Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 168: Setting Out Again, Rumors (Part 2)

"It works."

Lu Xi'an was delighted at the sight. He hadn't tried whether the game console could work before, and when he turned it on to play, he was pleasantly surprised.

But at that moment, he suddenly realized he'd overlooked something—

He'd forgotten to charge the controller.

"Both controllers are out of power, and there's only one data cable, so I'll have to connect one controller first, charge while playing. When one is charged enough, I'll switch to the other."

He sighed and said.

Yao Wei said, "No problem, I'll watch you play."

Lu Xi'an laughed and said, "I'll teach you in a moment, you try first."

But Yao Wei insisted that Lu Xi'an play, saying she preferred to watch. She wanted to see why Lu Xi'an liked this game so much.

Afterwards, Lu Xi'an took out the disc box labeled "Desolate Century," opened it, took out the disc, and inserted it into the console's disc drive.

The console made a buzzing sound again, and the game icon for "Desolate Century" appeared on the screen, showing "Installing."

Luckily, the discs in this world aren't just used as keys while the game needs to be downloaded online.

Lu Xi'an breathed a sigh of relief. Once the game was installed, he tried to enjoy playing.

It was a Diablo-style game, focused on grinding, collecting and switching equipment, with diverse skills and decent combat experience.

Lu Xi'an played quite happily, and Yao Wei watched intently, whether out of curiosity or genuine interest.

Seeing this, after playing for a while, Lu Xi'an handed the controller to Yao Wei for her to try.

After experiencing it, Yao Wei returned the controller to Lu Xi'an, saying she preferred watching and letting him play.

Lu Xi'an had been observing Yao Wei, and seeing her enjoy trying it, he unplugged the controller's data cable, checked the battery level, and seeing it had charged significantly, said, "Let's switch to another game and play together."

"Okay."

Yao Wei nodded.

So Lu Xi'an plugged the data cable back in, charged the controller a bit more, and pressed the console button, ejecting the disc and replacing it with "Cosmic Companion."

Once installed, he handed Yao Wei a controller, took the other, connected it to the data cable, adjusted for a while, and started playing together with Yao Wei.

This game focuses on two-player cooperation, with fantasy planets as the levels, visually stunning. The art style felt more comfortable than "Desolate Century."

Outside, the cold and frozen weather, yet they played all day.

When they finished, Yao Wei couldn't help but exclaim, "If only we had the abilities like in the game."

Various strange and unique abilities in the game could always create wonderful effects, making Yao Wei quite envious.

But Lu Xi'an replied, "Better not. You know, our abilities all come from strains. If we had abilities like those in the game, others might too.

"Think about it, even now with only four types of strains, we're having a hard time, and have to be cautious and creative in fights.

"If there were more abilities, each encounter would require us to guess what ability the person has and find a way to deal with it, which wouldn't be good for us."

Yao Wei thought about it and agreed, nodding, "You're right."

...

Another day passed, the snow stopped, and Yao Wei felt her period was approaching.

Lu Xi'an boiled water and cooked corn, eating the corn and filling the thermos with water, sharing the remaining water with Yao Wei.

Because it was cold and windy outside, they did all this in the shelter. After eating, they moved the fire to the fireplace, practiced martial arts, and got back into the car.

Another day passed, the weather warmed up, and Yao Wei's period arrived.

Lu Xi'an laughed and said, "Before we know it, we've been together for over two months; time really flies."

"Yes."

Yao Wei, full of spirit, nodded in response.

Ever since paying attention to water usage during her period, her mental state improved significantly during this time, Lu Xi'an guessed the Fungus Stone might have contributed to it.

Anyway, it precisely because of this improvement that Yao Wei said they could continue the journey without delay.

She was very aware of her physical condition.

But Lu Xi'an said slowing down a bit was fine, maintaining the best state was safest, and she agreed to pause.

The shelter turned from a practice room back to a place for rest and entertainment, until four days later, Yao Wei's period finished.

That day they prepared to set off, pulling the peg out, tidied up the rope, and stowed the aluminum door inside the shelter, not knowing who it was left for.

Lu Xi'an mused, "This might be the last time we come here, I wonder what it will be like in the future?"

Yao Wei said nothing, just stared quietly.

After a while, they packed their things and drove off.

First, they went to the Xijian River to refill their water supply, then to Xiaogang Village to check out the corn planted by Shu.

After days of growth, the corn seemed to have grown a bit bigger. Though not too obvious, careful observation could tell the difference.

They picked the corn of similar size, put them in the car, and drove east, following a small road until reaching a southern intersection.

Taking this turn would allow them to bypass Riverbed County to the road out.

Previously, when Yao Wei and Lu Xi'an escorted Chai Xin, they intended to directly follow the main road past Riverbed County, but the road broke beyond Xijian River. With no other option, they detoured to Xiaogang Village, where they met Shu.
