Awakening: My Yandere sister is obsessed with me

Chapter 58: Kakusei Admission

Haruto gently carried Yuki into his bedroom, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting a warm, reassuring light on her pale face. He carefully laid her down on the pristine white sheets of his bed, the sight of her small, bruised form a stark contrast to the usual order of his sanctuary.

With a practiced hand, he retrieved his first-aid kit, a well-stocked box that had seen its fair share of minor injuries from his own occasional skirmishes.

He began the meticulous process of cleaning her wounds, his movements tender and deliberate, wiping away the dried blood, applying antiseptic, and finally, carefully bandaging the cuts and scrapes that marred her delicate skin.

Satsuki watched from the doorway, a silent, unmoving observer. Her gaze, initially filled with concern for Yuki, slowly shifted, a subtle darkening in her usually serene eyes.

A peculiar, unsettling sensation began to prickle at her, a bitter taste rising in her throat. She saw the gentle touch of his fingers, the unwavering focus in his eyes, the almost reverent care he showed towards the unconscious girl.

It was a level of attentiveness, a depth of concern, that Haruto had never quite shown her, not in this way. A wave of an almost irrational jealousy washed over her, hot and undeniable.

Had he ever tended to her scraped knee with such delicate precision? Had he ever looked at her with such singular, devoted purpose? The unfairness of it, the childish sting of being overlooked, burned fiercely within her.

She knew it was illogical, knew that Yuki was injured and in need, but the feeling persisted, a tiny, venomous seed of resentment taking root.

Haruto, sensing the shift in her aura, the subtle change in her breathing, looked up. He saw the subtle hardening around her mouth, the slight tremor in her lower lip, the unspoken accusation in her averted gaze.

He knew Satsuki well enough to recognize the signs, to understand the complex emotions warring within her. Reaching out, he gently pulled her towards him, wrapping his free arm around her waist.

He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, then moved his lips to hers, a tender, reassuring gesture that spoke volumes. "Don't worry about it, Satsuki," he murmured against her mouth, his voice low and soothing. "It's nothing. She just needs help."

Satsuki leaned into his embrace, her cheeks flushing a delicate rose. The warmth of his body, the gentle pressure of his lips, slowly began to melt away the ice of her unreasonable jealousy.

She melted into his arms, her head resting against his shoulder, a silent acknowledgment of his affection. His words, simple yet sincere, were enough to mollify her, to bring a fragile peace to her troubled heart.

The next morning, the first rays of dawn were just peeking over the horizon when Haruto slipped out of the house. He knew he had to act fast. Yuki's predicament wasn't something he could handle alone, not with the powerful forces arrayed against her. His destination was the school, not for classes, but for a clandestine meeting with Miki.

He found Miki in the deserted student council office, already poring over documents, her usual diligent self. Her head snapped up as he entered, a flicker of surprise in her eyes at his early, unannounced appearance.

"Haruto? What are you doing here so early?" she asked, her voice hushed.

Haruto wasted no time on pleasantries. He launched straight into it, recounting Yuki's arrival, the Red Serpent, and the terrifying threat hanging over her head. He spoke quickly, concisely, relaying the bare facts with an urgency that conveyed the gravity of the situation.

Miki listened, her expression shifting from surprise to shock, her eyes widening with each new revelation. When Haruto finished, she sat in stunned silence for a moment, the usual organized calm of her demeanor completely shattered. "The Black Serpent… and your friend?" she breathed, the names barely a whisper. "This is… incredible. I'll have to inform Tanaka-sensei immediately."

Haruto hesitated, his gaze fixed on a distant point beyond the window. A new thought, a desperate idea, had begun to solidify in his mind. "Miki," he began, his voice dropping slightly, "about the Kakusei Academy… Is it true that it trains Awakened individuals?"

Miki blinked, surprised by the sudden shift in topic. "Yes, of course," she confirmed, a hint of confusion in her voice. "That's its primary purpose. Why do you ask?"

Haruto clenched his fists, a fierce resolve hardening his features. He knew the risks, the dangers, but the image of Yuki's helpless face, the chilling threat to her very existence, spurred him on. "I… I want to be trained," he stated, his voice firm, unwavering. "I want to join the Academy. I want to learn how to use whatever power I have. At least… to protect Yuki."

Miki stared at him, her expression a mix of disbelief and a dawning understanding. Haruto, who had always seemed to navigate the fringes of the supernatural world with a detached efficiency, was now asking to fully immerse himself in it, to become a part of something far grander and more dangerous. Her silence stretched, a heavy weight in the room, as she processed his request.

Finally, she nodded, a determined gleam in her eyes. "Alright, Haruto. I understand." She stood up, gathered her papers, and with a swift, decisive movement, headed directly for Tanaka-sensei's office.

She found Tanaka-sensei already at her desk, engrossed in a thick tome, her glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. Miki wasted no time, launching into a detailed account of everything Haruto had told her, from Yuki's desperate arrival to Haruto's fervent desire to join the Kakusei Academy.

Tanaka-sensei listened, her usual calm demeanor unwavering. She set aside her book, her expression thoughtful, a subtle knowing glimmer in her deep-set eyes.

A long silence followed Miki's explanation, filled only by the soft hum of the air conditioning. Tanaka-sensei leaned back in her chair, her fingers steepled under her chin, her gaze distant, as if seeing beyond the present moment.

"Haruto wants to join the Academy, you say?" Tanaka-sensei finally mused, her voice a low, almost meditative hum. "Very well. In that case, we should extend an invitation to Jun as well."

Miki gasped, her eyes widening in genuine astonishment. "Jun?! But… sensei, not everyone who awakens their powers is chosen for the Academy! The selection process is incredibly rigorous!"

She knew the criteria, the careful evaluation of potential, the subtle nuances that set true candidates apart. Jun, while undeniably powerful, didn't fit the typical mold of a Kakusei recruit.

Tanaka-sensei offered a faint, enigmatic smile, a knowing glint in her eyes that seemed to pierce through Miki's skepticism. "Indeed. But sometimes, potential isn't always apparent on the surface, Miki. Sometimes, it takes a certain eye to see the depth beneath."

She paused, her gaze distant once more. "Jun has awakened his own supernatural abilities, and his potential, though perhaps different from Haruto's, is undeniable. He will be a valuable asset."

Miki could only stare, a profound sense of awe washing over her. She realized, with a sudden clarity, that Tanaka-sensei possessed an insight, a foresight, that far surpassed her own.

The teacher had seen something in Jun, a hidden power or a unique talent, that she, for all her sharp intellect, had completely overlooked. The pieces of their intricate world, the hidden threads of power and destiny, were slowly beginning to align, orchestrated by hands unseen, or perhaps, by Tanaka-sensei herself.
