Arcane: Ekko and Powder

Chapter 100: Chapter 100: The Calm Before the Storm

The tension in Piltover and Zaun was palpable as news of Noxus's movements spread. The Firelights' hideout buzzed with preparation, and Piltover's streets became a hub of activity, with citizens fortifying their homes and council members scrambling to secure the city's defenses.

Ekko stood in the Firelights' workshop, surrounded by his team and Powder. He leaned over a table cluttered with maps, blueprints, and Powder's latest gadgets, his mind racing with strategies. The room smelled of oil and metal, a testament to the long hours everyone had been putting in.

Powder adjusted her goggles, her hands deftly assembling a small, intricate mechanism. "This should work like a charm," she muttered, snapping the final piece into place and holding it up triumphantly.

Ekko glanced over, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips despite the gravity of the situation. "What is it this time?"

"A sticky bomb," she said, grinning. "Perfect for immobilizing those clunky Noxian machines. It'll gum up their gears and slow them down."

"That's... actually brilliant," Ekko said, his tone laced with admiration. He reached for the device, turning it over in his hands. "You amaze me, you know that?"

Powder flushed slightly but masked it with a playful shrug. "Someone's gotta keep you alive out there."

Before he could respond, Vi strode into the room, her usual confident demeanor shadowed by concern. Caitlyn followed close behind, her rifle slung over her shoulder.

"We just got word," Vi said, cutting straight to the point. "Ambessa's forces are setting up camp near Piltover's northern border. They're not wasting time."

Ekko frowned, his mind racing. "How long do we have before they make their move?"

"Not long," Caitlyn said, her voice calm but firm. "We need to be ready."

Later that evening, a meeting was held in the Kiramman estate, where leaders from Piltover and Zaun gathered to finalize their plans. The once-opulent dining room had been transformed into a war room, its table covered in maps and diagrams.

Cassandra Kiramman addressed the group, her presence commanding. "We've secured support from key council members, but Piltover's forces alone won't be enough to hold off Noxus. We need Zaun's ingenuity and resourcefulness."

"You're already getting it," Vander said, his deep voice resonating through the room. "But this fight won't just be about weapons and defenses. It's about showing Noxus that we won't be divided. Piltover and Zaun standing together—it's something they've never seen before."

Jayce leaned forward, his expression determined. "The Hexgates can give us an edge. If we can use them to move reinforcements and supplies quickly, it'll keep Noxus off balance."

Ekko nodded, adding, "The Firelights can disrupt their supply lines. Hit them where it hurts, so they can't sustain a prolonged attack."

Powder tapped the table, drawing everyone's attention. "And I've been working on some countermeasures for their war machines. They rely on brute force, but we can outsmart them."

Heimerdinger, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke. "It's a dangerous path we're treading, but with careful planning and collaboration, we can minimize the destruction and protect what truly matters."

As the meeting adjourned, Ekko and Powder found themselves on a balcony overlooking Piltover's glittering skyline. The city seemed peaceful, almost serene, but the weight of what was to come loomed over them.

"It's strange, isn't it?" Powder said, her voice soft. "How quiet everything is. Like the city doesn't know what's coming."

Ekko leaned against the railing, his gaze distant. "Maybe it's better that way. Let them have this moment of peace before the storm."

Powder turned to him, her expression thoughtful. "Do you ever wonder if we're doing the right thing? Throwing ourselves into all of this?"

He looked at her, his eyes searching hers. "I do. But then I think about what it would mean if we didn't. Zaun, Piltover... all the people who are counting on us. We can't let them down."

She nodded slowly, leaning into his side. "Promise me something."

"Anything."

"No matter what happens, we stick together."

Ekko wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close. "Always."

Back in Zaun, the Firelights were in full swing. The hoverboards had been modified for battle, equipped with Powder's gadgets and reinforced for durability. Ekko briefed the team, his voice steady and confident despite the tension.

"We hit their supply lines first," he explained, pointing to key points on a map of Piltover's outskirts. "Powder's gadgets will take care of their machinery, and the rest of us will focus on taking out their transports. No unnecessary risks. We move fast and get out before they can retaliate."

The team nodded, their determination evident.

As they geared up, Powder approached Ekko, her hoverboard slung over her shoulder. "You ready for this?"

He glanced at her, a small smile breaking through his serious expression. "With you by my side? Always."

She smirked, giving him a playful nudge. "Good answer."

The Firelights struck under the cover of darkness, using their knowledge of Zaun's underground tunnels to outmaneuver the Noxian forces. The air was thick with tension as they approached a convoy of Noxian transports.

Powder signaled to the group, her eyes sharp and focused. She held up one of her sticky bombs, gesturing for Ekko to follow her lead.

As the convoy rumbled through the narrow passage, the Firelights sprang into action. Powder's gadgets detonated with precision, disabling the vehicles and throwing the Noxian soldiers into chaos.

Ekko led the charge, his hoverboard a blur of motion as he weaved through the fray, striking with calculated precision. The Firelights worked in perfect harmony, their teamwork honed through countless missions.

By the time the Noxians regrouped, the Firelights were already gone, leaving behind a trail of disabled machinery and disrupted plans.

Back in the Firelights' hideout, the team celebrated their success, though the mood remained cautious. They had won the first battle, but the war was far from over.

Powder leaned against a wall, her face flushed from the adrenaline. Ekko approached her, offering a bottle of water.

"You were amazing out there," he said, his tone genuine.

She took the bottle, her expression softening. "So were you. We make a pretty good team, huh?"

"The best," he said with a smile.

As the room buzzed with quiet chatter and laughter, Ekko and Powder shared a moment of unspoken understanding. They had come so far together, and no matter what lay ahead, they would face it side by side.

For now, though, they allowed themselves a brief moment of hope—a flicker of light in the encroaching darkness.
