Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 162: A Sense of Déjà Vu (Part 2)

The wild boar was still rubbing furiously with a "huff huff huff huff," shaking the tree, completely forgetting itself, oblivious to the fact that someone was watching it from afar.

Lu Xi'an drew out a spoke, took aim at the wild boar, and suddenly hurled it.

"Whoosh——"

The sharp whistling sound pierced the air, and the flying spoke could only be heard, moving so fast that the human eye could not catch it.

Fortunately, Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei were not ordinary people.

Lu Xi'an's hidden weapon skills were so accurate that in Gu Long's worldview, he would be undoubtedly known as "Xiao Lu's Flying Needle, hitting without fail."

After that "whoosh," both Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei saw the spoke swiftly fly to the front of the wild boar, piercing through the top of its head, and then puncturing the leaves, leaving a small hole.

"Aoo!!!!"

The wild boar, which was happily donning its armor, let out a painful shriek, with blood spurting from its forehead.

To Lu Xi'an's surprise, despite the spoke penetrating its head, the boar didn't die and became instead extremely agitated, let out another "aoo," shook its head, found the location of Yao Wei's car, and charged towards it, roaring furiously.

Seeing it in such a state, it was clearly going berserk, intent on overturning the car with its head.

Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei couldn't allow it to crash, so Yao Wei immediately opened the car door, drew the bow and arrow, while Lu Xi'an leaped out of the car in one step.

"Be careful!"

Yao Wei reminded with a shout, fearing that Lu Xi'an might engage the boar head-on.

Although Lu Xi'an was a Type A Neo-Human, strong and immensely powerful, having previously punched such a tall and robust grizzly bear into the water, Yao Wei didn't want to see Lu Xi'an clash head-on with the wild boar.

After all, the wild boar seemed absurdly strong, with blood spraying from its head, yet still charging headlong.

Moreover, against the grizzly bear, Lu Xi'an had approached from the side and didn't engage in direct confrontation.

Yao Wei knew Lu Xi'an would win against the wild boar but was uncertain whether Lu Xi'an might get injured in the process.

In a post-apocalyptic environment, getting injured could be life-threatening, and she didn't want to see Lu Xi'an injured.

She then jumped out of the car to assist Lu Xi'an.

However, as soon as she jumped out, she saw Lu Xi'an pick up a stone from the ground and suddenly hurl it toward the wild boar.

"Bang!"

The wild boar charging headlong ran into the stone, its head exploded instantly, its body losing control and flipping twice in the air before crashing into the car's bumper, making the car sway twice.

Fortunately, the headless boar had already lost its momentum when it crashed into the car bumper, and the sturdy bumper of Yao Wei's car didn't sustain any damage.

Yao Wei heaved a sigh of relief and looked at Lu Xi'an, who smiled and said, "Relax, I wouldn't be so impulsive as to clash head-on with this boar. Even though I feel that even a head-on clash wouldn't be an issue.

"However, to deal with these tenacious large beasts, it seems we need a thicker hidden weapon, as Xiao Lu's Flying Needle is too thin and not ideal."

"Indeed."

Yao Wei nodded, said nothing more, and moved to the front of the car.

Lu Xi'an actually thought that Xiao Lu's Flying Needle wasn't ineffective, but he just needed a deeper understanding of biological structures to hit lethal points for maximum effect.

Otherwise, like the wild boar, even with a hole in its head, it still had the energy to counterattack before dying, which was problematic.

Yet, he didn't bother to discuss these thoughts with Yao Wei, deciding to summarize his experience and research more himself afterward, sparing Yao Wei the worry.

— He knew that if he told Yao Wei, she would definitely rack her brains to help him solve this problem.

This issue wasn't essential for him to solve, as he had other options like throwing large stones with great force, obviating the need for Yao Wei to expend mental energy unnecessarily.

As he saw Yao Wei walking to the car front, Lu Xi'an followed and noticed that the wild boar's body had already slipped to the ground, leaving blood on the car's front bumper, looking somewhat grim.

Yet, given the situation, Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei didn't mind.

Yao Wei took the mechanical dog out of the car, and Lu Xi'an instructed, "Gou, check if this boar is edible?"

Gou swept its canine eyes over the dead wild boar, and then its eyes shone brightly, indicating that the meat was edible.

Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei were exceedingly delighted.

Lu Xi'an marveled, "Finally, some edible meat! It's hard to believe we've found edible meat in Jianshan City!"

"Indeed!"

Yao Wei nodded affirmatively, feeling it was indeed quite difficult.

Previously, fish they caught and checked by Gou were inedible. The grizzly bear that sank to the river bottom also had tumors on it with symptoms similar to the fish in the water, suggesting it was inedible too.

Having reached here, it seemed they were finally out of the mysterious area's influence in Jianshan City.

Being able to eat the meat was truly joyful news!

The two of them bled the boar, hoisted it onto the car roof, and tied it with ropes.

After jumping down from the car, Yao Wei went to search for the spoke Lu Xi'an shot out, while Lu Xi'an went to inspect the boar's blasted head.

The head was utterly destroyed, with pig face, eyes, and nose scattered everywhere, impossible to collect, but fortunately, Lu Xi'an found two good things — pig ears.

The two ears hung on either side of the pig's head and, though flown out, were untouched by the explosion, one hanging on a tree, the other lying in distant weeds, both relatively intact.

Lu Xi'an picked up both pig ears and placed them back in the car.

In his past life, these delicacies were quite tasty, the tendons on the ears having a chewy texture after being cooked, almost as good as pig trotters.

Last time, although Yao Wei's roasted pork wasn't too remarkable, the pig ears were indeed the most flavorful part to chew. Naturally, he wouldn't miss out this time.

After securing the pig ears, Lu Xi'an saw Yao Wei returning, empty-handed.

"Couldn't find it."

Yao Wei told Lu Xi'an.

Lu Xi'an chuckled and said, "The spoke is too thin, and I shot it too far; finding it won't be easy. Let's not waste any more time looking. We have plenty of spokes, and as we saw earlier, using stones is evidently more effective."

"Alright."

Yao Wei, unable to do anything else, felt a bit regretful but could only agree with Lu Xi'an's view.

"Let's get in the car."

Lu Xi'an suggested.

"Okay."

Yao Wei replied and climbed into the front passenger seat, opening the door.

"See if you can spot a river; let's head to the riverbank, process this boar before setting off again, and prevent it from rotting."

After getting in the car, Lu Xi'an discussed with Yao Wei.

This boar was indeed heavy and large, occupying the whole car roof and pressing down their spare tire.

When Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei got back into the car, they both clearly felt the vehicle sink significantly under the extra weight, quite overweight.

So finding a place to process the wild boar, eating well once, and managing the leftovers for later was the best plan.

Yao Wei agreed with an "hmm," pulled out "World Map One" for a look, and said, "We'll come across Zhuoshi River near East Stone Store Village ahead, and we can go there."

"Alright."

Lu Xi'an responded, starting the car moving forward.

The rough road was riddled with potholes, making the drive extremely bumpy. With each bump, both Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei could distinctly feel the weight of the wild boar on the car roof, even worrying that the car might get crushed.

Overgrown weeds on the roadside incessantly scraped the sides of the car, making Lu Xi'an somewhat apprehensive, unsure if they might puncture the tires.

But thankfully, after a long drive, Lu Xi'an realized the tires were sufficiently sturdy or the wild grass not tough enough, as there were no issues with the tires.

Soon, as the sun reached its zenith, they arrived at Zhuoshi River to the west of East Stone Store Village, ready to process the wild boar meat.
