Avatar: Mage of All Elements

Chapter 52: Chapter 52

During these few days before the attack, we rested and talked. Everyone had something to say. And even though I was an outsider in a way, it didn't stop me from talking to everyone normally. What bothered me the most was that Toph never left my side. It was cute, but I didn't like it.

I mean, think about her mother. She used to rub up against me too. How did that turn out? That's right! But it's too early for that, so let her be around me for now. I don't mind.

But the day of the attack came, and with the morning mist, the ships approached. Katara realized immediately that they were the Waterbenders in disguise. The ships were filled with all the Avatars they had met on their journey.

There were enough of them to storm the palace. There was no time for delay, no hurry. Everything was calculated in advance, and so everyone was loaded onto the submarines without much haste. To be honest, I was shocked when I saw them.

The funny thing is that they had the same principle of motion as my car. The traction force was water mag, but due to its large size and mass, it couldn't reach high speed. But there is a lot of air inside and you can stay underwater longer.

I was with Toph and she held my hand the whole time we were floating. But you have to remember she's just a little girl. Soon we came to a large gate that closed as we approached. Only it was an afterthought, and we ducked low and punched through the blocked passage with torpedoes. Torpedoes, Carl! My brain nearly exploded at the thought. Submarine, torpedoes, now what? Planes?

After the obstacle was blown up, we swam calmly through it and surfaced somewhere in the middle, between the shore and the bridge, to replenish our air supply.

«Do you want to go outside?» I asked Toph.

«No, since nothing's going to change anyway», she shrugged. And she wasn't being brave, she was telling it like it was.

«Suit yourself», I ruffled her hair. Or rather, tried to. She was dressed in the military uniform of the warriors of the land, and it came with a hat to protect her head. I was dressed the same way, except I had a lot of metal inserts.

About fifteen minutes later, when the air was replenished, we were submerged again. We were on top of the submarine where the windows were. Now we should go to the landing bay. Airborne. Bay. It's brutal.

I'm a little afraid of what it's going to be like in fifty or a hundred years, with all this technology. Will they go into space? I shrugged at the thought. No way. I didn't have such desires in that life, and even less so in this one.

But when I got to the right compartment, I didn't notice how time flew and we got the signal to attack. The compartment opened and we ran out. The tanks came right behind us. And the time to think immediately disappeared. It was replaced by the excitement of the battle. The climax of the whole war will be decided today!

I jumped out of the submarine and sent a pulse to the scout. About a thousand men. A lot more than we have, but there's still time for a breakthrough, and the eclipse is just around the corner. And then I went into overdrive. Every move I made was an attack. I didn't worry about myself because I was covered by our tanks. It was especially interesting to destroy enemy vehicles. There was no holding back. Then, after gathering strength in the momentum, I threw myself in front of our troops and sent a wave of earth forward when I landed.

I exaggerated a bit, because everything up to the stairs of the palace was either destroyed, thrown away, or crushed into the ground. Seeing this, the entire battle stopped for a moment and many people turned their attention to me. To see me tearing up the tank with my bare hands and putting the torn pieces of metal on me, over my clothes, to make metal armor, because I was still vulnerable to arrows. In a few seconds I was wearing full metal armor and the battle continued.

The most dangerous thing now were the towers firing from above. I signaled an impulse to Toph, I took the right side and she took the left.

Run to the spot underneath the tower. Send a pulse and lower the tower to the ground. A slight flick of my arm and a blade flies out from under the armor, cutting the rope on the crossbow. Run to the next one and repeat the process. Seven times in all.

Six on my side and one on Toph's. The passage was cleared and the eclipse was only a few minutes away. I ran to the center of our group, to Soka. He was the commander now.

«What's next?» I asked. Besides, the sight of me was suggestive. When I heard a strange sound, I turned around and saw Toph repeating after me, only her armor was much thinner. Four times thinner.

«Let's continue as planned. Me, Aang and Toph on Appa and into the palace. You clear a path for everyone else to get there.»

«Okay. Should I start now or wait for the eclipse?»

«Uh. If you pull it, you can do it now», he said, looking at the aftermath of my magic, «But if you're not sure, it's best to wait.»

«I'm sure», I nodded, «Gather everyone, I'll organize a breakthrough now», he just nodded.

Of course, we could go the normal way, but that would take a long time. The road was very winding. And it was quite long. So what? We should make our own!

«Toph, follow me», I called as I ran past her, «You can help!»

«But I have to fly with the Avatar!» she yelled at me, but ran after me anyway.

«It won't be for long!» I replied with a smile.

Still, even when I was at war, I had to hold back. The thing was, I realized that humans were afraid of what they didn't understand. And my full power, far beyond their understanding. My body can't quite handle the full force of my magic. That's why I started experimenting with body enhancements.

Specifically so that I could withstand the full power of my own magic. And while I've made some progress, I'm still a long way from my ultimate goal. But what I have is enough to be amazing. And that's what I'm doing.

I ran to the beginning of the stairs that wound their way up to the top of the volcano where the palace was, and it took me about ten seconds to calculate everything. Toph was beside me.

«Can you pull a slab like that?» I asked her, the momentum separating a decent chunk of ground. Ten meters by five. Give or take a few meters.

«Not alone», she replied quickly.

«I'll set the impulse, you just maintain its direction», I explained the details to her.

«No problem then», she nodded.
