As Homelander In Multiverse

Chapter 153: Chapter 145: Playing the Long Game

Chinatown Apartment.

Inside the room opposite Lin Ada's.

One moment, Homelander had stepped into the blue flames, and in the next, he emerged once more.

In that brief transition, he had spent five days in the DC Universe.

As he watched the blue flames shrink back into the Traveler's Ring, lines of information appeared in his retinal display.

[You have returned from the Multiverse. Processing costs.]

[You spent 5 days in the DC Universe. Deducting 5 'Dim Essence of Proficiency.']

[Multiversal Event: 'Task Force X' has concluded!]

[Now calculating event evaluation and rewards.]

[Evaluation complete. Breakdown as follows:]

1. You altered the fates of Task Force X members. Reward: 'Essence of Proficiency' × 25, Task Force X Summoning Phone × 1.

2. You changed Amanda Waller's fate. Reward: 'Essence of Proficiency' × 5.

3. You influenced Superman, Clark Kent's beliefs. Reward: 'Essence of Proficiency' × 20.

4. You have completed your third Multiversal Event. Reward: Multiversal Crystals × 6.

[Event settlement complete!]

[New items have been added to your store.]

"Hmm… The rewards this time are way less than what I got in the Marvel Universe," Homelander muttered.

Maybe Task Force X wasn't considered a major event?

He stroked his chin. "Still, I interacted with a Mother Box and even managed to activate its power."

"I've gained access to the Information Domain ability."

"That's an invisible benefit."

"Shame I'm still short on Multiversal Crystals. Otherwise, I could redeem the Herculean Gauntlets."

"The main rewards this time are mostly Essence of Proficiency—55 in total."

"With the 6 I had before, that makes 61. Maybe I should consider investing in my talent points?"

His gaze shifted to another item in his inventory.

"What the hell is this Task Force X Summoning Phone?"

Opening his inventory, he selected the item. A moment later, a phone materialized in his hand.

Immediately, new information flashed across his retina.

[Task Force X Summoning Phone: A device that allows you to summon Task Force X members. By dialing any number from the phone's contact list, you can summon a member to fight for you.]

[Each summoned member can only remain active for 48 hours. If they die, they cannot be summoned again. You can summon different members individually or all at once. However, after each summoning, there is a 72-hour cooldown period.]

Homelander let out a low whistle. "So it's like the Black Bat Circus Coin—a summonable item."

"But this phone's a lot more reliable than the coin."

"I can specify who I want to summon or bring out the whole squad."

"The only downside? Task Force X members are kinda… underwhelming."

"Deadshot is basically DC's version of Hawkeye."

"Harley Quinn? Just a crazier, more chaotic Black Widow. Well… she has other uses, I suppose."

"Boomerang? What's he gonna do, rush in and feed the enemy free kills?"

"Killer Croc at least has some value—he can handle underwater missions."

"The most useful one is probably Enchantress' brother, Incubus. When he transforms into a demon, his AOE attacks are devastating."

"Shame his energy runs out after, like, two attacks."

Homelander tossed the phone back into his inventory.

"Eh, whatever. It's free. Might as well keep it for some dramatic flair."

Grabbing a beer from the fridge, he collapsed into an armchair.

"Alright, let's see what new stuff the store has for me this time."

[Charm Witch's Heart: Using this item will summon a female sorceress from an ancient era. She possesses a variety of extraordinary abilities and can be of great assistance to you.]

[However, be warned: while she has no time limit on her summoning, she will constantly seek to reclaim her heart. If she succeeds, she will immediately betray you.]

[Note: Once summoned, the heart cannot be returned to your inventory.]

[Price: Essence of Proficiency × 100]

"Well, well, well… I can summon that crazy chick."

Homelander chuckled. "Her abilities aren't bad."

"Teleportation, mind-reading, close combat, the ability to create fallen warriors…"

"And let's be real—she's got a unique kind of charm."

He shrugged. "Too bad I can't afford her."

He scrolled further.

[Runestone: Shadow Touch – Equipping this stone allows you to summon six to eight shadow tendrils from the Shadow Realm. These tendrils can banish anything they touch into the realm, effectively erasing them from existence.]

[Price: Essence of Proficiency × 30]

[Mind Controller (Necklace): A derivative of the Mother Box, this necklace grants you the ability to control the mental state of others. However, it can be resisted.]

[Price: Essence of Proficiency × 100]

[Sonic Cannon: Fires white noise waves. Versatile in application and packs a decent punch.]

[Price: Essence of Proficiency × 10]

"That's it? The new inventory's pretty limited this time."

"Still, most of these have some value."

"The best ones are obviously Charm Witch's Heart and the Mind Controller."

"If I had to pick, I'd go with the Charm Witch. Having that crazy chick working for me? That's peak villain aesthetics."

"Plus, her fallen warriors ability alone means I could build an army in any universe I visit."

"The Mind Controller is tempting, but I already have Mental Domain. No need for redundancy."

"As for the Sonic Cannon, I might grab it and toss it to Deadshot when I summon him."

"Wouldn't hurt to buff his firepower."

That being said, Homelander wasn't in a rush to redeem anything.

Nor was he in a hurry to assign his talent points.

Having just returned from the DC Universe, he wanted to take a break and clear his head.

And so, he vanished for two days.

Two days later, Homelander arrived at the Department of Defense.

Stepping into the Superhuman Oversight Office, he found Queen Maeve hard at work.

Ever since he had transferred her here, she had practically come alive.

She radiated energy and enthusiasm, completely unrecognizable from her burnt-out, disillusioned TV counterpart.

Turns out, career fulfillment isn't just for men.

The moment Maeve felt recognized and entrusted with real responsibility, she became a different person.

"Morning."

"You guys keep doing your thing. Don't mind me." Homelander smiled and greeted everyone.

Maeve immediately walked over, grabbed his wrist, and pulled him aside.

"Come on, we need to talk in my office."

Homelander raised an eyebrow. "Why the rush?"

Maeve hesitated, then rolled her eyes. "It's official business."

"I think other business is just as important." Homelander smirked.

Once they entered her office, Maeve wasted no time.

"They're setting us up," she said.

Homelander closed the door and drew the blinds, sealing them off from the outside world.

Maeve continued, "I just got word from higher-ups. They're planning to use us as a shield."

"They want to pit superhumans against superhumans."

"Which means when things go south, we take the fall."

"They get all the benefits, and we get all the blame from the superhuman community."

Homelander walked up to her, brushing her hair back. "You sound frustrated."

"Can't have you working with that kind of stress."

"I think I should help you relieve some of that tension."

Maeve chuckled. "And how exactly do you plan to do that?"

"Well… reducing unnecessary weight is a good start."

"For example, this belt—it looks awfully heavy."

Homelander's fingers moved skillfully.

Maeve glanced toward the office door. "You're insane. This is the Pentagon."

"And you do realize the soundproofing in here isn't great?"

Homelander nodded. "Which means it's all up to you… Keep very quiet."

(Two hours later…)

Maeve walked out, legs unsteady, face flushed.

She downed several cups of water before regaining her composure.

Meanwhile, Homelander strolled out, casually flipping through a stack of classified documents.

"Well, well… Looks like the folks here are experts in manipulation."

"Trying to buy me off while using me to eliminate their competition."

"Classic divide and conquer."

"But politicians love this game. They reel you in with perks, then turn you into their puppet."
