Assassin God: Rise of the Strongest Player

Chapter 23 : Harder than Expected

Nash was pushed to an edge during this fight with the rock monster boss.

He was surprised at how devastating the last attack was and immediately, he took another bottle of the life potion in his inventory.

His HP was restored in an instant and he felt a bit calm.

Nash chided himself to be more calculating. "Tch! I was brash, but I didn't expect that the monster boss would be this strong. Even for the size of it, this thing is fast."

With this, Nash understood that he was going to have his hands full in this fight.

Nash started to take measured steps around the room, examining the monster boss in front of him as he searched for an opportunity he could exploit.

"Its damage is too high and I have only one more bottle of life potion left. If I get hit with any of its attacks, it might be over for me."

Nash was forced to go back to his mental drawing board. He was paying the price of underestimating the monster boss and assuming that he could just breeze through the fight and end it quickly like he did with the fireflies and pumpkins.

In reality, it was hard for him but Nash still had to maintain his calm and composure. After all, Eileen was watching in a corner.

'Fuck. You made a hasty move, Nash. I should have found someone with a defensive character, a berserk maybe.'

Nash couldn't help but think about the mistakes he made with planning for this dungeon quest.

He thought he could go through it alone without needing a team just yet.

From this singular encounter that has successfully pushed him to the wall, Nash already knew what he would need when the time comes.

A tank in his team and a long range fighter. There was no solid team without this class of player, especially the one who serves the position of the tank.

Nash couldn't help but think of his roommates—Daniel, Junior and Big Willy.

The three of them fit perfectly into what he needed but Daniel and Junior's faces stuck in his head.

Unfortunately, he couldn't recruit them yet.

He had not even come across them in the game world.

Moreover, in his previous life, he recalled that they both served as the heart of their respective teams and if that was the case right now, Nash would need to do more to convince them to join him when he's ready.

Nash was forced to get his head out of his ass and face the monster standing in front of him, just in time.

Neither Daniel, Junior nor any other tank type player was here to help him and he had no time to brood over his mistakes.

"Shit!" he caught sight of the growing shadow of the monster's fist coming at him from above.

*Boom*

The fist landed but missed Nash, creating some crack on the ground.

Nash successfully evaded the attack and moved to appear behind the rock monster, ready to seize this chance to land an attack.

Nash narrowed his eyes as he took a quick look at the monster from behind, studying joints and general structure of his body, the in-betweens of fire and rock.

"Bingo!" Nash's eyes brightened.

The monster may be able to throw long steps, making it seem like it was faster when in reality, its body was heavy to move and this made it slow despite its ability to cover more distance.

'It's the joints!' Nash exclaimed in his mind as he charged towards the monster, vehemently stabbing and slashing his dagger at the ankle and the back of its knees.

*Slash* *Slash*

The monster groaned and turned around, albeit slowly, to try and see the player but Nash also moved around it.

He was using the rock creature's slow movement against it while continuously landing his attacks on the joints of its legs. With time, Nash started to deal damage to the monster's HP, giving him hope that there was a chance of victory.

Nash repeated this method of attack over and over again until he was able to crash the monster boss' HP until it was less than a third of its original length.

Nash panted, his chest heaving from exhaustion as he tried to maintain his calm.

All the while, he was not free from any damages and the same also applied to Eileen as both their HPs were barely half of its original.

The intensified flames of the boss room were still constantly draining their HP at 1 HP per second.

Despite its weakened state, the rock monster suddenly roared again, shocking Nash.

The monster stood on its feet, squatting slightly like it was about to jump into the air.

From last experience, Nash could guess what this move was going to be and in desperation, he shouted commands at Eileen.

"Jump!" he yelled out, one of his arms stretched out to her.

Eileen, startled, immediately jumped into the air, blindly trusting Nash's judgement without any further consideration.

Nash, on the other hand, was shocked.

His pupils constricted in shock as he watched Eileen jump into the air. Only then did he realise that he had barked the right order at her but at a wrong time.

Eileen had jumped almost at the same time as the monster, meaning that they were going to also land within the same period of time.

There was nothing Nash could do but save himself.

Only by saving himself and winning can he save Eileen.

*Boom*

The monster landed on the ground with even greater force than he had done so far in the battle, creating a small crater and sending off a shockwave that spread around.

Rocks and fire shot outward from it to hit different targets.

It was at the moment of this landing that Nash leaped into the air, evading most of the threatening attacks.

The same could not be said for Eileen.

Nash had meant to tell her to jump at the moment the rock monster was landing but dished out the command earlier than he had planned, landing to her receiving the full brunt of the attacks.

With her HP crashing to zero after taking damages, Eileen died instantly.

Seeing this, Nash felt even more pressure and this was because their fate rested heavily on his shoulders.
