's his deal with me? I couldn't even track his movement. And to think I once believed I stood a chance against him during the race. What a joke. He's on another level.' Dapper thought, clenching his fists tighter. For some reason, he had drawn Romulus' attention.

Dapper seemed like a mystery. On the outside, he looked solid and unshakable but something about him felt hollow, like he was strong only because he had to be. Maybe people were wrong about him… or maybe they were right. In truth, he wasn't powerful in the traditional sense, he just used every ounce of his brain and experience to appear that way.

'How the hell do I even explain that my only ability and talent is collecting women's panties?' Dapper thought, until something else caught his attention and snapped him out of it.

"The next round is Riley vs Monk!" Manor called out.

Riley made her way toward the ring, followed closely by a burly, bald-headed boy with thick prayer beads hanging around his neck. His towering figure made Riley look like a dwarf in comparison.

As they stood face to face, Monk's eyes remained shut, his hands tightly clasped together. The tension in his muscles was clear as his veins bulged visibly through his skin.

"Are you sure Riley can win this duel?" Shinro asked, concern etched in his voice.

"Now that you mention it, her staff was taken by that old man. I'm worried too, but there's nothing I can do. I'll just have to rush in and give her a potion once it's over," Dapper replied.

"The match begins now!" Manor's voice thundered across the arena.

In a flash, Riley pulled out a small wand about twelve inches long and pointed it at Monk.

"Ice Frost!" she shouted.

A burst of light fired from the tip of her wand and hit Monk squarely. Within seconds, the air around him dropped in temperature. Ice began to creep rapidly along his body and the surrounding ring. In less than a minute, Monk stood frozen solid, a complete ice statue.

Riley turned around, expecting Manor to declare her the winner but then she froze, startled by a loud sound.

*CRACK*

The thick ice encasing Monk began splitting apart rapidly. Within seconds, it shattered off his body entirely without even melting, the chunks remained solid as they hit the ground.

"H-How?" Riley gasped, stunned, as ice vapor hissed from Monk's skin and he slowly opened his eyes.

"Amithaba~" Monk murmured.

Then, behind him, a golden, colossal figure began materializing. It was massive, so tall its head nearly touched the top of the barrier enclosing the ring. But Monk shrank its size, compressing it to fit. It was his unique ability: the power to summon a corporeal form of the Buddha. The divine figure had over fifty arms, each connected to Monk's own hands by shimmering, spiritual threads. Its hands moved like extensions of his own limbs.

Without warning, one of the statue's arms swung down at blistering speed toward Riley.

"ICE WALL!" she bellowed, conjuring a thick shield of ice just in time. The massive hand smashed through the barrier, forcing Riley to duck and roll aside. Wasting no time, she raised her wand again and summoned several more ice walls in front of her.

The divine hands came crashing down one after another, shattering her defenses. But while her ice walls bought her seconds of protection, Riley used the moment to charge a spell. As the final wall broke, one hand of the statue was met by her glowing wand.

"Blast," she muttered.

*BOOOM!*

A deafening explosion rocked the arena, a shockwave so strong it trembled the entire facility. But even that force couldn't destroy the divine hands. Before Riley could react again, one of them struck her hard in the stomach.

"GAAAH!" she cried out in agony, her eyes bulging as her wand snapped from the impact. The blow sent her flying backward like a ragdoll. Her body bounced violently across the ring before slamming into the barrier and crumpling to the ground.

The crowd went dead silent, especially Dapper and Shinro. Their hopes had risen when they saw her wield a wand, but the moment it shattered, it was clear the fight was over.

Yet, before their eyes, Riley began to rise again. Her face was bloodied, and blood poured from the corner of her lips. Still, she stood.

"Just give up already, idiot… It's just a duel," Dapper muttered through gritted teeth, his fists clenched. Watching her suffer twisted something deep inside him, especially knowing she no longer had a weapon to fight with.
