Chapter 373: Recruiting Members
After the meeting, the group of people dispersed and went to take up their duties.
Those who had to go look at houses left immediately and those who needed to recruit new members, went to prepare before leaving.
Because of the floods, many cars had been ruined, but luckily, the soldiers in the building had gone out the past few days and managed to salvage some cars including trucks and brought them back.
After some repairs and fueling, the cars were ready for use. So, those going out to recruit people in the name of collecting supplies didn't have to suffer and do so on foot.
That would be challenging since zombies had already started converging in the city again. Even though the military had eliminated a lot of them when they were preparing to register survivors, zombies were migrating like birds.
They moved from one city to another, one region to another in search of better resources. In the case of zombies, better resources meant finding more humans, especially those with superpowers and higher strength.
This also meant that those going out to look for supplies would be in more danger of falling prey to the zombies. However, there wasn't another choice because someone had to go out and battle those monsters.
Hence, after a little preparation, more than twenty people got into different cars and left the community.
They weren't heading in the same direction since they had to recruit people from different places.
Thus, after getting on the road, the cars left in different directions. Each car or truck had a team of five people.
They weren't too many that they would attract hordes of zombies, but they weren't too few that they couldn't defend themselves.
Each group also had a mix of superpower users and ordinary people. They also had different types of weapons including swords and guns.
Li Kun, who was leading one of the groups even had grenades. It could be said that they had taken the best precautions to prevent any unforeseen situations.
Moreover, before leaving, Mother Chu had given everyone a 500 ml bottle of spiritual water mixed with herbs.
She had told them that it was medicine that had the effect of purifying anything evil or dirty. That included zombie virus, so if the got scratched by accident, they should immediately wash the spot with the medicine and take some orally.
However, she also made it clear that it may not work since not much research had been done. Therefore, everyone had to be careful and protect themselves.
Even though many were skeptical, those who knew the Chu family better like Li Kun were aware that the medicine might really have that effect, thus, he kept it very safe in his space.
Even though the military had done some clean up when the floods had dried, they had mostly collected the bodies of the bloated corpses and dead animals and burned them to reduce the risk of diseases.
However, the rest of the garbage was still scattered in every corner of the city. Because of the spread of cholera, everyone had to be careful and wear masks. However, it was unknown whether this had any results since the disease was spreading very fast.
In the community where the Chu family lived, they had already witnessed the deaths of four people from cholera.
It was this situation that forced the team affiliated with the Chu family to take action and clean up the community as well as repair the walls that had been eroded by the floods.
They had also encouraged people to observe cleanliness and spray disinfectant in their houses and corridors.
This had reduced the virus significantly and no more deaths were experienced.
However, other places weren't so lucky and a lot of garbage still filled buildings, parks, roads, and basically every space available.
This was the situation Li Kun and his peers were experiencing at that moment. As they drove further away from the community and entered the city, the situation became even worse.
This was because there were no residential communities nearby, so the military had only killed zombies but didn't bother with the clean up.
As such, one could see the ground littered with shriveled bodies covered in flies and smelling like something indescribable.
These were bodies of people who died during the floods and couldn't be buried or cremated. Their families had tossed them into the floor water and they got carried away to different places.
When the floods ended and the water dried up, these bodies were still bloated due to staying in the water for too long. Nevertheless, after the recent sun and heat, they had dehydrated and become shriveled while at the same time speeding up their decomposition.
In fact, these bodies were what was the biggest contributing factor to the cholera. If nothing was done about them, things would only get worse.
As Li Kun thought of this, he had the driver stop the car and ordered the people in his team to collect the bodies they could see before asking one of the superpower users with a fire element to set them on fire.
This action might be redundant, but he believed that it would contribute towards ending the cholera outbreak.
However, doing this meant that they would have to stop every now and then to collect and burn corpses, therefore, delaying their mission.
Moreover, sometimes when they stopped, they would be surrounded by zombies and they would have to battle first before going on.
In this way, it took them nearly three hours to enter the city when they could have done it in an hour. However, this was also a gain because they were gaining real combat experience and also collecting crystal cores.
As they neared the city, they heard some noise coming from a distance in a different direction. Li Kun decided to go and check it out.
He had the driver park the car in a secluded alley and the five of them walked towards the noise.
It was only when they walked out of the path they were on that they appeared in front of a warehouse.
This warehouse wasn't big, but it wasn't very small either.
