Chapter 33
Chapter 33: Let Me Help You Achieve Your Targets
Suddenly, Yu Lan slammed her glass onto the table and exclaimed, “Zhang Liang, if you don’t support me in this, I might just go find your aunt.”
Zhang Liang furrowed his brow and replied, “It won’t be useful to seek out my mom.”
Yu Lan snorted and said, “Then give it a try.” After speaking, she realized that there were still three other men in the private room.
Chen Tao and Liu Xuyang didn’t mind. They were used to each other’s company.
But Fang Jian…
Her face turned slightly red as she said, “I’ll step out for a moment. You guys enjoy your drinks.”
Fang Jian asked, “What does she want from you?”
Zhang Liang sighed and explained, “Yu Lan works at the Industrial and Commercial Bank now, and she has a task to attract deposits. She hopes I can convince my dad to transfer our company’s Yongcheng account to their bank.”
Fang Jian and the others knew that Zhang Liang’s father had some influence in the Yongcheng branch of a defense industry factory.
Chen Tao exclaimed, “Can your department easily change bank accounts like that?”
Zhang Liang forced a bitter smile and said, “Of course not, but this situation is somewhat unique.”
Over a decade ago, when the local bank in Yongcheng was just starting, their company had opened an account there to support it. However, orders had come down now. Their company had to move its business to one of the four major state-owned banks.
The Agricultural Bank was ruled out, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank was preferred. However, many people were interested in this matter, and Zhang Liang’s father might not have the final say. Even if they eventually moved the account to the Industrial and Commercial Bank, it was uncertain whose achievement it would be attributed to. No wonder Yu Lan was getting anxious.
Fang Jian asked, “A Liang, what’s her target?”
Zhang Liang was surprised and smiled, “Thinking of helping out?”
“If it’s not a substantial amount, I can deposit some money,” Fang Jian casually remarked, “After all, it’s just a matter of depositing money somewhere.”
“Oh, Fang, you sound quite confident,” Chen Tao laughed and said, “Are you on your way to making a fortune?”
Fang Jian chuckled. Was this considered a path to fortune? Perhaps it was.
Soon, Yu Lan returned. As she sat down, Chen Tao said, “Yu Lan, how much deposit business do you do each year?”
Yu Lan was stunned and asked, “Why, do you want to help me achieve it?”
Shaking his head, Chen Tao replied, “Never mind, my modest savings wouldn’t pique your interest. I’m asking on behalf of Fang Jian.” He nodded toward Fang Jian and said, “He’s willing to help.”
Yu Lan turned to look at Fang Jian in surprise. She had already gathered information about the influential figures in her cousin’s class, and Fang Jian wasn’t particularly prominent there.
However, since Fang Jian had offered to help, she smiled and said, “I don’t have much business, just a six million deposit target annually. Fang Jian, if you can assist with some of it, that would be great.”
Seeing her charming smile, Fang Jian was momentarily tempted. But a fleeting image crossed his mind, and he quickly dismissed those thoughts.
He casually nodded and said, “Alright, which branch are you in? I’ll come by tomorrow to open an account and help you meet your target.”
“Huh?” Yu Lan, Chen Tao, and Liu Xuyang were all surprised.
Fang Jian’s nonchalant attitude left them wondering if he had misheard the numbers. Yu Lan blinked, exchanged glances with Chen Tao and Liu Xuyang, and decided not to press further.
Yu Lan smiled and said, “That’s great! I’ll raise a glass to you and thank you for your kind offer.”
In her heart, Yu Lan also had doubts, thinking Fang Jian might have misunderstood. However, with others present, she didn’t want to probe further and risk offending anyone.
Zhang Liang sighed with relief and toasted Fang Jian. He thanked him for helping relieve this burden, preventing his mom from nagging at him and his dad for days.
Fang Jian raised his glass and clinked it with Zhang Liang’s. Yu Lan, Chen Tao, and Liu Xuyang finally realized that Fang Jian was serious about his offer.
Little did they know that their class concealed such a big player!
After a few rounds of drinks, Yu Lan suggested going karaoke singing. Zhang Liang, however, declined and asked Fang Jian to take him home, indicating he had something to discuss.
Fang Jian understood there was something Zhang Liang wanted to talk about, so he bid farewell to the others and left with Zhang Liang. Chen Tao and Liu Xuyang didn’t mind, but Yu Lan was frustrated. She couldn’t believe her cousin was so unreliable!
