Chapter 499 - Slave Six Siege: Player Unknown Doomed Fort Battlefield

Since he heard the Harkelans designate him as Slave Six, Viers' mind attached the word 'Siege' behind those two words.

Because of the word Slave Six Siege, Viers was in an FPS mood.

The mood made him want to shoot people and caused mayhem.

Viers created body armor inspired by Doom's Praetor Suit. The means was Soul Gear Liquid Arte.

Even though it had liquid in its name, it was mainly a Soul Arte. Using souls, he could create other objects, kind of like a magical 3D printer. Creating things beside simple objects was quite difficult so it didn't make him capable of creating anything out of his ass, mostly simple things. Crafting things he was unfamiliar with would cause the object to be brittle or cost too many souls. Since it was an Arte, the object was only temporary, not a permanent creation.

Of course, the armor he was wearing was no low-quality creation. He trained it for the current occasion, just in case he needed it. One day, when he was good enough, he meant to incorporate liquid metal with the Arte to elevate all of its creations. But for now, this would do.

The repeated roars of the Doom Gun shotgun reduced the Harkelans into meat and gore. Since it was a shotgun spread, Viers opted for the close and personal approach. Some became stains on the wall, others became feast for the maggots. Each shot was terribly lethal; even Level 3s would die if they got hit at vital points.

Sometimes, there were people who didn't die even when they should have. Perhaps their Unreality Field protected them or possessed good life-saving items. Viers was undaunted. It was only natural and he was familiar with the 'gameplay'.

Those guys might have survived but they were wide open after eating the buckshot. They might have as well blinking bright orange in Viers' eyes, an invitation for Glory Kill execution!

One guy, Viers punched straight through the chest.
One guy, Viers smashed his head into the torso.
One guy, Viers ripped his hand off and hit his head with it.
One guy, Viers stomped flat to the ground.
One gal, Viers tore her torso with his bare hands.

Viers didn't like killing women and preferred not to when possible but a man gotta do what a man gotta do.

"Who is this guy!?"

"M-monster! Guards, guards! Prote- Gyaaaah!"

"Hiiiii! Selio Squad is annihilated in an instant!"

"Ruuun! Run for your lives! He's not our opponent! Where's our Level 4 and 5s!?"

"You dare! If you run I'll execute you for desertion! All of you stand your ground! Slow him dow- AAAAAAHHH!"

Extreme chaos was stirred by a man's rampage.

Viers' firearms were not creations of his Soul Gear Liquid but a System creation. Isekai System that Isekai MCs usually have. Viers killed one before that got a firearms-centric System and salvaged what he could, using the soul of said MC to access the still-functioning System.

Viers only got an incomplete System to create all kinds of guns -real and fictional- and ammo as long as he was able to pay. The currency was souls.

The firearms could be upgraded further. More firepower, more ammo, and so on. However, the cost was similarly great. As a soul user himself, Viers had a great need for souls for other purposes so he limited his gun selections to things he liked.

In a full body dark green armor, Viers was like a vicious beast in a hen house, performing an unholy massacre. The armor, boosted by the Horizon Aspect, did not lose in terms of quality compared to other top-tier Level 4 war regalia. The Harkelans certainly fought back, throwing everything they had at Viers, from Artes, siege munitions, to suicide explosions, but they soon found out that Viers was a humanoid unstoppable juggernaut.

He was showering in the blood and guts of his enemies.

These enemies were fellow humans.

A voice in the back of Viers' mind told him that what he was shooting was living beings, not electric pixels, zombies, or vile demons, but humans.

Living, breathing humans capable of speech and feelings. They got red blood coursing in their veins and families waiting for them back home. They fight to invade Latias Kingdom right now but wasn't that because of the Empire's decision? Rank and file like them were only following orders. Even the target of Viers' revengeance, Rostov, wasn't here. The soldiers in front of him were hardly innocent but did they deserve the bloody death Viers was giving them?

It gave Viers a second of pause in the midst of his bloodrage.

Then he thought: This is fine.

The psycho pulled the trigger again.

Aim, shoot, reload, repeat.

All these shootings drained Viers' ammo fast. While he could pay the System to procure more ammo, it was expensive, soul-bullets ratio-wise. In light of this, Viers created his own bullets via an alternate method without the System's help.

Viers dismissed the double-barreled shotgun and swapped it with a mean chainsaw. With bestial savagery, he swung it down at a poor imperial soldier. His armor was nicer than most so he might be a high-ranking officer.

He screamed and died just like the lowest foot soldier.

To the untrained eyes, the officer's death was the same as others but to Viers, the man's corpse spat out colorful collectibles. Ammo, armor boost, and health orbs. Sometimes, even grenades appeared.

This was the man's soul, transformed by Viers using a soul method.

The Soul Gear Liquid armor wasn't invulnerable. Viers was in the belly of the beast. The imperials were everywhere. It wasn't possible to evade all their Artes and attacks. That was where the armor repair and health orbs came in. By picking up these collectibles, Viers was topped up and ready to continue his run and gun menace.

Without needed saying, this mechanic was inspired by the Doom game.

If he were in this world, Viers always thought Doom Slayer was a Space and Soul Pathseeker.

He got space powers because how else could he carry all his arsenal with him? He always got several kinds of firearms in every game. The BFG alone was bigger than a human's torso. He got to have a spatial inventory to store those away. It had to be.

As for soul powers, it was what Viers demonstrated now. Otherwise, how could flesh and blood demons drop bullets and health orbs? Even the demons that didn't have guns!

It wasn't Viers alone who was rampaging, even if it looked like one. Futon, hiding in Viers' armor, was doing his role as an automatic sub-dps. When dangerous enemies got too close to try a melee, he emitted a spherical electric discharge all around Viers, damaging and knocking them back. Futon might lack the power to kill the better Level 3s outright but his assistance to Viers was invaluable.

After resupplying, the chainsaw's role was over and Viers dismissed it, re-equipping his gun. When he was low on ammo, he would use the chainsaw again. When he wasn't, the souls of the fallen were intact and Viers collected them.

Viers was never the type to miss loot in games.

During the development phase, Viers had a thought to make it more Chainsaw-Man like, emerging the chainsaw from both of his hands and head.

He didn't move forward with the idea. He thought he shouldn't get too crazy.

Then again, he liked Denji's life philosophy: as long as there is yummy food to eat and pretty girls to bang, life is fine.

Viers was a bit more greedy but it was inspired thinking. Denji got his priorities straight. Respect.

After getting his head back in the game, the accuracy of Viers' shot increased. He was getting into the rhythm of the real-life extraction shooter. Viers wasn't just randomly blasting every Harkelan soldier that he could see. Just like in the all too familiar game genre, he was moving towards an objective.

Since he was behind enemy lines, it was the perfect opportunity for sabotage. Since this was a siege, the most common war tactic was to destroy the enemy's food supply. However, the tried and true tactic from the old world had somewhat limited effectiveness in this world. The reason being the existence of inventory items. Each person could store enough food to sustain them for some time.

Warehouses and storage buildings still existed in the castle and there was food contained there. An army of tens of thousands of people consumed a gargantuan amount of food every single day and putting all those into inventory items was a waste of precious space. Inventory rings weren't all that common either. The ones with big capacity like Viers', were even rarer.

The strategy could still work but rather than that, Viers opted to aim at the defensive infrastructure of the castle such as the guard tower with ballistae and magic cannons that bombard the Latias forces.

Viers entered the stone guard tower through a wall.

He could use the door but he chose to wall-breach like a giga chad. He tossed a few frag grenades after the breach, maximizing the chaos and damage. The survivors got the prize of a shotgun blast. He didn't forget to double tap the ones lying down with a sidearm.

He went to the top of the guard tower and destroyed the war machines there. He glimpsed the war outside and it was a mess. Under heavy snow weather, it was truly at the climax now. The Kingdom forces were heavily pressing the Empire's defensive positions. In some areas, the Kingdom even slipped through and entered the castle.

The energy pulses from clashes between Level 5s above the sky were as magnificent as ever.

He didn't observe for long. He was using otherworldly gear and firearms. The fewer people saw him, the better.

Judging he had done enough, Viers decided it was time for him to retreat. Things were going good and his rampage in the castle should give the Kingdom the push it needed for victory.

Well, the grunts could take the castle but it is useless if our Level 5s all lose. Do your best, Ciel's dad.

Viers was suddenly attacked from a neighboring guard tower. He was hit and fell from a three-storey height to the castle's inner ground. His armor protected him from the worst.

"So it's you who's been a mess of things. You'll pay dearly for your actions!"

A pissed off Level 4 imperial landed next close by. The disturbance because of the massive battle, Arte noise, jammers, and Viers kept on the move. He was finally found out.

But it was still within his predictions. As long as it wasn't a Level 5, he was ready. Even if Rostov suddenly appeared before him again like two days ago, Viers was now ready and a heartbeat away from using his Divine Weapon to erase the Ten Tundra Pathseeker once and for all.

But a mere Level 4 did not warrant the usage of a Divine Weapon that Viers could only use once.

The angle is good. I'll use it instead!

A big weapon materialized before Viers. Its size required that he use both hands to hold it. This weapon was, without a doubt, the most destructive in the entire Viers firearms arsenal.

Its name was Deus Vult.

"Imaginary-"

Taste it, My BFG!!!

The Level 4 tried to entrap Viers in his Domain but before it was fully formed, a sphere of yellow plasma was launched at his face.

Viers used the equivalent of 9,000 souls in that single shot. Because of the steep price of that ammo, he expected a big firework.

And oh it was beautiful.

The Level 4 was disintegrated into atoms as if it was an act of God. Even Viers felt he was afraid even though he was the one who shot it. The yellow sphere had tendrils of plasma, attacking everything that came into its range. As it travelled forward, not too fast, not too slow, it gouged the earth and erased layers of enchanted stone walls. The energy sphere was unbelievably destructive. It looked like a ball of electricity but it was so much more.

Futon looked on as if he was mesmerized.

The sphere moved straight forward, according to his aim. Viers meant to leave a big hole for Latias knights to enter through.

"Hm?"

Viers' bad feeling only came a moment before the sphere hit the wall about twenty meters away. When the 9,000 souls' worth of energy made contact, there was a blinding, mega destruction.

"Uwaaaah!"

Viers was able to turn and dive for dear life, looks be damned!

Fuck! That was bigger than I thought.

His HUD was flashing many reds but he just kept his head down while the ungodly sound as powerful as a True Dragon's roar blared behind him. The wind and mana pressure was insane.

It might reach the power of Level 5 Arte. It's beyond my expectations! Deus Vult indeed...

***

"We're inside," Stratos Gaelos, a knight sworn to Princess Celestine Amethyst Latias, was a man who was like the incarnation of Adonis. Even in the bloody battlefield, he was like a pure lotus, rising above the mud, untouched by the blemish of the mortal world. "Easier than I thought."

"Only because it's you, my friend."

A youth was accompanying Stratos. He was a young man with a fair countenance and brown hair. The glasses he wore only enhanced his intellectual impression.

"Alright," Stratos cracked his fingers. "Time to bring glory to the most beautiful woman in the world. The Duke's directive is simple enough. Anything to add, Kyle?"

"Just don't let your guard down. Level 4s are not your opponents but not even you can match a Level 5 in a straight fight. There are more than a few flying above us."

The two were walking in a stone corridor, after entering through the siege tower on the east wall. From there, they managed to infiltrate the inner castle. They were alert, but they hadn't encountered any enemies in these parts. The Empire must be lacking manpower.

"Say, isn't the one you called me here to investigate captured here? Who is his name again?"

"Avel," Stratos said. "Prince Croix's vassal. I have no doubt he's the one who killed Theus. I just don't have proof."

"Damn... My condolences. I know you are close... But to kill a scion of the Ducal House of Mercea... even if he's not from the main line. This Avel guy must be bold. Well, this Avel guy might be dead already."

"I doubt he's the type to die that easily," Stratos scoffed. "We'll keep an eye out for him. If we have time, we might rescue him. There must be other prisoners in the gaol. More achievements for the princess. As for Avel, I'll stand back and let you be the one who rescues him. Earn his trust and join Croix's entourage. Investigate him from the inside."

"Roger that. If Avel is dirty, I'll get him," Kyle hit his own chest with his fist.

"I'm counting on you, bud."

Suddenly, Stratos felt a deadly crisis. A wall was broken and he saw light.

"Watch out!"

Stratos pulled Kyle's hand and used his fastest Arte but the pressure of the blast still got him.

A few seconds later, he raised himself up from the falling rubble.

"Urghh... What was that? Kyle, are you okay?"

Stratos pulled Kyle's hand. It was strangely light.

"Kyle?"

Stratos saw Kyle's hand and not the rest of him.

His mind was white for what seemed both an instant and a long time. When he heard a sound, he turned his head.

From the direction the blast came from, Stratos saw a guy in weird dark green armor trying to stand up. Stratos' fury was launched from his throat.

"You... Was that your doing!?"
