As I began to take flight, the sensation was awkward at first. My wings felt foreign, yet exhilarating. The initial flaps were clumsy, but with time, I found a rhythm, soaring higher and faster. The wind against my face filled me with a sense of freedom I hadn't known before. I practiced until my movements became fluid, my confidence growing with each moment in the air.
When I finally landed, my wings folded neatly against my back, as if they'd always been a part of me. A sudden thought crossed my mind, and I opened my inventory to check my rewards from earlier quests. What I saw left me stunned.
Inventory:
Skill book: Fire Dragon Slayer Magic
Details: This ancient magic, lost for millennia, grants mastery over Fire Dragon Slayer techniques, including Fire Dragon Iron Fist, Fire Dragon Wing Attack, Fire Dragon Flame Elbow, Fire Dragon Fists, Fire Dragon Roar, Fire Dragon Brilliant Flame, and the ultimate technique: Fire Dragon Sacred Art - Flame Lotus Exploding Flame Blades. This skill doubles your current magical power.
Skill book: Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic
Details: This forgotten magic teaches mastery over Lightning Dragon Slayer techniques, including Lightning Dragon Hard Fist, Lightning Dragon Talon, Lightning Dragon Roar, Lightning Dragon Destruction Fist, Lightning Dragon Heavenly Havoc, and the ultimate technique: Lightning Dragon Sacred Art - Rolling Thunder. This skill doubles your current magical power.
My eyes widened. "No way," I muttered, grinning like a madman.
Voltaris's voice echoed in my mind. "Well, looks like you're technically a Dragon Slayer now."
"Technically?" I quipped. "I've already taken down a few dragons. Feels fitting."
Voltaris chuckled. "Fair point. So, are you going to test out those powers?"
"Oh, absolutely."
"Then start by channeling your emotions into your flames," Voltaris advised.
I closed my eyes, focusing inward. It felt as though my emotions—my anger, determination, and resolve—fueled a blazing fire within me. My hands ignited with intense flames, radiating a heat unlike anything I'd felt before.
"Good," Voltaris said approvingly. "Dragon Slayer magic draws its strength from your emotions. But remember, it also relies on the magic in the air around you. Learn to breathe it in—it will replenish your magical power and make you stronger."
I inhaled deeply, and it was as if the air itself carried energy. My flames grew darker, hotter, and more ferocious. A notification appeared:
Skill Acquired: Flames of Emotion
Details: This passive skill allows your flames to be fueled and strengthened by raw emotions.
I stared at my hands, captivated by the sheer intensity of my newfound power. "This is insane," I muttered.
"But what about Lightning Dragon Slayer magic?" I asked, turning my attention inward.
Voltaris's tone grew serious. "Lightning is a form of fire, but it's far more volatile and precise. You must first master your control over fire before you can wield lightning effectively."
I frowned. "So I can't use it yet?"
"Not until your body is ready," Voltaris said. "You'll need to grow stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Lightning Dragon Slayer magic requires absolute mastery of fire. Until then, your body won't be able to handle its power."
"Great," I muttered sarcastically. "No pressure."
Voltaris sighed. "Listen, Shiro. You're incredibly strong for your age. You've already surpassed most devils, fallen angels, and angels your age. But you're still just fifteen. Your body can't handle the strain of everything you're throwing at it."
I clenched my fists, frustration bubbling to the surface. "I know I'm strong," I said through gritted teeth, "but I'm not strong enough. Did you see Azazel's stats? He's leagues ahead of me. If he ever decided to turn against the devils, my friends and family would be at risk. I can't let that happen."
Flames flickered around me, forming an intense fiery aura that encased my body. I clenched my fists, determination radiating through every fiber of my being.
"I will do anything to protect them," I declared, my voice unwavering. "Do you understand, Voltaris? If I have to face fallen angels, angels, devils, or even the entire world, I'll take them all on to protect the people I care about."
Voltaris's voice echoed in my mind, calm but filled with concern. "Shiro…"
"Trust me, Voltaris," I said firmly, cutting him off. "I can handle this."
There was a moment of silence before he finally spoke again. "Fine. But listen carefully: under no circumstances are you to use Lightning Dragon Slayer magic. If you do, you risk entering a raging state you can't control. Do you understand?"
I nodded, though he couldn't see it. "I promise. No Lightning Dragon Slayer magic. And I'll take a few days off training after this."
"That's all I ask, partner."
….
– 72 Hours Later
The dungeon was eerily quiet, save for the crackling of my flames. I exhaled heavily, wiping the sweat off my brow. My fire Dragon Slayer magic was now fully mastered, and the fatigue had finally caught up with me.
Voltaris's voice broke through my thoughts. "Shiro, you need to rest. You've done enough."
I panted, my body aching from the relentless training. "Alright," I muttered, nodding in agreement. "I'll stop for now."
"Good," Voltaris said with relief. "Now go back to the real world and rest."
I used Escape Dungeon, and the familiar warmth of my bed greeted me as I collapsed onto it, face-first. My body melted into the mattress, and I drifted into the comforting embrace of sleep.
….
Morning
As Koneko and Asia prepared for school, Frost made her way toward Shiro's room. She smiled at the sight of her young master, still peacefully sleeping. Walking to his bedside, she gave him a gentle shake.
"Shiro, wake up," she said softly.
A muffled groan came from under the covers. "Nooo, five more minutes…"
Frost sighed, rolling her eyes. "I have no choice."
….
I was enjoying the warmth of my blanket cocoon when suddenly—SPLAT!—a cold, wet sensation hit my face. I shot up, my eyes wide as I saw Frost holding a snowball in her hand, ready to throw another.
"Are you awake now?" she asked, tilting her head innocently.
"Are you coldhearted enough to wake someone up with a snowball?" I snapped, wiping the melting snow off my face.
"Good," she said, ignoring my complaint. "Now get ready for school."
As she left the room, I muttered under my breath and pulled up my stats screen.
