Awakening: My Yandere sister is obsessed with me

Chapter 62: Preparation

The night stretched long and silent around Yuki, each ticking moment of the grandfather clock in the living room amplifying the tumultuous battle within her mind.

Haruto's words, and the impossible proposition he'd laid before her, echoed relentlessly. Kakusei Academy. A government institution, the symbol of the authority her father had fought against, the entity she herself sought to defy.

Pride warred with pragmatism. Her father's memory, his last defiant stand against the encroaching shadow of the Council and the factions that had betrayed him, fueled a burning need for vengeance within her.

To abandon that pursuit, even for a moment, felt like a betrayal of his legacy. But what good was vengeance if she was eliminated before she could even begin? The thought was a bitter pill, yet she forced herself to swallow it.

"What is a little pride," she mused, her gaze fixed on the moonlit ceiling, "compared to the monumental task of avenging my father and destroying those who wronged him?" She had to survive.

She had to become stronger. And in her current predicament, hunted by both the remnants of her father's enemies and the relentless agents of the Council, remaining hidden was paramount.

If Kakusei Academy offered even a temporary reprieve, a chance to refine her burgeoning abilities without constant fear for her life, then perhaps the sacrifice of her self-respect was a small price to pay.

She ran through the scenarios in her mind. If she didn't accept Haruto's offer, what then? More nights spent in shadows, more days looking over her shoulder, a constant target.

It was a life she had become accustomed to, but one that offered little chance of achieving her ultimate goal.

And if the academy proved to be a trap, what had she truly lost? She was already a ghost, her past a burden, her future uncertain. The risks, while significant, were perhaps outweighed by the potential rewards.

By the time the first rays of dawn painted the sky in hues of rose and gold, Yuki's decision was made. It was not born of eagerness, but of cold, calculating necessity. She would play their game, for now.

The next morning, the air crackled with a different kind of tension. Haruto, his usual demeanor tinged with an underlying excitement, led Yuki towards Sakura High School.

Yuki walked beside him, her presence an undeniable magnet for attention. Her silvery hair shimmered in the sunlight, and her eyes, though still guarded, held an alluring depth. She moved with an innate grace, a quiet power that drew stares even from a distance

Whispers rippled through the student body as they approached the school gates. "Hey, isn't that Haruto?"

"Oh my god, he's with another girl!"

"Who is she? She's... almost as pretty as the previous girl!"

Envy, thick and palpable, hung in the air, radiating from the throngs of students who watched the duo with a mixture of fascination and fierce jealousy.

Haruto, seemingly oblivious to the hushed murmurs, offered Yuki a reassuring smile.

High above, perched on the rooftop, a solitary figure observed their arrival. Kazuma, his lean frame silhouetted against the bright sky, felt a distinct chill, a subtle tremor in the air that spoke of potent energy.

His eyes narrowed on Yuki. "That cold aura… the latent power vibrating around her…" he thought, a thrill of recognition shooting through him. "She's an awakened one too. A powerful one. Perhaps even stronger than Ryouta!"

This kind of temperament was both familiar and strange, as if he had seen it somewhere before...

The thought sent a jolt of both intrigue and caution through him. He knew the signs, the unique signatures of those who had awakened their dormant abilities.

Haruto, even from the ground, seemed to sense Kazuma's scrutiny. His gaze flickered upwards, meeting Kazuma's for a fleeting moment. A flicker of concern crossed Haruto's face.

He was acutely aware of Kazuma's affiliation with Black Serpent.

"Does he recognize her?" he wondered, a knot forming in his stomach. The last thing they needed was for Yuki's identity to be compromised so soon.

Later that day, the clandestine summons arrived. Haruto, Yuki, Jun, Miki were directed to the hidden room, the very same chamber where Tanaka had met with Satsuki. The atmosphere within was charged with a mix of anticipation and unspoken questions.

Tanaka stood before them, her usual serene expression tinged with a rare, almost mischievous smile. Her gaze swept over the three, settling on each of them for a moment.

"Are the three of you ready?" she asked, her voice clear and resonant.

Jun, ever the outspoken one, his brow furrowed in confusion, gestured towards Miki. "She will join too?"

Tanaka's smile deepened, a glint of amusement in her eyes. "Miki is an operative," she explained, her gaze still fixed on the new arrival. "Meaning, she has been trained since childhood for these very circumstances."

Yuki's eyes widened almost imperceptibly. An operative? That normal girl was trained since childhood? She couldn't believe that this small, ordinary girl was actually an undercover government agent, and had been trained since childhood. What made her suspicious was that she didn't notice Miki's unusual aura from the beginning.

The revelation was a surprise. She subtly shifted her weight, her gaze drifting towards Miki, studying her.

Miki was a blur of efficiency, her posture perfectly aligned, her face a serene mask. Her clothes, while appearing casual, seemed to subtly conceal something beneath.

Yuki, accustomed to reading people, tried to glean information from Miki's composure, her subtle movements.

Miki, sensing Yuki's scrutiny, met her gaze head-on. Her eyes, dark and intelligent, held a quiet intensity, returning Yuki's assessment with an equally penetrating gaze.

A silent, unspoken exchange passed between them, two individuals accustomed to discerning secrets and evaluating threats.

Each, in their own way, was attempting to decipher the other's true origins, their hidden capabilities, and the role they were destined to play in the unfolding drama.

The air in the secret room thickened, charged with the unspoken questions and the burgeoning understanding of new, powerful alliances.
