Roar—
The agonizing and fierce roar reverberated through the warehouse, causing the doorframe to vibrate. Vander was on all fours, and the alchemical enhancements on his right arm scraped against the ground, creating a shower of sparks.
With his chin lowered, Vander's eyes rolled back, revealing a molten red hue as if boiling magma flowed within them.
"Puff—"
With a snort, Vander shook his head vigorously. The alchemical pump on his back rotated upward and then slammed down heavily with a bang.
Hiss!!
As steam hissed from the pump's valve, he vanished from his spot, transforming into a gust of wind that charged directly at Link.
Link's eyelids twitched. Was that a "Limitless Binding" without any recoil?
How absurd!
The gust approached rapidly, and Vander was suddenly right in front of him.
With sharp fangs close enough to touch, saliva splattered from between his teeth as his thick and sharp right arm swept toward Link like a dragon's tail in a wild fury.
With eyes wide open, Link felt the blue halo around his pupils flicker slightly. In an instant, he pushed off the ground and disappeared from sight.
Screech—
The steel claws skimmed across the floor, sparks flying as deep claw marks were left behind on the tiles.
Looking again at Link, he had already arrived behind Vander and unleashed a powerful punch.
As crackling electric sounds filled the air, Link dodged the alchemical pump on Vander's back and struck with a punch aimed at Vander's neck.
Boom—
As the force penetrated through Vander's body, his head jerked back. At that moment when flesh tore and bones shattered, the ferocity in his eyes only grew thicker.
Vander spun mid-air as his right arm continued to sweep across. His neck twisted painfully around as muscles tore apart; however, with that twist of his head, his injuries healed almost instantly.
Singed's regenerative abilities had already surpassed human limits.
The electric engine crackled while the alchemical-enhanced steel claws sliced through the air. Link could hear the hissing sound of steel cutting through the air and see the trajectory of muscles flexing within those claws.
As Link leaned back to avoid the sweeping claws, he curled up tightly like an extremely compressed spring ready to explode.
Puff! Puff! Puff!!
The air compressed with dull thuds as Link kicked off Vander's alchemical-enhanced steel claws and flew backward. Meanwhile, Vander was sent flying like he had been struck by a battering ram, bouncing off the ground several times before crashing into a wall.
Boom—
Leaving an indentation in the wall, Vander's body slid down helplessly while steam from the alchemical pump on his back spiraled upward again, providing him with even more potent liquid reinforcement.
The liquid pumped into his body circulated through his bloodstream to every part of him.
"Roar!!"
Vander threw his head back and roared while slapping his arms against the wall behind him before standing up once more.
However, before he could make any move, bright silver electric light flashed through the air. Link was already in front of him again with both hands clenched like bull horns charging forward fiercely.
With a thud, Vander crashed into the wall once more; this time most of his body was embedded within it, leaving only his forearms and backward-bent calves along with his head exposed outside.
"Whew—" Link let out a light sigh. "What a monster! Even a piece of iron would turn to scrap after taking that many hits from me; how are you still standing?"
"Roar!!"
Vander struggled to free himself from the wall. As he continued to roar in agony, he received an uppercut from Link that sent teeth flying like rain, while Singed, watching from the sidelines, grimaced at the sight.
You say Vander is a monster?
Have some conscience!
The real monster is clearly you!
Relying solely on temporary enhancements from new faint mist combined with an exoskeleton to beat down your own creation—Zaun's beast—like it was some wild dog!
You're truly the most twisted one here!
Janna had completely frozen in shock. Was this really the same Link she knew, who was always scheming?
Such performance surpassed even those elite warriors from ancient Shurima Empire.
Those elite warriors followed ascended beings; each one had honed their physical forms to perfection.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have qualified to accompany ascended beings in their conquests across lands.
Yet now Link relied on just one vial of potion and an exoskeleton to rival those elite warriors—it was simply unbelievable!
"Janna—"
Link stepped forward to break Vander's left arm and legs while pressing one hand against Vander's forehead and raising one foot to step on Vander's right arm's enhanced steel claw.
"Here I come!"
Janna gathered her thoughts and rode on the wind as she landed atop Vander's head. Her soft whispers transformed into ancient lost melodies that soothed Vander's mind.
Under the influence of these melodies, Vander's fierce expression gradually relaxed, while his struggling enhanced steel claws slowly lost their strength.
As the blood color in his eyes faded away slowly, confusion replaced it instead.
This change was astonishing; however, Link dared not relax for even a moment. Fixating on Vander intently, he shouted: "Vander! Look at me! Vander!!"
Vander's ears twitched slightly as he glanced toward Link. His brow furrowed slightly as he struggled to recognize who was calling him amidst this haze.
"Vander... Vander... Vander..."
Link's repeated calls resonated like thunder rumbling from afar.
It echoed loudly in his ears yet remained incomprehensible; instead, it made his already muddled mind grow even more disoriented.
"Link! Simply calling out won't restore his shattered mind!" Janna spoke through vibrating air. "I've suppressed his beastly instincts and helped him gather his fragmented psyche again; however, to awaken him, we need to provide an anchor point strong enough to support mental reconstruction. Otherwise, he will inevitably revert back into chaos."
Link pondered for a moment; currently, Vander resembled someone on the brink of awakening but trapped in a vegetative state.
He could sense everything happening around him but lacked the power to awaken himself—he needed stronger stimulation!
So—
"Vander! Do you remember what you said about riverbeds and bubbles back in that bar?"
As soon as these words left Link's mouth, Vander's eyelids jolted open wide. His face contorted with struggle as he uttered garbled syllables from deep within his throat.
"River... river... riverbed..."
"Yes! The riverbed and bubbles!" Seeing this had an effect on him, Link quickly pressed on: "Do you remember what you promised their mother?"
"Even if it meant digging up riverbeds until your hands were covered in blisters—you vowed to give them a bright future!"
"You promised that, Vander! You promised!"
Vander's eyes lost their blood-red hue as they began to reveal their unique colors once more.
He was teetering on the edge of awakening now.
"Link! Keep going! I can help him reconstruct his mind soon!"
Janna felt Vander's mental shift and urged Link forward through vibrating air.
Seeing that Vander could now utter fragmented words filled Link with renewed determination: "Do you remember Bobo?"
"Bobo... Bobo... Bobo!"
The beastly glow in Vander's eyes visibly faded away. Seeing this, Singed couldn't help but step out from behind cover, exclaiming: "This is truly incredible!"
As soon as Singed spoke up, though, pain flashed across Vander's face as he let out another roar.
"One-eyed dragon! Shut up!" Janna glared angrily at Singed upon sensing that Vander's recovering psyche showed signs of collapsing again.
Singed halted mid-step; embarrassment washed over him as he took a step back awkwardly.
When he initially transformed Vander, he had left behind significant trauma; now those memories were causing intense stimulation once more.
"Link! Keep going! Keep calling out to him; we're almost there!" Janna continued singing her soothing melody while urging Link forward like a ventriloquist encouraging him. "Stronger stimuli are best; only sufficiently strong stimuli can stabilize his mental anchor!"
"Sufficiently strong stimuli... sufficient!"
As ideas raced through Link's mind, suddenly, an idea struck him. Leaning closer toward Vander's ear, he whispered softly: "Vander! Because you weren't there for her... Vi found herself a highborn lady from Upper City as her girlfriend."
"They not only share beds, but Vi also—"
Before Link could finish speaking, however, Vander's struggling expression froze suddenly while flickers of recognition flashed rapidly across his eyes. With sudden force, he pushed Link away with his right arm while roaring upward, shaking off Janna at once!
"No! Absolutely not! I refuse!!!"
Vander broke free from the wall with a roar that echoed like that of an angry father.
"I will not allow her to have a boyfriend!!!"
