Chapter 68: Watching Videos
"We just finished watching the first one, how about we watch the second one in order? If it's still a blurry bootleg, we'll watch the third one."
Lu Xi'an asked. He could already predict that Yao Wei's answer would definitely be "Mm-hmm."
But he still wanted to ask, feeling that no matter what, he should at least ask Yao Wei.
"Mm-hmm."
Sure enough, Yao Wei answered like that.
Lu Xi'an chuckled and clicked on the second video in the folder.
The video's title was "Late Autumn," which seemed like an art film.
Actually, Lu Xi'an was quite in the mood for a mindless popcorn flick, but digging through file after file was troublesome, so he gave up.
What if the popcorn flick was buried under hundreds of other files? Or maybe the entertainment industry in this world just diverged, focusing only on artsy films and avoiding popcorn flicks.
If that was the case, wouldn't he be searching in vain?
Click, play.
The video file popped into the player.
The player went black for a moment, then a scene appeared, showing a cityscape with the words "Late Autumn" printed in large letters across the middle.
Next to "Late Autumn," there was a small line of text, saying "Produced by Yelu Company."
It sounded like the name of a beverage company...
Lu Xi'an wondered what kind of film company would have such a name, and how unusual it was to present the movie's title and production company name right from the beginning.
However, the movie's background music was quite nice, sounding relaxed and warm.
The computer's player, due to long-term neglect, was a bit outdated, causing some distortion in the music as it played through the speakers.
But for Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei, it was already quite acceptable.
Lu Xi'an explained to Yao Wei: "What you hear now is music, while the other player and the files in the folder are just audio with different melodies than this one."
"Mm-hmm."
Yao Wei thought for a moment and asked, "Is this good to sleep to?"
Lu Xi'an replied, "It depends on the person. Some like to sleep while listening to music, others prefer silence, and some enjoy sleeping to comedic dialogues."
"Comedic dialogues?"
Yao Wei heard an unfamiliar term.
"It's just two people talking and making each other laugh,"
Lu Xi'an explained briefly and directly.
"Oh."
Yao Wei responded with an "Oh," but said nothing more. She couldn't quite understand how laughing fits into sleeping.
"I wonder if there's any comedic dialogue in here..."
Lu Xi'an said.
But he didn't hold much hope. There might not even be any comedic dialogue in this world.
As he spoke, he double-clicked the mouse to enlarge the video in the player.
The computer's controls all suited Lu Xi'an's operating habits. He was pleased with it.
The movie screen occupied the entire display. The scene shifted to an interior view.
With light wooden furniture, a space filled with a sense of life, and a warm-toned image, it felt quite comfortable.
Yao Wei watched the scene attentively. Although it was just a simple transition shot, she was utterly focused, as if the outdoor and indoor scenes alone held endless allure for her.
"How is it? Not bad, right? This is the world before the apocalypse. Comfortable and serene, it's unbelievably beautiful compared to now."
Lu Xi'an said nostalgically.
Scenes like this, he hadn't seen for some time, and he truly missed it!
As he shared these thoughts with Yao Wei, he couldn't help but feel a subtle, unexplainable pride, as if showing off to Yao Wei that he once lived in such a world.
"Mm-hmm."
Yao Wei nodded in response to Lu Xi'an's words.
Seeing Yao Wei's focused and approving look, Lu Xi'an felt a slight sense of pride.
But he quickly cast such emotions aside from his mind.
What good is pride in the past? He's now living in a post-apocalyptic world, and all that once was is now history.
He's not some old-school flag-waver from another era; he must not get stuck in the past!
"Click—"
The door in the display room opened, and a woman wearing a beige turtleneck sweater and a black pencil skirt, with a curvaceous figure and an exaggerated bust, walked in.
This woman, with long wavy hair and a gentle smile, epitomized the classic homemaker image.
She placed the bag she was carrying on the shoe cabinet and turned back to say something to someone outside the door before pulling a person inside.
A younger man came in...
Wait a minute!
Why do both the scene and the plot progression seem so familiar?!
Lu Xi'an's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly glanced at Yao Wei beside him.
Yao Wei was still engrossed. Her gaze was fixed on the woman in the video, seemingly a bit envious.
Such smooth, wavy hair and flawless, unblemished skin, impervious to environmental effects, seemed overwhelming to Yao Wei.
The two people in the video started speaking; their dialogue had no substance, like an older sister coaxing a younger boy.
Lu Xi'an: "..."
As he suspected, this movie wasn't serious!
Damn it, why does this world's serious-named movie have to be so unserious?!
This won't attract anyone or highlight the main genre!
"Should we watch something else?"
He hurriedly said, reaching for the mouse.
But Yao Wei said, "Why? This is quite nice."
She really did think it was nice, the cleanliness of the scene made it feel comforting.
Nice indeed...
Lu Xi'an's hand reached the mouse, double-clicked to minimize the screen, and said, "This one's a bit slapdash. If we want to watch, let's find a good one."
But Yao Wei held his hand, keeping her eyes on the display, and said, "No need, let's watch this first. If I see something better, I'm not sure I can appreciate this one afterward."
Lu Xi'an: "..."
It seemed this woman really planned to leave the computer in the car, even if it meant sacrificing legroom, sitting cross-legged was no problem.
But that wasn't the main issue now.
The main issue was that in the video, the wavy-haired woman had initiated an attack, pressing the young man against the wall.
Kiss.
Lu Xi'an: "..."
Yao Wei: "..."
This woman finally understood what was happening and retracted her hand as if electrocuted.
Seeing the scene reminded her of the comic Lu Xi'an had her read in the shelter, and she felt a bit uneasy.
The two in the video had changed roles; the younger man had reversed positions with the wavy-haired woman.
The wavy-haired woman was now against the wall, engrossed and focused, with the screen's undertones warming with the increasingly intense storyline.
And it was getting warmer.
"Change it quickly!"
Yao Wei said with a somewhat stiff voice and an odd tone, feeling inexplicably tense.
Not even when she was shooting or fighting did she feel this tense.
