Arcane: Ekko and Powder

Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Dreams Taking Shape

The workshop buzzed with activity, the steady hum of machinery and the occasional clink of tools filling the air. Ekko wiped his brow, a satisfied grin on his face as he looked over the hoverboard Powder had been fine-tuning. It gleamed under the soft glow of the workshop's lamps, its sleek design a testament to their combined creativity and determination.

"Perfect balance," Powder said, crouching next to the board as she tightened a final bolt. "It's going to handle even better now. Faster, too."

"Because you can never go fast enough," Ekko teased, nudging her with his foot.

Powder stuck her tongue out at him, her blue hair catching the light as she straightened. "Better speed means better escapes. You know how it is down here."

Ekko's grin softened. "Yeah, I know. But maybe soon, we won't have to run anymore. Zaun's changing, Pow. We're changing it."

She paused, her fingers brushing over the edge of the hoverboard. "It doesn't feel real sometimes. Like, we've been fighting for so long, and now..." She looked up at him, her expression a mix of hope and disbelief. "Do you really think it'll last?"

Ekko crossed the room, crouching beside her. "It will, because we're not doing this alone. The Firelights, the Kirammans, even Silco... everyone's invested in this now. And so are we."

Her lips curved into a small smile, and she leaned her head against his shoulder. "Yeah. Together, right?"

"Always," he said softly.

The next day, Ekko and Powder attended a community gathering in one of Zaun's renovated squares. The once-dilapidated area now teemed with life—children ran through the cobblestone streets, adults chatted over steaming cups of tea, and vendors sold everything from fresh produce to handmade trinkets.

Vander stood at the center of the square, his commanding presence drawing the attention of the crowd. Beside him, Caitlyn and Vi stood shoulder-to-shoulder, a united front representing the cooperation between Zaun and Piltover.

"Zaun is ours again," Vander began, his deep voice carrying over the murmurs. "For years, we've lived in the shadows, ruled by fear and exploitation. But look around you. This is what happens when we stand together."

The crowd erupted in cheers, their voices echoing through the square. Powder nudged Ekko, her eyes sparkling. "You're a big part of this, you know."

He shook his head modestly. "It's all of us. Every single person here."

As the cheers subsided, Caitlyn stepped forward, her polished demeanor a stark contrast to the gritty surroundings. "The Kirammans are proud to support Zaun's growth. This partnership is only the beginning, and I promise we'll do everything we can to keep this progress moving forward."

Vi leaned into the microphone, smirking. "And if anyone tries to mess with that, you'll have to deal with me."

Laughter rippled through the crowd, breaking the tension and reinforcing the camaraderie that had formed between the two cities.

After the meeting, Ekko and Powder walked through the square, stopping to chat with vendors and admire the improvements they had worked so hard to achieve.

"Do you think this is what Zaun will always look like?" Powder asked, her gaze sweeping over the lively scene.

"I think it's what Zaun can be," Ekko replied. "And maybe even better. One day, we won't just be fixing things—we'll be building something entirely new."

Powder tilted her head, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. "Like what? Floating cities? Giant robots?"

Ekko chuckled. "Why not? If we can dream it, we can build it."

Her expression softened, and she reached out to take his hand. "You're always so optimistic. It's one of the things I love about you."

He squeezed her hand gently, his voice warm. "And you're always the one pushing us to do more. That's what makes us a good team."

That evening, the Firelights gathered in their main hideout to discuss their next steps. The room buzzed with excitement as ideas flew back and forth.

"We should focus on education," one member suggested. "If we can teach people how to build and repair, they'll be able to support themselves."

"Healthcare's important, too," another chimed in. "There are still a lot of people suffering from the old chembarons' experiments."

Ekko nodded thoughtfully. "We can do both. Start small, but make it sustainable. And we'll need more people who are willing to step up and lead."

Powder leaned against the table, her arms crossed. "We should also think about Piltover. If we can strengthen our alliance with them, it'll open up more opportunities for everyone here."

The group murmured in agreement, and Silco, who had been quietly observing from the corner, finally spoke up.

"She's right," he said, his gravelly voice cutting through the chatter. "Piltover's resources are invaluable, but we can't rely on them completely. Zaun needs to stand on its own two feet."

Ekko met his gaze, a hint of respect in his eyes. "We will. But it's okay to accept help when it's offered."

Silco nodded slowly. "Just don't forget who we are."

After the meeting, Ekko and Powder lingered in the hideout, going over blueprints for a new project—a network of clean energy systems designed to replace Zaun's hazardous power sources.

"You're really into this, huh?" Powder teased, watching him sketch out a design.

Ekko grinned without looking up. "You know me. Always tinkering."

She leaned closer, her chin resting on his shoulder. "You're not just tinkering. You're changing the world."

He turned his head slightly, their faces mere inches apart. "So are you."

For a moment, the weight of their responsibilities faded away, replaced by the quiet comfort of being together.

Powder smiled, her voice soft. "I'm glad we're doing this. Together."

"Me too," Ekko said, reaching up to brush a strand of hair from her face. "We've got a long way to go, but with you by my side... I think we can handle anything."

As the city hummed with the sounds of progress outside, Ekko and Powder stayed close, their dreams for Zaun's future as bright as the green glow of the city lights.
