Ascension of Chaos

B2 | Chapter 39

The rest of the banquet turns out to be rather boring for us. Mostly because Blake and I find ourselves sitting here with the Primordials as they bicker the entire rest of the banquet. Meanwhile the Enforcers look like they're sweating buckets every time Chaos looks at them.

Not that I mind that particular part though.

And something tells me that whatever announcement the Successor of Order was going to make ended up being canceled due to the presence of the Primordials. So there wasn't much reason in coming at the end of the day.

For me, at least. From what I've seen, the others who came with me had plenty of reason to come.

After all, Dhalia and the Tower Master made quite a few connections while at the banquet.

Which makes it worth the trouble in the end.

Plus I got to see the Enforcers terrified.

A faint smile stretches across my face as I fly through the sky in heavy rain towards my Spire. With both Dhalia and the Tower Master flying beside me. All of us still wearing our formal attire in the process.

But I don't pay much attention to the streets below or the rain as I fly. Mostly because I'm busy looking at the System Forums, doing research on that System Tower thing.

And that System Tower… is certainly an interesting topic, that's for sure.

The thing actually has a single dedicated entrance and anyone who wants to enter it has to go off world to do it. And there are numerous teleportation circles across the universe that lead to the planet with the entrance to the System Tower.

As for Val itself while we're all gone to check out the System Tower? It's protected from uninvited otherworlders by the System. So unless someone invites someone they shouldn't then it is safe.

Which should be fine since Dhalia and the Tower Master are here. And I doubt anyone will cause problems while they're here.

Anyways, the System Tower itself is rather interesting. Everything you do in it is ranked and you get points for certain achievements within the tower. You also are put on an all-time leaderboard after you finish competing.

So everyone will know how well you do.

Despite the fact that it is one of the precious few events in the universe that is not livestreamed.

That's right.

It isn't livestreamed.

Which is rather shocking.

Except a few special boss fights, there's no livestreaming from within the System Tower.

And that revelation has me feeling more than a little happy. Because it means some privacy for me for the first time in a while. Even if a few of the bosses are still livestreamed.

"There are some preparations that need to be made before you can participate," Chaos states, surprising me a little as I glance away from the screen in front of me. "You'll have to head to the main Tower of Chaos to be registered by the Tower Association for participation in the System Tower. And you might as well take some of that time to familiarize yourself with the Tower of Chaos."

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

That has me frowning slightly, but it doesn't really sound like a bad idea regardless of how I don't like the idea of going somewhere I'll probably be worshipped.

"You can participate in the Planetary Official System Event that'll be held in a few days before the Tower Master will take you to the Tower of Chaos whenever you are ready," Chaos continues, making me nod my head in agreement at that plan.

Sounds good.

The three of us keep flying until we arrive at my Spire, with the two of them heading to the lower floors as I land at the top of the Spire and look out from there at the park around it. Where I see numerous lights shining through the rain from people roaming around down on the ground. Not to mention lights from Gates that are rather hard to miss.

Overall, I find the sight rather beautiful.

I feel a faint smile spread across my face as I tilt my face up towards the rain, just reaching my hand out as if to catch the rain in it.

Rain has been a safe place for me for quite a while.

On the occasions that I was alone without Blake with me as a child, the rain would soothe everything with its calming sound. And it would wash the pain away. Like the pain never existed at all.

It would leave me in peace for a time, almost like the rain and I were the only things to exist.

So I've always loved the rain.

I smile as the heavy rain falls down, soaking my dress and my wings in the process. But I don't care about any of that.

Come to think of it, when did it even start raining?

That thought gives me pause for a moment before I just shrug it off and continue enjoying the rain.

It doesn't really matter.

I'm rather curious about what monsters I might find in the System Tower. Because from what I read, there are quite a few in there that can't really be found in the mortal universe.

Including a single Unique Monster that originally helped create the System Tower.

Maybe I can find a way to fight a clone of it or something to take its Unique Skill Tree? That would be helpful.

Very helpful.

Even if I can't actually kill the real Unique Monster. What with it not being Class D or E.

In fact, the thing should be Class S. And the System Tower is like it's Unique Domain in a way.

Just that its Unique Domain is one that the Primordials helped create to test people.

As for the Unique Monster in question? It should be some sort of large, humanoid tiger creature. One that often goes around riding on top of a massive tiger.

Which is an odd mix for a Unique Monster running the System Tower, but whatever.

I just want its Unique Skill Tree. And that's probably the biggest reason why I'm dead set on entering this little competition.

After all, even if I kill a copy of the Unique Monster, I should still get the Unique Skill Tree. Or at least whatever Unique Skills the original decided to leave the copy with.

So that's going to be my goal with this System Tower thing.

"You may very well achieve that goal too," Chaos suddenly interjects amidst my inner thoughts. "The Unique Monster enjoys fighting new people and decides to play final boss for the System Tower sometimes. Specifically when there are powerful new hunters who he wishes to fight with personally. He'll create a clone of himself from the time he was at your Class and make it the final boss of the System Tower for you to fight."

Sounds good then.

My goal will be to get that Unique Monster's Unique Skill Tree.

"Remember that you can only be revived once within the System Tower," Chaos says, making me narrow my eyes for a moment before relaxing and enjoying the rain again.

That's fine.

Before all of this though, there's still one matter left to deal with.

I turn around and begin walking into my Spire while soaking wet. But after only a few steps inside, I completely dry myself off in moments through magic.

Then I continue walking down until I arrive at my room, where I finally change out of the dress and into my regular armaments. Following which I lie down on my bed staring up at the ceiling as I open more menus above me.

Alright. So this Planetary Official System Event is different from the last one. Specifically in that this one is actually a solo event, and I'm the only one from our planet participating.

Which was decided upon my request. Since I didn't want to bother with a team.

And seeing as everyone already knows how strong I am, no one voiced any complaints.

That said, there aren't many Planetary Official System Events that are individual competitions. So the one I ended up in is a rather simple affair.

It's a type of King of the Hill event. One where there's a crown at the center of the map and the person who holds the crown for the longest wins.

So my plan is to rush in, grab the crown right away, and slaughter any who try to steal it from me.

A very simple plan if I do say so myself.

Very simple plan indeed.

And it commences in just a few days.

But for now, it's time to take a nap. Because I think that rain made me sleepy.

So after reading a few more things on the menus, I close out of them all before closing my eyes and going to sleep.
