Aria Of The Cursed Dragon

Kill..Kill..Kill..Kill....Kill.

This was the only thought going through Siegfried's mind as he slaughtered his way through countless men.

Armour, flesh, leather ... It was all the same to him as whatever his sword passed through, it was cleaved.

He didn't even bother registering the sickening crunch of bones or the disgusting splat sound of flesh hitting the ground or the haunting screams of those he killed.

There was no right or wrong, no hero or villain, no evil or justice .... This was war.

And he was an executioner...

"P-Ple- " 

*Thud* 

Siegfried didn't even let the man continue as he cleaved him in half.

Hearing the sound of the body crashing to the ground, Siegfried looked around him and saw the scene of carnage he had created.

Mangled and mushed bodies strewn around everywhere and the revolting scent of blood and flesh.

Siegfried felt the overbearing pain become worse and worse and he could barely feel his limbs.

So without wasting any time he dragged himself to a small hill created by dead bodies and rested his back against it.

He plunged his sword into the ground and used it to support himself down on the ground.

This action in itself made him experience a sharp pain that nearly caused him to groan.

After settling himself down on the ground, he leaned his back on the makeshift wall of bodies and thought about the important people in his life as he felt the strength leave his body.

Endless regret washed over him, he understood that he might have been the worst thing that happened to Brynhildr and Skadi.

"Sorry..." His whisper was carried away into the wind as his eyes lost their lustre.

The last thing that he saw was the lustre of the blue sky....

Brynhildr who was tending to the garden she had raised together with her husband suddenly raised her head and stared at the direction in which her husband had left months before.

She didn't know why but she felt a bad feeling right now, and she could only attribute it to Sieg.

Although she felt a bit fearful she still decided to trust in Siegfried's strength because she believed no mortal was a match for him.

But no matter how much she tried to calm herself with those thoughts the bad feeling in the back of her mind just wouldn't go away.....

...

Weeks passed and the news of the slaughter of the entire coalition army formed by the kingdoms at the hands of the Dragon Slayer resounded in the continent.

It struck fear into the hearts of everyone especially Emperor Alf, but he was relieved since Siegfried had passed away.

So to tie up loose ends, Alf assassinated everyone related to Siegfried, all his comrades were either poisoned or assassinated. Seigfried's army was ambushed by Alf's soldiers as they massacred them not even giving them a chance to retreat.

Siegfried was made the hero of the empire and in a grand ceremony, his body was cremated.

Alf was filled with relief and happiness when he watched the embers glow.

Siegfried had helped him so much and he was truly grateful and to honor him he would make sure to make the empire more prosperous.

With the surrounding kingdoms, and armies decimated it was time for conquest, Alf was sure to leave his name down in history.

He even had the support of the gods themselves so he didn't fear anything.

He no longer had to fear the sword hanging above his neck and could truly rule his empire without any worries.

But Alf would never have known that something far worse was waiting for him.....

....

Brynhildr had a blank look on her face as she held the necklace she had gifted to Siegfried.

No emotion was visible on her face and the silence was deafening only broken by the pants of Grani.

Brynhildr took a deep breath and calmed herself down, she refused to shed tears.

Her gaze was filled with anguish as she took in Grani's bloodied form.

No amount of healing could save him and she could feel that he didn't wish to be saved either.

Just like her, a part of him had also died when 'he' left their lives.

Brynhildr knelt down and hugged Grani's neck causing the injured horse to neigh softly while nudging Bryn's face with his snout in an endearing manner.

Brynhildr softly ran her hand through his mane in a soothing manner while talking to him softly. 

She stayed with Grani until he took his final breath and after his breath halted, she let herself cry.

Grani was a companion to her when her husband stayed with her, she had quickly bonded with the loyal horse.

And now getting the news of her husband's possible death made her almost break down but she held herself together as she reached forward to pick up the parchment which was lodged deep into Grani's saddle.

And when she opened it she only saw a single word ....but it was enough to turn her gaze frigid.

'Alf' 

...

King Alf lay in a pool of his own blood with a lance through his gut as he gazed at the perpetrator who had put him in this position.

He wanted to beg and plead but his throat had already been crushed and the way his son was dismembered limb from limb just because he gazed at the woman in front of him the wrong way.

Alf felt regret, if only he knew there was somebody like this behind Siegfried then he wouldn't dare to move against him.

This woman didn't even care about her life as he had used the poison he used on Siegfried on her but she just took it head on and continued her slaughter.

She had already laid waste to his empire and everything related to him.

Alf felt despair when he thought of his dreams and ambition being reduced to dust.

He couldn't even scream or react as the lance crushed his head to smithereens.....

...

"Sieg" Brynhildr whispered her husband's name in a weak tone as she stood before his memorial.

She could feel the strength leaving her body and knew that she would die soon, but she didn't care because a life without him wasn't one worth living at all.

She laid down on the floor beside the place where his ashes were supposed to be buried and lit herself up in flames.

She conjured a spell manifesting cursed flames that would never stop burning.

Brynhildr closed her eyes.... to never open them ever again...
