Chapter 428: Karma's Smile
Lucivar looked at the eldest with a devilish gaze.
And the eldest knew from that gaze alone that she was on her last ground, troubling Lucivar any more than this would be unwise, as what awaits beyond that was only death. Not only for her, but also for her young and cute brothers.
She can't have that.
'But… But I really don't know—what he's talking about,' the eldest bit her lower lip hard, pondering hard to find out what Lucivar was talking about. 'He sensed something from me? What? I have nothing on me, and I'm not in any way special.'
"I…" the eldest stammered, afraid. "I really don't know…"
"You know, after my resurrection and good mood, I have achieved the patience of a saint. But that still has its limits. If you don't tell me what it is on you that made my senses flare, I don't know…" Lucivar mumbled, his eyes turned to Rory and Mory. "Your little brothers… they're starting to look appetizing, and I don't mind a snack right now."
"Please, anything but that!" the eldest let go of her brothers and crawled forward. "Anything but them!"
Swish!
A hot wind brushed against the eldest's skin as Lucivar appeared before her.
He was by the graves earlier, but in the blink of an eye, he was now squatting inches away from her.
So close that there were barely three inches between their faces.
"Is that your answer? Hmm, maybe I should devour one to help you change your mind…"
Lucivar grinned, staring at the eldest's trembling eyes in amusement.
Then, he raised his hand and brushed away her hair.
"Or perhaps… killing you first and seeing them weep would be more fun."
"Don't touch her again."
Upon hearing this, Lucivar raised a brow and turned to the side, only to find Gandr coiled into a circle, hissing at him in a warning. "Huh?" Lucivar frowned, staring at Gandr as if he were looking at someone else entirely. "Did I hear it right? Why are you defending this girl?"
"I sensed divinity from her, moron. Do you think I care about mortals?" Gandr snorted in anger.
He couldn't believe Lucivar's thoughts went there.
"Divinity?" Lucivar paused for a second, then his eyes widened. "Oh, right! I remembered feeling like this before. It was the same as when I saw Thalia and Ciri. Right, she must be an opportunity. But still, what kind of opportunity is this intense?"
Lucivar turned to look at the eldest again, but this time, his eyes glowed emerald.
He activated Loki's power to peer through the eldest.
As soon as he did that, his eyes were forced to squint as the eldest's aura was sparkling like a new star.
It was blinding against the backdrop of the rainy night.
"Fucking hell, you're one bright girl, aren't you?" Lucivar raised his arm to cover his eyes, finding that the divinity stung him a little bit, which was quite annoying. "As expected, you're not a nobody. You're much more than a nobody."
On the other hand, the eldest, along with Rory and Mory, looked at Lucivar in confusion.
He had been talking to himself all this while like a lunatic.
Lucivar deactivated Loki's power and looked at the eldest again.
But unlike earlier, he was now grinning from ear to ear, "You have a connection with one of the avatars, who would've thought? Tell me, woman, where are you going? What business do you have to go to Sunhold City?"
"I… Or rather, our guardians were merchants, and they were summoned." The eldest answered.
Since the danger came to pass, she was not going to ruin it by lying to his face.
All the words that came out of her lips were the truth.
"Summoned? By whom?"
"I'm not sure… but it's a representative from the Supreme House, I heard."
"Ah, is that so?"
Lucivar placed his hands on his waist and laughed out loud, suddenly letting loose as if he had heard the funniest joke in his entire life. He was laughing so much that his body arched backward. One would think that he went crazy.
Even the three of them thought so.
"What are you laughing at?" Sha appeared out of nowhere and asked.
"What else?" Lucivar smiled cynically, pointing his index finger skyward. "I've accumulated so much bad karma that this treasure of a woman fell onto my lap! Now, I only need to borrow Loki's power to see what she has that tied her to the avatar."
Swoosh!
A sudden change in the air caught Lucivar's attention.
He turned to the right, catching sight of two swirling masses of divine energy in the air above; each one was swelling and thickening at a rate visible to the eyes, coalescing into an enormous sphere that dwarfed the size of buses.
Lucivar's eyes glimmered with unrestrained excitement, one that was unlike any other.
"Speaking of rewards… my precious Divine Bloods have finally arrived. Must be hard for the Gods to calculate my endeavors for them to appear this long," He chimed, gleeful at the amassing green—and purple spheres. "And judging by their size, these are going to be the biggest ones yet."
Breaking contact with Leandra and the others was quite a big move for his growth.
Manipulating the family to think that he was dead surely pleased Loki.
And the emotional suffering, along with their future restless nights, certainly pleased Tamtu.
Both Gods were rewarding him right now.
"I'll make up for this soon, Sha," Lucivar turned to Sha, scratching the back of his head. "I promise."
'Hmph! You better be!" Sha threw her face away. "But I'll allow this imbalance to pass. Since you got rid of that whore, finally, I'm going to see past this. I'll give in a few good words to my Lord, but you still have to show some effort, Blessed Oracle."
"Have I ever disappointed you?" Lucivar stretched his arms to the side and grinned.
Soon, Gand and Sha disappeared again.
"What in the world are those spheres?!" the eldest exclaimed from behind.
Lucivar glanced at her in surprise, "You can see the spheres? Interesting. You piqued my interest."
Hearing this, the eldest's face froze.
For some reason, that sounded like a bad omen coming from Lucivar's mouth.
Almost instantly, Lucivar summoned the Mischief Panes and used the opportunity pane to see what the eldest was hiding in secret. Since he utterly fooled the family, his essence bars were now full to the brim and could be used to purchase all panes if he wanted to.
Right now, he needed the opportunity pane first.
Swish!
A sharp beam of emerald light burst forth from the opportunity pane, lancing across the space with great precision. It locked onto the eldest in an instant. Her eyes widened, for she saw it clearly—yet seeing it meant nothing.
She was no warrior, nor is she a Hybrid.
Just a mortal girl—her feet rooted to the ground, powerless to escape what came.
As soon as the light struck her chest, Rory and Mory turned to look at her in surprise—as she began to levitate. From her perspective, the light spread instantly, unravelling into threads that wrapped around her body like weaving silk.
Strand after strand layered over her until she was encased as though a second skin of emerald glass had been forced upon her. Feeling the overwhelming force, her breath hitched and her hands trembled. The light molded itself perfectly to her form.
Behind her, Lucivar watched in interest as the air warped—rippling like disturbed water.
Then, it gave way to a new surface.
A mirror shimmered into existence, smooth and flawless, its face awash in faint green hues.
Lucivar's eyes gleamed at the sight.
Breaking through the Third Divine Elevation had brought more than just unlocking his powerful Divine Armaments associated tot each God inside him. Now, even the Gods' blessing bent deeper into his favor, becoming more beneficial.
Naturally, the Mischief Panes were now stronger.
And as he read the words etched upon the mirror's surface, a crooked smirk tugged his lips.
Lucivar asked in amusement, "Do you want to know why you're being summoned, woman?"
"D-Do I need to know?" She asked back with a sheepish smile.
Judging from Lucivar's amused smirk, she leaned more to not wanting to know as it must be bad.
But even so, Lucivar is going to tell her anyway.
"You have special blood," He said, inspecting the eldest from head to toe while rubbing his chin. "You have a special constitution, a fated prey for Vampire Hybrids called the True Blood. It's a gift that your body possesses, not a bloodline, so you're not going to be a Hybrid."
"True Blood? What does it mean exactly?" She asked dreadfully.
"It means the blood inside you is a great nourishment for Vampire Hybrids. It worked even for those at the Paragon rank, quite a delicacy. I'm sure your guardians are being summoned, knowing that they'd bring you with them," Lucivar tilted his head, and smirked wider. "Or maybe they were under orders— by the Supreme House to bring you to them."
Lucivar looked to the side, eyes sparkling with realization.
'No wonder those two immediately decided to use the performance of their lives to act good, turns out they were dealing with the Supreme House to exchange this woman for rewards. If they succeed in luring me back to the city, their rewards would set them for generations.'
'Too bad—they met me!'
Swish!
Instinctively, Lucivar looked up to the summit with a raised brow.
He heard movements coming from there.
'Ah… Of course, there's no way a precious woman like her wasn't guarded.'
Not even saying anything to the eldest and the brothers, he leaped skyward with shadowy quickness.
Rory was the first one to react when he saw this.
"He's gone! Sister, let's run away!"
"I don't think that's a good idea… Besides, didn't you hear what he said? The Supreme House wanted me."
"He can be lying! Let's run, quick!"
"No, behave yourself! I'm older than you, so you must listen to me. We will wait here until he comes back."
Hearing this, Mory nodded obediently.
"I will do as sister says…"
Seeing that both of them were unwilling to run away, Rory sat down on the ground and folded his arms.
Clearly, he was annoyed, hoping that he would grow up quickly so that his big sister would listen to him.
Moments later, the eldest looked behind her.
She heard footsteps coming from the main road, and she expected it to be Lucivar.
But when the figure appeared, she was surprised to find that it was a woman.
A lone woman walking in the middle of the night doesn't seem right, and it aroused her suspicion.
Just then, however, a familiar voice soothed her worry.
"Oh, Secretary Angel! You finally came. What took you so long?"
