The enforcers hadn't taken action for a while, partly because Caitlyn was the hostage and they were hesitant to act recklessly, but mostly because the sheriff had been detained, leaving them leaderless. As soon as they heard the voice on the radio, everyone's spirits lifted, and they sprang into action.
"Gunfire at the police station?" Under the tranquil starlit sky, a single gunshot pierced the night, soon followed by a barrage of gunfire like a torrential downpour and thunderous explosions.
"Jinx?" Justin instinctively thought this was her doing. He initially believed the worst that could happen was Jinx getting caught and interrogated. With the sheriff's daughter in their custody, they could negotiate with Musk—after all, if Silco could collaborate with him, why couldn't they? However, the sudden onset of gunfire completely disrupted Justin's plans. Bullets have no eyes, and if he were to approach the tense enforcers with the girl, he might not even get a chance to plead "hold your fire" before getting riddled with bullets.
Fortunately, Justin was used to having his plans thrown into chaos by Jinx. He quickly made a decision, tossing Erin over to Vi, and sprinting towards the police station: "Watch our bargaining chip! I'm going to scout ahead."
"What? Why me?" Vi awkwardly held Erin.
"Because I'm more cunning than you! Just provide support from the outside and don't do anything unnecessary." Justin soon disappeared from sight, leaving the two girls staring at each other.
"Bargaining chip? What does that mean?" Erin's eyes were as clear as crystals, so pure that Vi couldn't meet her gaze.
"Dammit..." The traps Jinx set at the entrance, though clever, wouldn't hold for long. Musk hid behind cover, refusing to peek out. The increasing frequency of gunfire finally shattered her composure. Jinx lifted her gun and aimed directly at Caitlyn—what hostage? She could eliminate everyone in front of her!
"Bang!" Predictably, the moment Jinx aimed her gun at Caitlyn, Musk burst out from cover to target her, but unfortunately...
Jinx had another gun!
"Idiot." This was Jinx's true target. With a burst of blood from Musk's chest, the sheriff, who could hardly be called a hero, finally fell. Yet, with his last breath, he fulfilled his duty. "Now it's your turn~" Jinx had no intention of keeping a hostage. Her mind was on the verge of collapse, ready to embrace destruction without hesitation. Is that so? A cold glint flashed in Caitlyn's eyes. As Jinx pulled the trigger, Caitlyn lunged forward, using the most disciplined disarmament move she had trained for years, twisting Jinx's wrist away!
"Bang!" The bullet shattered the ceiling's light, and shards of glass rained down, leaving cuts all over the two as they struggled. In his last moment, Musk tossed Caitlyn a key. Although he didn't like this overly diligent daughter of the elite, he had to admit that, right now, only Caitlyn could prevent the tragedy from unfolding. "Screw you!" Jinx kicked Caitlyn in the stomach, knocking her back. Caitlyn rolled away, dodging the bullet, and grabbed the sniper rifle that Musk had dropped. Jinx quickly crouched to retrieve her gun.
In the following instant, the best shot from the upper city, Caitlyn, and the best shot from the lower city, Jinx, simultaneously raised their guns, aimed, and fired—"Bang!" Just one shot rang out—Jinx was ultimately just a fraction too slow. Caitlyn hit her wrist, causing the revolver to fall to the ground as Jinx herself collapsed to the floor.
"Surrender! You have no chance left!" Caitlyn adjusted her stance into a standard crouching shooting position. The moment Jinx made a move, Caitlyn's bullet would mercilessly pierce her chest. However, Jinx remained motionless, as if lifeless, not even looking at Caitlyn. Her pupils had lost their light, resembling the dim blue stained glass of a chapel. Jinx closed her eyes, listening quietly to the faint ticking sound hidden within the noisy chaos, and a relieved smile appeared on her lips.
