Chapter 62: So Screwed
His smile vanished in an instant as realization hit him.
"…All that wasted lifespan," he muttered, his lips twitching in irritation.

To say he wasn't disappointed would've been an understatement.
Lifespan was an incredibly scarce resource.
Even after slaughtering countless zombies and harvesting their cores, most turned out to be Mana variants, only a few dozen were Internal types.
Even with the Talent Vault, which allowed him to lend out talents for lifespan, it still took a month before he could cash them in.
And to think he'd been using a half-baked talent all this time...
The moment he inspected them, he quickly understood how Transhost functioned.
Any ability shared among different hosts had its effect halved, while its activation cost doubled compared to the original owner.
He confirmed it by comparing D-One's and Levi's statuses.
But what truly caught him off guard was Ana, the original owner.
Unlike the others, her versions of the shared talents retained full power, with no reduction or increased cost.
And to say he wasn't surprised seeing all of them using Transhost would've been a lie.
Now he understood why D-One was so feared.
If anyone in this apocalypse became their target, it was a guaranteed death sentence.
Aron could sense their energy waves and roughly gauge their ranks before multipliers even took effect.
Levi and Ana were likely mid-level Transcendents.
(Too bad they picked a fight with me.)
He shook his head in mild pity.
Levi and Ana advanced, while the bloodied D-One barely stayed upright, kneeling after the brutal beating Aron had given him.
Then, both froze for a moment under Aron's gaze.
"Is it just me, or is he… looking at us with pity?" Levi muttered, his tone uneasy.
Ana didn't reply. She simply sprinted faster toward the battlefield, her face grim and conflicted.
"It doesn't matter," she said through clenched teeth. "With his strength and speed, we can still crush him. Together, we'll take him down."
Confidence still burned in her voice.
Even though Aron could track their every move with ease, despite their 200× boost, she believed the two of them could overpower him and help D-One.
As soon as they arrived, they launched their punches in perfect sync.
Thanks to Death Speed and sense, Aron could read their every motion, the twitch of a muscle, the shift in weight, the flicker of intent.
Both aimed for his face.
Aron didn't dodge.
He raised his arms and blocked.
Crack. Crack.
The sound of bones snapping echoed through the air.
Aron was forced back several steps, blood spilling from his mouth. He coughed, shaking his head, acknowledging the vast difference in raw power.
The only reason he'd reduced D-One to such a sorry state was the immense speed gap between them.
If it had been a contest of strength, he'd have died countless times over.
Levi stood firm, watching as Aron steadied himself.
Meanwhile, Ana rushed to D-One's side. Blood poured from his mouth and wounds.
She reached him and shouted, "Heal!"
In an instant, light flared.
His wounds sealed, and even the tongue Aron had sliced off regrew.
Within seconds, D-One was back to his peak, completely healed before their eyes.
He rose, glaring at Aron, humiliation burning deep in his eyes.
Aron, having already healed his own hand, stood still, arms crossed, quietly observing the entire scene from start to finish without interfering.
The faint smile on his lips made it seem as though he were watching a troupe of clowns perform.
When Ana finished, the three of them stood side by side, ready for battle.
"Are you guys done?" Aron asked with a calm smile, as if he were a friendly senior brother checking on his juniors' preparations.
D-One's eyes burned with fury. "Act cocky all you want, but you won't leave here alive. I swear it!"
Aron tilted his head slightly.
"You know what your problem is?"Aron said, his tone casual. "You talk too much."
Just then, the Inspection Replication Timer was about to hit the ten seconds mark, when he activated the new version he'd acquired from inspecting Levi.
And just as he was about to attack, a notification appeared, stunning him in place.
[Talent Merge Detected: Similar talents found. "Godmode" has been upgraded.]
[Godmode (Internal Authority): Increases self-strength by 300×; consumes 250 years of lifespan every 20 seconds. Replication Timer: 10 seconds remaining.]
--
Instantly, the trio felt Aron's power surge, his aura erupting to terrifying levels.
Standing before them, his expression softened once again into one of pure pity.
[Death Speed – Doubles speed. Consumes one year of lifespan per second.]
He activated it.
His already overwhelming speed, multiplied 300×, doubled once more.
A smirk tugged at his lips.
"You guys…" he murmured under his breath, the smirk widening. "...are so screwed."
