Azur Lane: Savior

Chapter 72 – Countdown Before the Fall

Shortly after, the carrier arrived at NY Port as soon as she could. Enterprise wandered around to see the result of the destruction they have caused. First, it was Sakura Empire that ambushed them, now it was the Sirens. She silently clenched her fist in rage. Despite of that, she slowly sighed and went to her Commander to report her mission first.

Knocking the door, Enterprise entered the room with a small creak. Upon entering she saw that he was asleep. Saratoga who has been on the room this whole time silently gestured her to not be loud. Enterprise nodded and walked to her.

"Saratoga, im sorry i can't come sooner. If only our communication was not jammed..." She gave her the written report from her mission.

Saratoga shook her head. "It's okay, it's not your fault, Enterprise. Commander has managed to repel their attack in nick of time." She turned to Greynar. "He is tired right now after the battle, it may be the best if we don't disturb him right now."

"Yeah, let's talk outside." Enterprise opened the door silently as Saratoga grabbed a nearby blanket to wrap the sleeping human on the chair.

As soon after that, they went outside and walked through the corridor. "Anyway what did you want to report about?" Saratoga asked.

"That is the report i've written regarding our expedition on sea level 3 and level 4. It was very unusual Siren encounter, and lately they have been more and more active." She said.

Saratoga checked the files and nodded. "Right, i will send this thing to NY Command, and i hope we can get better news tomorrow."

"Thanks," she said. "Is Hornet okay by the way?" Enterprise asked in worry.

"She is okay, she was with Commander during the battle so it was a guaranteed safe." The petite girl answered with a wink.

"Is that so... Then i'm glad to entrust her to Commander." Enterprise looked below, as she remember about Yorktown. "I just... don't want to see my sisters to get hurt."

Saratoga wanted to say something but she kept silent, letting Enterprise alone with her thoughts. The girls arrived at the dockyard, broken vessels scattered around as it proved the relentless assault the Siren did to the harbor. Saratoga wore a sad expression on her face, it was a battle for survival of the harbor. For her, the Siren can't be forgiven as they have tried to destroy what they have build. And...

"Lexington..." Saratoga clenched her fist.

Her sister, Lexington was injured due to the ambush from the Siren. Lexington tried to thwart the Siren on the outer defense of NY Harbor. The result was pretty mixed, they manage to defense some part of it but the Sirens keep sending their reinforcement force and overpowered them in a minute. Lexington was unfortunately didn't survive the assault and she was in pretty bad shape, she is currently on the way to a place far from here and recuperating.

Enterprise noticed the sour mood on Saratoga's face, she gestured her to follow her to somewhere else.

On the way, Enterprise spoke first. "Sara, if you got concern, you can talk to me."

Saratoga looked at her and lowered her head. "The talk about your sister, it reminds me of today." She trailed behind Enterprise as the two of them going into the edge of a railing.

As she stood there, Enterprise turned to her and lowered her body. "I'm sorry for what happened to Lexington, just if i have come sooner—"

"No, it's okay, Enterprise," she wiped her tear off. "I already said it, it's not your fault. This is already happened and it was the Sirens fault, not yours."

"But—!"

Enterprise tried to retort but Saratoga placed a finger in front of her, asking her to stop. "No 'but' okay~ It's not your fault whether you like it or not."

Enterprise sighed and smiled. "If that's what makes you better then."

Enterprise got up and felt the breeze of the wind from the sea. The fight against the Siren that ambushed NY Harbor didn't end there, they still need to prepare for a counterattack, even they will need Greynar's command skill to fight them. The only left to decide was the NY Command announcement regarding the order to attack them. Enterprise was left alone as Saratoga got back inside the building to wake up the Commander.

The silver hair fluttering around resonating with the wind. "It looks like it's getting more windy than before." The girl looked at the orange sky above. "It's getting dark here, i better go back now."

The day of the strategic meeting  has arrived, everyone was eager to do a counterattack assault. Since Greynar was busy with the stuff Azur Lane's Command has given to him, he was busy and couldn't come to do the mission briefing. Enterprise was the one leading the planning, alongside with Saratoga and Victorious.

"Thank you all for your quick response to the meeting. Now, I will take over the commander's place to give you a mission briefing on this operation." Enterprise announced.

She begin to turned on the slide. "As everyone knows, a week ago, the main force of the Siren attacked NY Harbor." The projection showed  about the destruction it causes on the harbor. "During the time of the attack, many of us, including Cleveland and myself, were unable to come to the defense of the harbor due to jamming of our communication networks."

She looked around and confirmed everyone's face then continued. "Thanks to the hard work of the defending forces and the effective command of the commander, the casualties that could have been very heavy were avoided to the greatest extent possible. Given the status quo, the harsh reality is that we cannot deal with another potential large-scale attack from the Sirens."

The slide continued, "As such, the command has submitted a proposal - that we take the fight to the Sirens' forward base instead of waiting for our destruction. Commander has accepted this as our best plan of action."

There was a short murmur on the crowd but it soon calms down, Enterprise then pointed to the slider on the map. "We've determined that the most likely location for the Sirens' forward base is in the Bermuda Triangle. On the second day after the NY Harbor incident, the Azur Lane HQ observed that the originally calm Bermuda Triangle was suddenly covered by thick dark clouds." The slider shows the visual of the current location, a black cloud looming around creating a circle of giant dense tornado that no light could get pass through it. "Additionally, strong electromagnetic readings have been detected from that area, similar to when the "Winter's Crown" formed near the Northern Parliament." Enterprise glanced at Victorious as a sign for her to get ready to explain it. "Given what we know about the Winter's Crown, and the enormous manpower it took to suppress that situation, we can conclude that if a similar situation were to occur here, NY City would be in grave peril."

As soon she ended her brief plan, Victorious stood to the podium. " Ahem… Greetings, fellow Eagle Union warriors. I am from the Royal Glorious-class aircraft carrier, Victorious, also known as “Robin” by some of you. It is a great honor to fight alongside you all~" She glanced at everyone with a smile. "Although I had a lot of difficulties when I left my homeland and came to Eagle Union as a symbol of royal friendship, but thanks to the support of teacher Sarah and everyone—"

"Ahem... Victorious..." Enterprise reminded her.

"Ack! My apologies!" Victorious begin to fix herself and pointed at the slider. "Um, the Winter's Crown... The best way to describe it is as an area of anomalous weather, similar to the Mirror Seas. I first encountered one during an operation in the north. Even from a distance, we experienced significant electromagnetic disruption to our communications equipment. About half our fleet lost radio contact temporarily, and a variety of other electronic equipment was also affected."

She summoned her rigging and begin to presented what happened. "In this situation, aiming, attacking, and other actions will become very difficult, and the only thing you can rely on is rich practical experience. We attempted to conduct reconnaissance operations inside the Crown, but we would lose our seaplanes as soon as they entered, as if they were getting absorbed the expanding cloud."

After that she went silent before giving more information. "We have sent out probes to conduct experiments several times, but without exception, we have lost the signal and have not even seen the wreckage. So no matter what, the Siren fleet that is creating the singularity must be destroyed before it is fully formed."

Victorious handled the meeting back again to Enterprise. The meeting was very brief and was a race against time. Enterprise explained that if they destroy the core, they will stop them from completing the singularity and create a disastrous phenomenon. Fleets from different task led by Essex and Baltimore participating in a separate location from Enterprise's force. Due to the strong electromagnetic, Greynar also required to participate in the battle leading the shipgirls directly on the frontline.

After the strategic meeting finished, Greynar finished his task at the same time Enterprise and Saratoga got to his room to give the summary of the meeting. He then checked the details as soon they handed it to him.

"Operation Somers? A fancy name, is it your idea, Enterprise?" He glanced at the girls with an eye full of curiosity.

"Yes, it was the name referencing one of our base location in bermuda." She affirmed it.

'Somers Island base... One of the main location in the original timeline.' He thought about it as he looked at the summary of the notes.

After he finished reading it, he got up from his chair and picked up his uniform. "Let's go. Call every fleets to prepare," he grabbed the door handle as he venture out from his room. "Tell them to sail right away when the clock hit the time. It's time to begin our counterattack against the Sirens."
