Chapter 26: 26. The Aria XXIII
The heavy doors to the throne room opened with loud creaking sounds as the figure of a tall man in bloody dark Armor was visible.
Everyone who laid eyes upon him felt a sense of oppression. It was an instinctive reaction of any living being whenever they met something threatening.
Uther gripped his armrest a bit tightly as he glanced at his 'Hound' , he felt a sense of irritation well up inside of him whenever he thought of being intimidated by Siegfried.
He hated it , Uther was a very egotistical person , so having his ego bruised like this was not something he could accept.
But what he could he do rather than accept , even if he hated this man he still had use for him and it was far too difficult to even think of getting rid of him.
Because his presence was akin to a deterrent against all the dark forces that hope to lay waste to Britain.
Morgan's face was a bit serious as she could sense the threat emanating from this person.
How... Morgan questioned inside her mind , isn't he just a normal human.
How can a weak human have such a intimidating presence.
Morgan couldn't help but glance at Artoria to gauge her reaction and she was surprised to find that other happiness and longing there wasn't anything else in her gaze.
Morgan knew her sister held affections for this man since they knew each other from childhood and it was for her that he was fighting so hard.
Morgan couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction knowing Artoria won't get her wish and her beloved would never be worthy and all he would be was a dog for the realm.
Her innocent little sister always so righteous, not knowing the darkness and sinister intentions of the human heart , how would she react when she knew the rumours and gossip about her beloved as a Hound was spread by her respected father.
Artoria had bound him to life of servitude, made him take an oath to protect the Realm against all and any threats , she may not have done it personally.
But it is due to the existence of Artoria that a man of commoner birth with this much power would take the oath to be bound to the King.
Morgan couldn't help but feel a bit of disdain and pity , because from his behaviour she could guess what kind of man he was.
One of those righteous and prideful types, they wouldn't go back on their words and their words were akin to law for these types of people.
To them whether a promise was verbal or not they would stick to it , because their pride and righteous heart wouldn't allow them to go back on their words as it would be like stepping on the meaning of their existence.
Morgan pitied people like them , she disdained this kind of self sacrificing behaviour.
She could never understand people like them and especially disliked them due to the existence of Artoria who was could be included in that category....
....
The sound of his heavy steps resounded in the silent throne room as everyone was waiting with baited breath.
Siegfried walked slowly through the middle being watched by the Nobles in attendence as a myriad of gazes were trained on him but he paid them no heed as only one gaze among the countless in the room mattered to him.
He could feel her gaze filled with anticipation, and a smile formed under his mask as even with her trying to maintain a calm facade he was able to see through it, and he couldn't help but find her adorable.
Even after all these years she still remained the same , it was one of the reasons he loved her.
During that cold time in his life when he was just a street rat with barely any food to fill his stomach and roof over his head to shield himself from the harsh cold , he met her.
He could still remember her pure smile which made his day brighten up a bit , he believed it was just a one time thing but she would come to see him everyday with food and provide him some old clothes which were better than the rags he used to wear.
With her persistent efforts he had come to see her as a friend, he became a stable boy at her foster father's place.
The old man was a strict person but he had a good heart , and seeing that he had a talent for swordsmanship the old man spared no effort in training him together with Artoria.
During those years they had grown closer to each other and he couldn't help but be hopelessly in love with her , but the reality of the situation was cruel.
He was nobody , a street rat while she was Royalty.
Knowing that she was determined to bring peace to the lands and end all conflicts and strive to protect the people of Britannia, he couldn't stand by and watch her do something so dangerous.
He decided from that day forth that he would protect what she wanted to protect and maybe be able to achieve a status worthy enough to be beside her.
That was his hope in picking up the sword and joining the army.
He knew even if she loved him her responsibility and duty to the kingdom prevented her from being with him.
If he tried hard enough maybe there was a chance but he knew she wouldn't be at peace with that decision and he would be damned if he hurt her.....
