As Homelander In Multiverse

Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Starlight’s Decision

The information on Homelander's retinal display faded.

He mulled over the details in the notes section.

"Complete any two of the first three objectives, and you may end the event."

"And completing the fourth objective not only ends the event but also earns a 'Perfect' rating."

Now, Homelander understood that disaster events had varying ratings: "Perfect," "Successful," and "Satisfactory."

Each rating, combined with the disaster level, determined the rewards. The higher the rating and disaster level, the better the rewards.

Although he wasn't sure of this event's exact disaster level, one thing was clear—it had a greater impact than the Silver Tree Town event.

So, the disaster level was at least a "D-" or higher.

And if he achieved a "Perfect" rating, the rewards would be even greater than those for Silver Tree Town.

With that settled, Homelander's path was clear.

He would complete the fourth objective.

Kill the mastermind, Jeff.

For Homelander, achieving the fourth objective boiled down to solving one issue.

Finding Jeff's location.

Homelander glanced at the Titan armor below, remembering Jeff's words.

This former employee's grudge against Arnold for kicking him out of the company was fierce, so instead of taking a simpler route, Jeff had decided to hold all of Manhattan hostage tonight.

"If I wanted to watch a great show, where would I be?"

"Of course, in front of a big screen."

Which meant Jeff was likely somewhere on Manhattan Island!

With that thought, Homelander shot upward, blasting another hole through the Empire State Building's ceiling and disappearing into the night sky.

Maeve and the others watched Homelander's sudden departure, utterly perplexed, unable to fathom his intentions.

Edgar cleared his throat and said, "We should go. Since Homelander's gone, staying here serves no purpose."

Maeve nodded. "Let's get Mr. Edgar out of here."

As Edgar's group made their way to the doors, Jeff chose not to interfere, avoiding any unnecessary complications.

Tonight, his target wasn't Vought or the supes.

He didn't want to waste his energy on Edgar, so he directed the armored suits near the doors to move aside, clearing the exit.

Seeing this, Maeve and the others quickened their pace.

Behind them, the remaining guests shouted, "Don't leave us behind!"

"Take us with you!"

Some even risked charging toward the exit, only to be swiftly cut down by the suits.

Watching this, Starlight's eyes shone as she turned to Edgar, her voice steady. "Mr. Edgar, let me stay here."

"I may not be able to do much, but I'll try to calm the hostages."

"Besides, it could be a good opportunity to bolster our company's image."

Edgar paused, surprised by Starlight's willingness to remain in danger.

The CEO didn't need long to decide. He nodded. "Alright. But if things get too dangerous, focus on your own safety."

Starlight nodded in agreement.

Maeve gave her a long look, caught off guard by Starlight's bravery. For a moment, Maeve saw a familiar shadow in her.

Seeing Maeve's concern, Starlight nodded reassuringly, indicating she was up to the task. With that, Maeve turned and quickly led Edgar out.

Starlight then faced the crowd and raised her voice, "I'm Starlight from The Seven's reserve team. Everyone, please stay calm. I'll be here with you until this is over."

She then looked toward the Titan armor onstage. "Mr. Z, hurting the hostages won't get you what you want any faster."

Jeff's electronically-altered voice responded, "I'd agree, as long as they don't push my limits."

Starlight nodded, her eyes glowing as she illuminated the space around her, drawing attention to herself and calming the crowd.

"Everyone, please stay where you are. I'll protect you," she assured them.

With Starlight's reassuring presence, the guests finally settled down.

The Titan armor took a step back. True to his word, Jeff refrained from further threatening the hostages.

At that moment, Arnold's phone rang. He pulled it out, seeing it was Deputy Director Hansen from Homeland Security.

He quickly answered, only to hear a different voice.

"Mr. Arnold, this is Wilson."

Arnold felt a shock course through him. He knew exactly who Wilson was.

The Secretary of Defense—the very person he'd been trying to connect with.

Wilson continued, "Listen closely, Mr. Arnold. I need you to tell me everything about Project Zero. It will determine how we handle Mr. Z."

High above the Empire State Building, Homelander soared into the clouds, the stars and moon seeming to move with him.

From this height, he looked down upon Manhattan, which now appeared as small as a cracker.

But that didn't hinder his ability to spot every single person below.

Even if they looked like mere specks, none could escape his sight.

He began scanning Manhattan, searching for Jeff.

Anika from the Intelligence Department had provided him with Jeff's photo. As long as Jeff was on the island, Homelander wouldn't miss him.

Of course, there were a lot of people on Manhattan, so this would take some time.

While he hadn't yet spotted Jeff, he did notice several water police boats approaching the island's southern edge on the river.

Just as the boats neared, Homelander saw some unusual splashes appear on the river's surface.

These splashes rapidly converged on the police boats.

Within the water, he spotted the Deep Sea Raider suits—the ones previously flown out of the building by the Raptor suits.

Clearly, Jeff had meticulously planned and executed tonight's attack.

The suits submerged and sped toward the boats, launching small torpedoes from their arm units.

The torpedoes sliced through the water, creating trails of bubbles before striking the boats.

In an instant, fireballs erupted on the river as the police boats exploded.

Some officers leapt into the water, others were flung overboard by the blasts, and a few, hit by shrapnel, met a grim fate.

As the explosions drew attention from those stuck on nearby bridges, people crowded the railings, pointing and shouting in horror.

Homelander shifted his gaze from the river, focusing instead on Times Square.

Since Jeff had placed the Earthshaker there, it was likely he was somewhere nearby.

While Homelander scanned for his target, Police Commissioner Lowe sat in his headquarters, watching the footage of the exploded boats, his face grim.

Outside his office, hurried footsteps echoed, followed by a voice announcing, "I'm Jersey from the Department of Defense. We need your full cooperation."
