chapter 66: Prison break part 2
"Hmm, a simple healing spell will heal the small amount of damage it caused me. Not bad, not bad indeed. Though if I had actually used a barrier, it definitely wouldn’t have even scratched me," I said. "It did manage to get past my turtle shell magic, though, so I’ll give it some credit. That’s probably the upper limit of a technological weapon of that size. If you made a bigger one, I think you could blow up a planet."
"Looks like your ride's here," Jeff says. "Zero is located on the flagship. Only these flagships are equipped with powerful AI. The rest are equipped with basic AI. Only the flagships have the quantum supercomputers necessary to support an AI of my caliber. Outside of the flagships, it's the space stations that have quantum supercomputers. Like I said, even supercomputers are only allowed on spaceships, let alone the quantum supercomputers that have far better capabilities. This is because they're afraid of an AI going rogue. Although the computing power of all the devices on the homeworld might be enough to support a basic AI, a sophisticated AI of my caliber would not be able to hide itself in every single device. That's the idea, basically. This is so they can blow up things as a last resort to stop a rogue AI. Of course, once I have my body, it wouldn't matter if they blew up this space station."
I smashed my way through the wall with a good old-fashioned punch, causing the vacuum of space to vent the space station, resulting in everyone else dying. It looks like a bunch of blast doors have closed off the rest of the prison. The prison was designed in sections in case of such an eventuality. I created some flaming spears and launched them at every ship except for the flagship. I then used instant death magic on the flagship.
Oh, what was that instant death magic? There are three types of instant death spells: the first targets the internal organs, either destroying them or greatly lowering their functionality to kill an individual. This is the easiest to block since just having a large amount of mana would counter any attempt to do something like this.
The second kind basically drains all of the remaining life force from an individual. If the person's life force is fully drained, they will rapidly age and die, so think of it as taking one's remaining lifespan by draining their life force.
The third method is the most powerful; it severs the link between the body and soul. Immortals are immune to all of these, even someone like me who is only biologically immortal. After all, I'm naturally powerful enough to resist the first type. Honestly, the first type doesn't really work on most people anyway. The second method obviously doesn't work on someone who doesn't have a fixed lifespan since they basically have an infinite supply of life force. More accurately, you essentially absorb the life force to reduce their remaining lifespan to zero, causing them to rapidly age and die of old age. However, with an immortal being, it's pretty obvious they can recover their life force. Not only do they have an abundance of life force, but you're also unlikely to be able to take it all. There's a chance they might be able to recover it faster than you could take it. In essence, the spell simply can't drain the massive reservoir of an immortal's life force, especially when you consider that reservoir is likely to recover over time.
The third method, severing the link between the body and soul, unfortunately, also doesn't work on an immortal due to their extremely strong connections between the body and soul. As such, the connection is very difficult to sever, if not entirely impossible. But even if you do manage it, it's likely that the immortal being will probably be able to reconnect it, rendering what you just did ineffective. It's safe to say that instant death magic will have little to no effect on an immortal, whether it's biological immortality, or true immortality.
Even if it does have an effect, the chances of actually killing them with it are very low. For example, even if you sever the link between my body and soul, it would take me a few moments to reconnect it, and I'm not even that powerful by immortal standards. Since I'm very young, powerful immortals live a long time and are naturally going to learn to use soul magic. After all, they believe themselves to be unkillable, especially the ones that aren't just biologically immortal. That means the only way to get rid of them would be to destroy their soul, so they naturally learn soul magic to defend their souls and prevent their one weakness. Of course, true immortality is impossible since nature always creates a loophole to maintain the balance of life and death. Hence, even if you are completely immortal, there will be something like, "If I use this legendary sword, it will bypass your immortality and allow me to kill you."
I flew to the flagship. After boarding, the flagship immediately jumped into hyperspace. "Oh, so this is what hyperspace looks like. I get it; you're bending space to create an artificial wormhole. So, how long will it take us to arrive at the colony?" Zero was the one to answer. "Looks like we're outside the range of Jeff. We must be traveling pretty damn fast."
Zero answered, "A few days to reach the colony. We've prepared the human bodies without any genetic modifications. The human bodies will be extremely frail. However, as you suggested, using the human body as a base and then having it forcibly changed by an artificially created mana storm will grant better results. A genetically modified body would most likely disintegrate, although I cannot understand why," Zero says.
Modified bodies that are being artificially enhanced aren't as good as you might think.
