After I had beaten up Moriarty's soul for calling me an old man, we sat down leaning against the bookshelves on opposite sides, far from the landing space.
"... Can you promise me one thing?" Moriarty spoke hesitantly; although souls feel no physical pain, he could tell that I was still slightly angry by my expression.
"I will decide after hearing you out," I answered, calming down a little.
"When we... You know get out of Central City... Don't kill anyone," Moriarty stated in a serious tone, straightening his posture.
"... What did you just say?" I asked back, thinking that I heard him wrong.
"I meant it. Leave the killing part to me," Moriarty replied; his voice didn't falter even slightly, which meant that he wasn't joking.
"Did you receive some brain damage when I beat up your soul or..?" I asked, a little stunned by his statement.
"That didn't happen; I know what I am saying.
"You know, being the bad guy isn't easy... I fully understand that... In a world like this, where trust is fragile even among those closest to you, your survival is constantly hanging by a thread.... If you're not ready to take a life, then you might as well be signing your death sentence.
"But it's not as easy as others seem to think... It's suffocating... The world you come from stands as living proof of that. You might not understand what I'm trying to say because, right now, you lack the emotions to feel it... But once you develop them, you'll understand what I mean.
"I have already taken a life. I can't undo it, no matter how much I try, and if I find myself in that situation again, I will have to make the same mistake again. My soul is already tainted by the nature of this world... I don't have anywhere to go back to.
"But you... You possess a pure soul, one that's so precious in this god-for-shaken world. You just don't know how many people would die, trying to earn that. So, please, stay true to yourself." Moriarty finished his speech while looking at the ceiling.
That was the same as telling me to live the life he could only wish to live. I guess that wasn't an easy task... However, it did make me wonder what it feels like to live a life like that in a world where you have to kill others to survive.
"That's not something hard to follow; we are already living two lives at once; sometimes, when I am driving the vessel, you can feel guilt-free. That is a good way to rest your mind," I answered, agreeing to his proposal.
Kindness, I guess it's a chance to understand that. Why do kind people exist in a world where kindness is like a poison to them? I want to find out.

It was six in the morning when I got ready for today's event; although the Awakening Ceremony starts at twelve, Uncle said that we had to go there early to meet up with the rest of the Family heads and Alliance heads.
The question was, what was I supposed to do by being present in their meeting?
This meeting didn't happen in the original story, I guess it's because Thomas went to war against the Assassin's Syndicate straight on from the moment of Moriarty's death at that time. However, this time, I survived, which didn't anger him that much, and he controlled himself from attacking them head-on, which planted a seed of doubt in the hearts of the Family heads and Alliance heads about what his next move would be.
If he decides to go to war, then he, as well as the Allen Family, who were ruled out as the rulers of a free nation, will have to follow the rules set by the World Government.
But since we are still counted as one of the Five Major Families, we will not fall under their direct jurisdiction and be exempted from some rules.
Today's meeting will decide the faith of the whole Allen family... I hope uncle can control his anger.
I wore a black, impeccably tailored three-piece suit made of high-quality cashmere with a white shirt on the inside, a jacket that had a sharp, structured cut with peak lapels and a single button closure. The waistcoat was also black, with a straight bottom hem and five buttons. The trousers were slim-fit with a clean crease down the front, completing the refined and formal look.
"I love the suit," I said, looking at Ryuk.
"I never understood why humans adored their tailors so much but now I can guess... That is a good suit," Ryuk replied, appreciating the exquisite design of my suit.
KNOCK KNOCK
"Young master, if you are ready, then please come with me; Master Thomas is waiting at the front gate," Alfred said from the other side of the door.
"Let's leave," I said, walking up to the door and opening it.
After walking down the stairs with Alfred, I saw Father waiting in front of the door for us.
"I told you, didn't I? Orion is a great tailor," Father smiled, indirectly saying that it looked perfect. "That aside, when you go out there, remember what I taught you. Don't trust anyone, don't believe anything and stay safe. Goodbye."
"I will, father. Goodbye," I said, looking at him for one last time before leaving through the front door.
On the other side of the main gate of the manor stood a sleek black car featuring an elongated, aerodynamic silhouette with a long wheelbase, exuding sophistication and power. Its glossy obsidian finish was accented by chrome details on the grille, window trims, and door handles, while multi-spoke alloy wheels and slim headlights enhanced its luxurious look. The streamlined design conveyed elegance and presence, making it a statement of refined style.
"Did he want to show off this badly or..?" Ryuk asked, looking at the car.
Rich people need to maintain their status; we could have used the smaller ones, but that would lessen our status.
"... Humans have such fixated mindsets sometimes," Ryuk complained, as I walked to the car and entered through the back door. The driver started the car as soon as I entered.
Uncle was sitting behind the driver's seat and I sat on his opposite seat. The interior of the car was quite spacious. With minimal advanced technology implemented in the control system.
Uncle wore a three-piece suit of the same brand as mine, but it was white; his suit was also made by Orian.
"When we reach there you can stay at the upper floors with the other kids of the Major Families and Alliances. Try not to cause any trouble while you are there, and if someone is trying to anger you on purpose, try to avoid them as much as possible," Thomas requested with a smile; he was still tensed about today's event and kept his guard up in case any assassination attempts were to happen.
"I think I will fare well within them, and try to control your anger in the meeting," I asked back, straightening my posture and fixing my tie.
"You think a small meeting like this is a problem for me?"
"The family meetings don't count, those are just an agreement within the family. However, this meeting will decide the fate of our family in the future, try to take it seriously, uncle."
"You are giving me advice now? Sigh... They grow up so fast," Thomas said in a jocular tone.
"..."
It's quite intriguing how someone joyful like him turned into the biggest villain in the main timeline after Ray and Grey died one by one.
"Two deaths can change anyone, he lost everything he ever loved to that world... I could only imagine how painful it must have been for him. The suffering he went through... It must have been suffocating to live through such a life," Ryuk explained, answering my thoughts. "Why would he care anymore about the world that took everything away from him?"
"Oh! I forgot to say, you should stay away from those Silverhearts," Thomas's voice turned serious. "There are no benefits in making an acquaintance of them, all of them are... Sigh... Just stay away from them, don't let anything they say get to your head."
"Are they that bad?" I asked curiously, knowing fully well what kind of people they were.
"The worst that I have encountered till now, they kill their siblings to prove who is the strongest and decide the next heir in an old-fashioned royal tradition. They also marry their siblings of the opposing gender to maintain something called pureblood... Disgusting little bastards..." Thomas said with visible disgust on his face.
"I think you should have avoided mentioning the last part... That is absolutely disgusting," I said copying his expression.
