Awakening: I Became a Legendary Spirit Summoner

Chapter 62: Testing New Perks, Evolution Path

Currently, Karl had 14 summons at his disposal in the [Spirit Cemetery].

Each one was unique, with its own strengths and abilities, and Karl knew most of them intimately.

The list of his spirits included:

[Summons: Frenzied Rabbit (Frappy), Alpha Dire Wolf, Alpha Whip Wolf, Nature Wolf, Dire Fox, Shadow Golem, Sovereign Wolf (Sovaryn), Golem Warrior, Elite Lizard Soldier, Shadow Assassin Lizard, Infested Skeleton, Ghoul Zombie, Frosted Mantis]

Out of these, the only one Karl hadn't used much was the [Infested Skeleton].

It had been sitting in the cemetery, waiting for its moment to shine.

But for now, Karl's focus was on testing his new abilities: [Evolution Path] and [Spirit Fusion].

These abilities were the key to making his spirits even stronger, and he couldn't wait to see what they could do.

First, he decided to test [Evolution Path].

The ability allowed him to view potential evolution paths for his spirits, some of which required specific conditions, items, or situations to trigger.

Karl approached the [Alpha Dire Wolf], one of his oldest and most loyal spirits.

The wolf immediately responded, sensing its master's intent even without a word being spoken.

The [Alpha Dire Wolf] had been with Karl since the [Novice Trial], one of the first spirits he had ever summoned.

Despite its humble beginnings, it had proven itself time and time again, surviving battles and saving Karl's life on more than one occasion.

It was a testament to the fact that even spirits born from weak combinations could grow into formidable allies if given the chance.

Karl felt a deep connection to the wolf, and he wanted—no, he needed—it to grow even stronger.

He couldn't afford to lose it.

Crouching down, Karl placed his hand on the [Alpha Dire Wolf]'s head, his palm glowing with a soft light.

He closed his eyes, letting the flow of aura swirl around them as he activated the ability.

"Evolution Path," he whispered.

The moment the ability activated, a surge of energy coursed through Karl's body, flowing into the [Alpha Dire Wolf].

A translucent interface appeared in his vision, listing the possible evolutions for the spirit:

[Evolution Paths: Alpha Dire Wolf]

[1. Dire Wolf King – Requires [Dire Wolf Essence] x10, Level 35+]

[2. Shadowfang Wolf – Requires [Shadow Core] x3, Level 35+]

[3. Spirit Guardian Wolf (SPECIAL) – Requires [Spirit's Blessing], Level 40+, and a high bond with its master.]

Karl's eyes widened as he studied the options.

Each evolution had incredible potential, but they all required rare items or specific conditions.

The [Dire Wolf King] and [Shadowfang Wolf] both needed materials that Karl didn't currently have, while the [Spirit Guardian Wolf] required a high bond with its master and a special item called [Spirit's Blessing].

Karl clenched his fist, feeling a mix of excitement and frustration.

He wanted to evolve the wolf now, but he knew it would take time and effort to gather the necessary resources.

Still, the possibilities were thrilling.

The [Spirit Guardian Wolf] in particular caught his attention.

It seemed like a special evolution, one that would require not just items but also a deep connection between Karl and the wolf.

That was something Karl could work on.

For now, though, he decided to check the evolution paths of another spirit.

The next spirit he chose was the [Frenzied Rabbit], or Frappy, as Celeste liked to call it.

The rabbit was one of Celeste's favorites, and while Karl was more neutral about it, he didn't want it to die either.

It had been with him since the beginning, and it had proven its worth during the third trial of the [Entrance Examination] by copying Karl's movements and helping him secure victory.

Karl crouched down again, placing his hand on the rabbit's head.

"Evolution Path," he said, activating the ability once more.

The aura swirled around them, and a new interface appeared before his eyes:

[Evolution Paths: Frenzied Rabbit]

[1. Frenzied Hare – Requires [Swift Essence] x5, Level 30+]

[2. Bloodfang Rabbit – Requires [Blood Core] x2, Level 35+]

[3. Phantom Moon Bunny (SPECIAL) – Condition: Must evolve under a full moon while the summoner is in critical condition, Level 40+]

Karl's eyes narrowed as he read the third option.

A conditional evolution—this was exactly the kind of situation-based trigger his ability had hinted at.

The [Phantom Moon Bunny] sounded like a powerful evolution, but it would require precise timing and a dangerous situation.

Karl made a mental note of it, knowing it could be a game-changer in the future.

[Do note that as your level increases, more evolution paths may open up.]

[Though as you guessed, you cannot evolve anything as of now, since your level is too low.]

"Yeah," Karl muttered, nodding.

He had noticed that the minimum level for his summons to evolve was 30, and he wasn't there yet.

Still, it was good to know what he was working toward.

He spent a few more minutes checking the evolution paths of his other spirits, each one offering unique and intriguing possibilities.

Some required rare items, while others had risky conditions like [Feed 5L of the master's blood under a Blood Moon] or [Cut spirit's head, then use an item with a 20% chance of awakening special evolution].

It was a lot to take in, but Karl couldn't help feeling excited about the potential.

However, he didn't want to spend hours reading through every possible evolution path right now.

Celeste was waiting for him in the real world, and he had more to test.

So, he moved on to his second ability: [Spirit Fusion].

[Combine two compatible spirits to create a new, stronger entity with traits of both.]

This ability was more straightforward, and Karl decided to test it immediately.

He pointed at the [Alpha Whip Wolf] and the [Nature Wolf], two spirits that had also survived since the [Novice Trial].

They hadn't seen much action lately, as Karl had stronger spirits at his disposal.

But maybe, by fusing them, he could create something powerful enough to be useful.

The two wolves approached obediently, sitting in front of Karl and waiting for his command.

He smiled lightly, extending his arms and placing a hand on each of their heads.

Then, he activated [Spirit Fusion].

The first thing that happened was a simple panel appearing in his vision:

[These two spirits are compatible.]

'As I thought,' Karl mumbled to himself.

The wolves were similar in nature, so it made sense that they could be fused.

But wanting to fully understand the limits of his ability, Karl decided to test it further.

He called over the [Shadow Golem], a massive spirit made of dark, shadowy stone.

Placing one hand on the golem and keeping the other on the [Alpha Whip Wolf], he activated [Spirit Fusion] again.

This time, a red panel appeared:

[These spirits are not compatible, do not try to fuse them.]

"Alright, I get it," Karl said with a grin.

"It's truly about origin and combination, as well as how well their powers and abilities synergize."

With that knowledge now clear, Karl dismissed the [Shadow Golem] and returned his focus to the two wolves.

He was ready to perform the fusion for real this time.

Ding!

[You are about to fuse "Alpha Whip Wolf" and "Nature Wolf".]

[The spirit you will get is currently unknown, do you want to proceed?]

'Weird that it specified that it's unknown,' Karl thought.

'Maybe later I'll be able to see the result before even doing it. But oh well.'

For now, he was focused on the present.

He wanted to see what this fusion could do, and he was eager to find out.

With a deep breath, Karl activated the transformation.

"Show me what you can do, my spirits," he said, a wide smile spreading across his face.
