Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Wow...
'It should be easy!'
With a 20 vs. 8, that's what you would think but wow...
In a mere second, it became a 12 vs. 8, all with one move. Well, let's rewind a bit.
{Exactly one minute ago}
"Listen, all we have to do is kill that goddess over there~! If you let us, then everyone else can live." A man with a cow-black mask spoke up. He was definitely the leader, as he was the only one speaking.
"Absolutely not!" Rethusa and the rest were adamant about not letting Artemis die—for good reason. Not that I'd let her die, anyway; I needed my quest to complete.
The man shook his head. "That's unfortunate."
Snapping his fingers, each member of his group—including himself—made some strange hand symbol. A bursting sound came out of nowhere, and I noticed crimson.
BAHHH!
'D-Damn.' My lips twitched.
Eight bodies hit the floor instantly, their bodies sprawled across the dirt path, painting it red. Rethusa and the stronger ones were fine, but still—losing eight in one move was embarrassing.
I felt nothing at their deaths.
One, I didn't typically care about people I didn't know. And two, I had a feeling cursed energy had stripped away any normal shred of humanity I had left. That cold energy allowed me to ascend past hesitation regarding most things.
I had no evidence to back this up other than my current reaction. The dead bodies were nothing but ragdolls, and the crimson blood gave the surroundings a colorful touch. Still, I didn't like the way this was being handled. If you could kill eight in a move, then you could have taken advantage of that while you were hidden.
'Why do idiots give up their advantage?' I couldn't understand it.
I put a palm to my head, sighing, "Hah~"
"YOU BASTARDS!"
Rethusa lost it and for good reason. If I were her, I'd probably be upset over losing that many people.
I glanced over at Artemis. She looked on the verge of tears. Her face showed no signs of emotion, but her eyes said a lot. Even with the short time we'd spent next to each other, I could tell from the various emotions she had shown that sadness—perhaps even regret—was assaulting her.
"You should hav—"
"HAH!"
Rethusa charged in, cutting off the cow-masked dude. She drew the short sword attached to her waist, trying to pierce his throat. She looked well-practiced, but I could tell it wasn't her main weapon. There was a slight stutter—a lag—in her movements, something I didn't think a true short sword user would have. But maybe that was just me.
Cow-mask dodged and quickly turned on his heel, kicking Rethusa hard in the side and sending her flying a few feet.
She recovered quickly, and Cow-mask didn't pursue. The rest of the eleven on Artemis's side hadn't moved, nor had the other seven on the black-masked side.
"You know..." I whispered to Artemis. Her emerald eyes met mine, but I could feel the sorrow and rage behind them. "Why don't you get involved?"
"I can't!" She was furious.
"Why?"
"Because it's the rules for divine beings! If I attack a mortal, I'll be in trouble and sent back to heaven!"
"Even if they come for your life?" I couldn't believe it. Who the hell would allow such a thing?
She nodded, saying nothing else. I didn't push further. Instead, I decided to help. Maybe it would get her off my ass later, and I really didn't like the way this cow-masked fucker handled his attack.
'Skills.'
[1 skill point available; recommended purchase: Cursed Energy Manipulation: Basic. (P.S. It's the only skill you can afford.)]
'...Then purchase it.'
[Successful. Cursed Energy Manipulation: Basic Level 1.]
A minor wave of knowledge flooded my brain, granting me an understanding of the very basics of cursed energy. No—rather, I knew what it felt like to control it. As a Jujutsu Kaisen reader and anime watcher, I already knew a lot about cursed energy. However, feeling how it moved throughout my body, how to will it into action—that was what my mind absorbed.
'It flows naturally, like blood, but to use it effectively, tensing the muscles seems to be the best method for now.'
I lifted my right arm and tensed it up. A sickly dark green energy manifested! I could feel the negativity radiating from it. It wasn't wrong for Artemis to mistake me as someone evil. Reading about it and experiencing it were two entirely different things.
'I wonder what the hell Sukuna's aura felt like?'
I didn't have any techniques, and while I knew the mechanics of most known cursed techniques, I doubted I could replicate them. Thus, instead, I did the only thing I knew how to do because of my new skill.
Swwoo~
I covered my body in cursed energy and dashed forward, appearing before an ox-masked person. He didn't even notice my approach—his focus was on Rethusa and his boss.
'Die.'
With resolve and completely neutral emotions, my hand pierced through his chest.
"GUAH!" He coughed up blood as my hand tore through his body, his heart now clenched in my grasp. The loud noise caught the attention of everyone else, and in an instant, the entire battlefield shifted.
I couldn't care less about any of that, though, as a strange feeling crept in. My first kill resonated within me, and I felt my face stretch into a grin.
I couldn't tell if it was exhilaration or a side effect of using cursed energy for the first time, but I felt incredible.
'Wonderful~!'
I dropped the bastard's heart and stomped down on it.
The feeling of superiority fueled the already overwhelming rush coursing through me.
'I can see why Jujutsu sorcerers were always a bit unhinged mentally!'
