Chapter 37: 37. The Aria XXXIV
Uther's gaze was cold as stared at his rebellious daughter who had ran away from home for over a year and came back like nothing happened.
Artoria wasn't perturbed at all by her father's icy gaze. She didn't feel like she had anything to explain or apologize to, Artoria believed she did nothing wrong.
For once in her life she had decided to be selfish and that too was for a limited time , she had given up on what mattered to her the most in the face of the so called greater good of the realm.
She took the path where no blood would have to be shed.
Uther wanted a King and he would get a King.....
....
Uther did not waste any time in completing the marriage agreement he had made with Siegfried and his daughter Morgan.
It was a very small ceremony with only the upper echelons attending and due to being married to a princess, Siegfried was granted the title of Duke by Uther since he felt that his daughter marrying a Baron might besmirch his name.
And with Uther's ego it wasn't acceptable, whether the outside world knew that Morgan was his daughter she was still tied to him thus he didn't think much about it.
{ Everyone thinks Morgan is his step daughter but she is actually his own daughter }
And Siegfried was harmless in his eyes , as long as he had Artoria, Uther didn't fear the boy.
So despite the jealousy and discontent of others Siegfried became a Duke and he was someone these nobles had to respect.
Uther did this because he wanted to placate Artoria , he knew his daughter's feelings and even if she would no longer get involved with Siegfried, Uther knew she still cared about him.
So him doing this was to better his relationship with his daughter who seemed to be a bit cold , she was his heir so he didn't want any mistakes to happen.
It worked to a certain extent and Uther was pleased, he felt the need to mould Artoria into the perfect king he envisioned to be, so that she would carry on his legacy.
But Uther would never come to realise his ambitions as he passed away in mysterious circumstances leading to Artoria succeeding the throne.
There were oppositions since she was a woman but none dared to utter it out loud due to the support of the Duke and Artoria's personal strength.
Other than Duke Fraenis there wasn't a knight in Britain who could best Artoria in combat so other than the argument of her being a woman they couldn't say anything else.
But they also feared the princess as she was far more ruthless than before and she had this cold air to her that reminded them of Uther.
All of their memories were fresh as they still remembered the execution of a noble house because they conspired with outside invaders.
Maybe that Noble house believed Artoria was a pushover and would not go too far even if they were caught , which was a very stupid decision in hindsight as no King forgives treachery.
But greed blinds people and maybe their relationship to the Royal family gave them confidence.
In the end it didn't save them , trying to sell information to the Romans was not a good choice and this bad decision was one they would have to take to their graves....
....
Artoria established the Knights of the Roundtable and Siegfried was the first to join along with Merlin and Kay ( Artoria's brother , son of the old knight ) .
But the relationship between Artoria and Siegfried had changed , their relationship was that of a King and her Knight.
Artoria had suppressed any and all emotions she had , she had given up on her feelings for Siegfried.
But suppressing something isn't a solution and one day all of it would burst out.....
....
Years had passed since Artoria Pendragon had become King of Britannia and during those long years everything hasn't all been peaceful.
Vortigen had once again tried to attack Britain once he knew of the passing of Uther but this time he didn't survive as Artoria and Siegfried together slayed him.
With this it was peaceful for a while but the Roman's were still encroaching upon Brittania and skirmishes were becoming more and more common.
Despite all these difficulties Britain remained strong and the people experienced peace under the rule of their new King.
But threats were lying dormant in the kingdom and would soon resurface and would result in a tragedy like never before to the ones involved.....
.....
*Boom!*
Siegfried could hear the loud crashing sounds around him as Camelot was in a chaos.
A rebellion had erupted and the Knights who were dissapointed with the King had decided to turn their swords against her.
It wouldn't have been such a huge issue if not for the attack being a well coordinated ambush.
But all of this would have been for naught if not for the poison used to restrain Duke Fraenis the strongest Knight in the kingdom.....
...
Siegfried was breathing hard as he held the bloodied form of his protege in his arms.
" L-Lily " Siegfried's voice trembled as he held the hand of the young girl in his arms.
She was just a teenager , with her whole life ahead of her but it was snuffed out, and once again he failed to protect someone that mattered to him.
Lily coughed as she struggled to breathe as blood flowed form her lips causing her to choke on her own blood.
Despite the pain and difficulties she still had a relived smile on her face.
" T-Teacher I-I am glad that you are okay.... "
Lily's voice died down as she lost the light in her eyes as her hand which was holding Siegfried's lost its previous strength....
